  I am taking delivery soon of a Skoda Octavia with the 130bhp tdi pd diesel engine fitted. I have used Millers Diesel Power Plus for many years in my 11 year old Passat. Skoda discourage use of fuel additives on the basis that engines are designed with modern fuels in mind.

  I have seen 35% jet fuel in winter diesel blends and as jet fuel has less energy per litre than diesel, you get (slightly) lower mpg. Also you can see that (one of the many reasons) diesel cars go further on a litre is that there is more energy in a litre of diesel than a litre of gasoline (petrol).

  Well, I've had my welcome to the diesel world! Just bought an old diesel Peugot 309 and driving along a few days ago the 'water in fuel filter' light went on. Have done a little research and it seems this is a common diesel problem. I have several questions but please let me know if they're not appropriate for posting on this site - Could this indicate something more serious than poor quality diesel fuel (last filled up with Sainsbury's diesel, I think)?

  Just doing some research on bugs, apparently one of them can grow in Diesel forming a slime. Does anyone know if the fuel companies add anything to fuel to prevent bug growth? I recall someone on this site posting a question where they mentioned slime? in their fuel.

  Your recent articles suggest that this fuel lacks lubricity. I have a 1996 Mercedes E Class, 300 diesel, with 68,000 miles and which I hope to keep for a very long time. On one occasion you sugested using Shell Plura which may help the longivity of the fuel pump, but this fuel is not available in my area.

  Can anyone advise please. I have removed a Lucas diesel fuel injector pump - I have locked the engine at TDC as prescribed by the manual. I am puzzled by the pundits who suggest inserting 2 bolts through the fuel pump sprocket to 'lock the fuel pump in position' .

    Can anyone explain the funtion of the 4th connection on the diesel fuel filter on the 2013 model. There are two pipes, presumably fuel in and out, a posidrive screw for bleeding the air out and the connection I am enquiring about which is between these. It is an upturned pipe with a plastic cap on the end of it..

  Can anyone explain to me why diesel fuel is dearer than unleaded in UK. Diferential seems to be about 3p per litre. I work in Italy and have unleaded car there and diesel car in UK. Unfortunately the wrong way round. Lastt week Super unleaded cost 64 p per litre and diesel 56p per litre.

  I wonder if Diesel is going to stay closely priced to petrol for the forseeable, and is this related to differing sales volumes as the demonising of Diesel gathers pace...if the trend continues will the govt see a handy excuse to raise the fuel tax of demon fuel.

  After about 3 miles the car started running jerkily as if there was a fuel line issue. I parked up and left it. I've just added another 5 litres of diesel to make sure (so about 12 litres in total versus 3 miles of driving) and the fuel readout is still on zero and no fuel is getting through (engine eventually cut out after driving about 100 yards tonight.)

I checked out the fuel relay and fuse, the fuel filter and it seems that the fuel pump may be the culprit.   hi i have a 04 plate diesel zafira 20 ltr dti its in the main dealers today, i have been informed that it has got water in the fuel system and could need a new fuel pump and injectiors and a fuel filter, at my expence as they say its not a warrienty repair, has anyone had the same problems with a diesel please help many thanks trev
