Britwell Salome Classic Car Run Raises £4,000 For Charity 21 Aug 2016 (News)
Thanks to the boundless energy of Chris Bidgood, the hospitality of his lovely wife Susie, the exceptional organisational ability of Leigh Greenham and the enthusiastic help of Chris Grainger, Geoff Wittaker, Kas, Bob, Trevor, Gill and Rem and everyone who showed up in their priceless classics, the 2016 Britwell Salome Classic and Interesting Cars Charity Run was a huge success. Altogether, £1,959 was raised from participants on the day with more to come, to be matched by a generous equal contribution from Santander Bank. The run took us on a country route to the Bicester Heritage centre where we enjoyed a conducted tour of the blossoming facilities that are rapidly turning the WW2 bomber station into a 'just in time' classic car restoration centre with all manner of specialist skills available on a single site. The charities supported by the run are Daisy's Dream , a Berkshire charity supporting children and their families who have been affected by the life threatening illness or bereavement of someone close to them; The Cystic Fibrosis Trust that invests more money into research of this life-limiting inherited condition than any other UK organisation; and Mission Motorsport that aids in the recovery and rehabilitation of those injured in military operations by providing opportunities apprenticeships and work through Motorsport. -
'Running in the Family' themed classic show coming in November 25 Jul 2011 (News)
The Footman James Classic Motor Show will take place from 11 th -13 th November with a ‘running in the family’ theme. The show is set to feature cars handed down from generation to generation, or from famous family run marques and race teams. Show manager Andy Rouse said: “One of the most common expressions you hear from our visitors when walking around the halls is ‘my Dad had one of those’ and this applies to every marque, from Reliants through to Rollers! -
The Futurecar Starts Here 6 Nov 2010 (News)
Today, 53 eco-friendly cars took off in a reverse of the RAC London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (which takes place tomorrow) to demonstrate their eco credentials. Sadly, the Honda Jazz hybrid scheduled to be driven by Honest John got held up in UK Customs, leaving no choice but to drive a CR-Z in the Futurecar run. -
Veterans turn back the clock for London to Brighton run 2 Nov 2017 (News)
As in previous years, BBC presenters Chris Evans and Alex Jones will be following the Run in a fleet of classic buses all carrying successful bidders who raised money for the BBC Children in Need charity. Due to on-going road works in Brixton, this year’s Run will take a slightly different route out of London. -
VOTE TODAY: TAX OR PUBLIC TRANSPORT 21 May 2002 (News)
Friends of the Earth is running a poll on whether we want increased spending on public transport or cuts in fuel tax. Currently the voting is running 30% increased spending and 70% cuts in tax. So, so far, it's been an honest vote. -
450 veterans set for London to Brighton run 13 Oct 2017 (News)

Although every car entered on what is the World’s longest running motoring event comes with a fascinating history, some are more special than others. The oldest vehicle on this year’s run is an 1893 Peugeot that was built a mere seven years after the world’s first car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, stuttered into life. -

Stars shine on London to Brighton run 3 Nov 2014 (News)
Olympic legend Sir Ben Ainslie lead home hundreds of veteran cars on this year’s London to Brighton run. More than 400 vehicles braved wet and blustery conditions on Sunday, November 2, to complete the run. The 118th run set out from Hyde Park at day break and headed 60-miles south through London and onto a stormy Sussex coast. -

Motoring advice says 'no quitting' 17 Dec 2009 (News)
Motoring advice from Norfolk Constabulary recommends that drivers avoid "quitting" in the run-up to Christmas. Quitting is the term applied to motorists who leave their vehicle when the engine is running - an offence that can result in police action being taken. However, the Constabulary notes that this is a "common winter weather routine" as drivers aim to defrost their car with the minimum of hassle. -

Internal Combustion engines are at their most efficient (far more efficient in converting energy to motion than electric motors) when they do a lot of miles. They are at their least efficient and least environmentally friendly on short runs, and especially short runs from cold that cause all sorts of problems. Worst are diesel engined cars with advanced emissions control systems such as particulate filters. Many people on the Disablilty Mobility allowance get themselves an Internal Combustion engined car and use it for very short runs of up to 1,000 - 2,000 miles a year. -

In 2008 the ‘new’ Georges Richard was driven by HRH The Duke of Kent who, following a short driving lesson around the Kensington Palace grounds, successfully reached the Seafront in Brighton. As well as being Sir Ray’s 50th start, the 2013 Veteran Car Run is also the 20th successive Run supported by his Tindle Newspaper Group – the business he set up after wartime service with the Devonshire Regiment after buying his first title – the Tooting & Balham Gazette – with his £250 demob payment. -
Goodwood Revival 2014 to keep Britain's motoring history on track 20 Aug 2014 (News)

Drivers told to cut out their own tax discs 2 Sep 2014 (News)
A DVLA spokesman said: “Tax discs can be expensive to produce and we have always planned to run down stocks in the run up to 1 October. “To make sure we deliver the best possible savings to the taxpayer we have not procured more stock for these last few weeks, and will instead print the remaining discs in house.” By abolishing the paper disc, the DVLA claims it will save more than £10 million each year, while making it easier for vehicle owners to tax or SORN a vehicle.
