  • Car failed it's test to become a taxi 2 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Thought it would be a quick glance over job and home.................. But no.................tester informed me that as car had no spare wheel he could not pass it.......... So that mean i have to get a galaxy spare , plus a jack, plus a wheel brace and return. Another round trip of 120 miles just so he can look in the luggage area at the wheel..............
  • VW Golf - Notice of intended prosecution - speeding 18 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I asked for a copy of the photographic evidence and within the picture there is one car in the inside lane slightly ahead of me plus there is another in the second picture which is just passing the camera. Would my detected speed be effected by there being two other moving cars in the photos?
  • Irish road toll (M50, Dublin) demands 29 Sep 2014 (Forum)
In July this year I visited Ireland in my u k reg audi. Today I have received a demand for an unpaid toll fee x2 totalling £5.16 plus STR penalties of £5.00. Total £10.16. From a company called EPC plc. I passed through no toll booths without paying. Is this a scam?
  • Bristol - Bristol Cars in administration 9 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Very sad to note that Bristol Cars has gone into administration this week. Another great name passes, but with new car construction down to less than 2 a month it was hardly a great surprise.  A real pity in my opinion, they at least dared to be different and the fact that most folks wouldn't have a clue what one was was a major plus to those who did.
  • Nissan X-Trail - MOT & service issues 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
On collecting the car was advised that after a test drive it was the opinion of the mechanic that the rear shocks were getting weak.  Of note, this did not appear on any paperwork as an advisory and the car passed the MOT perfectly OK.  Price quoted for two replacement shocks plus fitting was in the order of £650 which I though was quite steep.  Inspected the shocks, no oil leaking and passes the Q&D bounce test correctly.
  • Learner Driver 26 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Following hot on the heels of recent thread about 17 year old car owners....apart from Pass Plus in due course....have Backroomers any suggestions to make as to *who* to approach for lessons? Would you be recommending national schools such as BSM or AA...or would 'one-man-band' be preferable?
  • Disputed MOT 16 Nov 2003 (Forum)
My Galaxy failed its MOT yesterday at the local Ford main dealer ("significant braking effort recorded on all 4 road wheels even though brakes are not applied") - which I thought was a load of bull as I'd have noticed it in everyday use, plus the computer would have shown increasing fuel consumption. I tested it on an incline and it freewheeled as normal. I had it tested at another garage today and it passed with flying colours (plus it only cost £35 against the Ford dealer's £40.75 - isn't it a standard fee??).
  • 2006 VW Mk5 Golf Plus 1.9 TDI - Clutch Judder and White Smoke 3 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I have recently bought the above vehicle with 60k on the clock. Hot or cold the clutch judders I understand that this may be the flywheel at fault.If...
  • Bad driving LGV, report?? 8 May 2010 (Forum)
I slowly caught up a horsebox, so moved to lane 2, (on checking my mirrors I could see a lorry in lane 1 some way back which I'd passed before entering the 40mph area, plus another car in lane 3) Once past the horsebox I could have moved back into lane 1 but decided that I was gaining on a car ahead in lane 2 (I'm still at 40mph on cruise), plus I was about to start passing the on slip so there was the possibility of traffic wishing to join.
  • A big 'Thank You' from Gordon Brown 17 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Plus you've been able to kill some time queueing up; what with the telly being so rubbish these days.
  • free virtual beer! A new puzzle ;-) 22 Apr 2010 (Forum)
A single photograph will identfy the object in question and two of the clues below are in the photo. Most clues - plus identification wins. For decades `they` (in the generic sense) had their own way (and at at one time they had been many) - glorying in their achievements and the world was at their feet. The time came to pass however that the very test of their quality  became the noose that trapped them.
  • Where to find the retail price of a car when new 23 Feb 2025 (Forum)
Short of asking an owner or a dealer direct , where might I be able to discover ( for free) the actual retail price of a car when it was first registered? When buying second hand there’s plenty of info around re a vehicles history, MOT passes/fails/advisories , mileage etc plus of course the vehicles current value-but knowing what it cost BEFORE it left the showroom is for me a key piece of consumer data. All ideas welcome
  • LAND ROVER 25 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Regards Andy Bairsto Ps did anyone see the new EU directive on driving licences it is proposed and will get passed that anyone over 45 must sit a new wriiten exam every ten years plus medical. licences will only be valid for ten years .
  • One for the collective 26 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Local combined footpaths are signed as such and have a demarkation line, there are none on this plus its too narrow. Just ahead of me walking towards me at the time were a couple with a double buggy, it filled the pavement. The cyclist would have been unable to pass those pedestrians. So my question is what would have happened if the cyclist had been unfortunate (probably too mild a word) and have come off the pavement in front of a car or worse still a lorry.
  • Car insurance for newly qualified driver 11 Jun 2006 (Forum)
He is doing the 'Pass Plus' course in a few weeks which should also bring the insurance cost down a little. However, Direct Line say this will make no difference and he will have wait until he is 19 years old before he will be allowed on the insurance.
  • Anyone else been offered this? 18 Aug 2003 (Forum)
This is all free, and I get to go out in a nice Focus Ghia, all at Ford's expense. :-) Obviously I'm going to accept it, providing it isn't a pass plus certificate, which I already have. I feel that a free opportunity to brush up on some driving skills which may have started to slip after a couple of years at the wheel is too good to pass up!
  • Emissions, and stuff 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
If you've been reading recent posts, you might know that I've just taken the Golf TDi for it's MoT. It passed, but not quite just like that. The emissions were OTT. The advice was "change the air filter, put some Miller's Dieselclean Plus in the fuel, change the fuel filter and run it for 600 miles. No, I need an MoT certificate today, mate.
  • Fiesta MOT failure - repair costs 9 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Offside (front and rear), brake pipe excessively corroded. Centre exhaust split, needs welding. (passed emissions test)
  • Ford B max 1.4 zetec 2013 - Not starting 20 Oct 2023 (Forum)
No warning lights showing, but Garage "suspect" instrument cluster problem (apparently common) repair cost if unit sent off about £150 ish + vat plus labour to remove etc. Ford main dealer will obviously be more if a new instrument cluster. Other thoughts are ECU failure New ECU is abot £750 plus vat plus fitting, but all of the above depend on Ford dealer diagnostics.
  • Who gets the salvage money 26 Jul 2024 (Forum)
On gaining the assessors report… it stated the pre accident value of the car was £2000 My question is... has the accident management skimmed off the savage into their own pockets... IE should I receive: the assessment of the car (£2000) plus the salvage (£300) = £2300 OR the assessment of the car (£2000) minus the salvage (£300) = £1700 plus the salvage (£300) = £2000? To date I have not received all the payments owed to me but they have already sold the car on to a third party.
