  • Silver on black number plates 8 Aug 2007 (Forum)
They have been a mixed bunch - a few yoofs in their Corsas and Saxos, but also older people in very young Mercs, BMWs et al. Also tended to be silver or black paint to match the plates. Do they think that cameras etc won't pick them up, I wonder?! I can understand why they fit them from an asthetic point of view, but you would think that they are making themselves stand out a tad too much.
  • Parking at Harrods 15 Jul 2007 (Forum)
What is the deal on the street at the side where the entrance to the underground is? All these fancy Bentleys, BMWs etc, some with their Chauffeurs hanging about, all parked on, I assume , yellow lines, and not a single ticket in evidence! Do Harrods have a private agreement for this street? Me and my boy had loads of fun spotting Ferraris, Lambos etc but curious if anyone knows who owns the registration V POSH?
  • 320cd / 330cd convertible questions.... 7 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Should I replace any worn tyres with normal rather than run flats ? And how long roughly do tyres last ? Do BMW diesel engines sound as rough as other manufacturers engines (not been on a test drive) ? Any other information would be great, have been reading many threads over the last hour, but not my questions have been covered.
  • Garage 'forgot' to service car....! 30 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Folks, thought I would share with you my most surreal motoring day to date... 8.45am -- I take my 3 series BMW into a well known independent specialist for a few minor bits and pieces to be attended to (Air con re-gas, minor electrical gremlin, etc. etc.). Agree mid afternoon collection. 3pm (agreed time of collection).
  • Clocked motor 20 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Lady who works with me flew down with her other half from Edinburgh to Luton at the weekend to pick up what appeared to be a tidy BMW 320d series tourer with 48k on the clock. However when they got home on Sunday after driving back from Luton to Edinburgh they did an HPI check and found out that the car had done 147k. They managed to stop the bankers draft so no money actually exchanged hands.
  • Citroen Dispatch Blower fan 1 Nov 2006 (Forum)
there appears to be a few blower fan issues on the net regarding the car versions (i.e, Synergie, 806 etc), and blower fans for sale, but I dont want to start taking the dash apart if there is an easy test. Cheers..... -- Neil T E90 BMW 320d M Sport, E91 330d SE Touring
  • What would you buy if...... 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I'd put on my shortlist: Toyota Yaris 1.3 like my daughter's - it goes like a bomb Skoda Fabia Combi 1.4 petrol or 1.9 diesel if I needed more room Honda Jazz but probably go for a VW Golf 1.4 TSi or 2.0 TDI 170. I'd look at a BMW 120d - not sure if I'd like it. Not a Mini, much as we love SWMBO's, as despite only being a Mini One, it uses more petrol than her previous 2-litre Honda Civic. Not a Prius unless I drove mainly in towns - a diesel makes more sense if you go out more.
  • Driving in the 90s and 100s 20 Oct 2006 (Forum)
and returns to house to collect it. She was later filmed driving off from the hairdressers with her walking stick on the roof of her BMW and being stopped by a lady to return it . I am all for keeping old folks mobile but surely we should have some sort of more stringent test 's for the over 80's and not leave it to purely to them to decide when it is time to give up.
  • excessive wear on tyres 5 Oct 2006 (Forum)
i mentioned to one of my neighbours 10 - 11 months ago, that she had a couple of Dunlop Kojaks on the back of her car ( 1994 ish BMW 320 coupe auto)......as one of them was down to the canvas......and being rear wheel drive i thought she might have an 'interesting moment' on a wet roundabout. within the week she had replaced all four.........didn't bother looking at the make, but flash alloy wheels and low profiles.
  • Just got a mini cooper - what to watch? 24 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Anyway is there anything specific I should be keeping an eye out for in terms of problems and what is the best way to ensure it lasts for quite some time. Currently done 44K and BMW are looking after the servicing free until either 2011 or 80,000 miles. Must admit I have never been impressed with them, however after 5 minutes of driving one I think I wanted her to get it more than she did.
  • Cars appearance and MOTs 6 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I ask because I bought an apparently sound Sierra estate years ago which looked exceptional for its age, yet underneath, i discovered that the garage that had MOT'd it had missed a section of the chassis with a 2x3 hole in it. The MOT station was a BMW main dealer...
  • large diesel estate - XM? 25 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I am bored rigid with my v70 'classic' (aka old model) tdi. I keep looking around to see what large diesle estates are about but there isnt much choice. bmw 5 series is too small. passat/a6 are OK, but we've had several audi, merc E-class is expensive plus the rust and diesel reliability put me off. Anyway, I have been thinking about an XM, would I be mad?

    Further to earlier threads, both 94 & 109bhp versions have an IC, unlike the 90bhp HDi Xantia/406. -- Neil T E90 BMW 320d M Sport, E91 330d SE Touring
  • 330 Diesel - "drumming noise" 1 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Its not loud - but audible and bordering on the irritating. The noise gets quicker the faster you go. Spoke to BMW - suggested getting tyres checked out - which I did - all ok - and had the fronts & rears swapped over. Seemed a little better for a few days but is now back as before. If it helps - the fronts have done 10k and are Michelins (were the rears which were replaced @ 30k), the rears are the original fronts and are Conti's and have done the full 42k.
  • Winning the fight over some big bills 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Two interesting cases on the back of the July Which? magazine today: * BMW owner faced with warranty company's refusal to meet more than 20% of a claim for £5000 to repair extensive engine failure caused either by a failed water pump or a blown head gasket, or both; the refusal was based on blaming only the water pump and having no responsibility for other damage.
  • Mercedes Benz - C-Class: Pulling Left 6 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have read reports about many cars doing this - the new Fiesta Zetec Flame and the Mondeo Ghia do no pull to the left to an extent where you notice it with hands on the steering wheel - also the steering is point straight. The BMW 5 series that we recently sold drove straight as well. reason we bought the MB - was going to buy the C-max auto - but build problems/cvt, etc - so went for the MB Any views!! Thanks Lucian

  • Audi A4 1.6 unable to fill tank past 3/4 11 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi there, I've just purchased an Audi A4 1.6 on an N, and I can't fill the tank past the 3/4 level with a standard unleaded fuel nozzle from any petrol station. A mate with a BMW 330i said it happens to his, but all he does is wait for a minute and then he can fill it to the brim. Whenever the "valve" pops out, i push it it, and i've waited for at least a minute, then I can only put another litre in and then so on.
