Replacement Car 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Hi all A few months ago, I posted regarding buying a second to car to use for the daily commute (33 miles each way). I looked at getting a citroen xantia, but I couldn't get the numbers to add up as the insurance would have been more than I would have saved in fuel. My place of work is shortly to be moved even further away. I will, however, qualify for excess milage which should give me around £1500 for a two year period. -
Happy Christmas from me too. 25 Dec 2001 (Forum)
*Feel even more disappointed when realising this was the only Black Shadow made with the gyro perpetual motion engine. *Find comradeship in those willing to stand up and admit "I own a Citroen Xantia and I like it". *Take pleasure in seeing "Micky Huh Huh" post so much anti-Xantia stuff that they devalued enough that we now can look at buying a second. Thanks Micky, I wonder where/who you are now? -
Cars with soul 21 Apr 2020 (Forum)
None left so buying one today will cost the Crown Jewels but I had an irrational love for small hot hatches and these were actually very good. Citroen AX GT - Made from recycled bog roll but so light that 85bhp felt terrifyingly quick. Actually not that fragile despite the initial feel but you did fear that every twitch of the right pedal would end in a call to the scrappy. -

Low budget, cheap to run, 90s car wanted! 18 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Here's a few things you should know about me: I am a big fan of older cars particularly, and I've been influenced by my dad who had a Vauxhall Cavalier and a Citroen AX, and in my teen years me mate's older brother had a brilliant Nova. Basically call me an enthusiast of older cars. Secondly, my standards are incredibly low for a young person. I'm looking to buy a fun used car that is both cheap to buy and cheap to run, preferably dating 1990s. -
Help choosing the right car please 27 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I find the golf as bland looking now. Are the cheaper brand of cars more reliable now such as Peugeot 308, Citroen cactus, Hyundai i30 and Astra? I could get a newer car with my money with those types, but would they cost me more over the 3 years in running costs? Sorry I'm rambling now if you have managed to finish my post any help would be greatly appreciated. -
Renault scenic rx4 - Faulty car- want to return it 4 Aug 2014 (Forum)
By the time I got back home the ad that I replied to and saved in my watch list had changed to a Citroen Picasso with almost the exact same wording in the advert. I have a copy of the original on my other computer which I will print off. He also claimed that they had gone over the car and checked it and that it had been checkedto multi point checklist by the dealers who took it in part exchange, he claimed that they would not take it in part exchange if it did not pass the checklist, you would think that 2 lots of professional car dealers might have noticed something like a missing propshaft. -
First Time Buyer Need Advice 9 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Also the car MUST have an AUTOMATIC transmission, not manual or robotic manual (like the Honda Jazz II) otherwise the wife cannot legally drive it in France. I have only driven two cars myself a Volvo 240GS Stationwagon (manual) and currently a Citroen C3 at the auto school. I keep hearing bad things about the realibilty of French cars (mostly from the French) so I would prefer something thats not likely to leave me stranded in the middle of the highway. -
Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006 - ) - Cold Start / Glowplugs 9 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Two questions:- To other Freelander 2 owners, how cold does it have to be before there is a delay while the glowplugs do their stuff? To other users who have this 2.2 engine in other vehicles (Peugeot 4007 and 407, Citroen C-Crosser and various C5s and C6s, Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2, Ford S-Max and Mondeo etc.), which may have more conventional ignition keys, do the glowplugs on your car activate in cold temperatures and does the engine start OK if you ignore the glowplug warning light? -
Main dealer rip off. Can you better this? 7 May 2009 (Forum)
I expect Ford would say ah but we would have recoded all keys or you were given false information. My nephew noticed both rear light bulbs on his Citroen van had stopped working, he told the main dealer he thought he must have an electrical fault. When he went to collect the van he was told it just needed two new bulbs so that will be £300!( he said he thought it had a fault only because both bulbs blew at the same time. -
Auction bargains - No V5 21 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I've bought at auction a number of times ( 5 times in 25 years ? ) including my first ever car, a Citroen GS X2 in 1984ish, and my current car, a 51 Focus 1.6 Zetec that I bought for 7500 in Mar 2003. I'm no expert, but have always picked up a decent motor for sensible money. I had a 'window shopping' look at BCA Newcastle yesterday, and saw some good bargains, but sorry didn't take notes for a detailed report. -
What to buy 19 Dec 2007 (Forum)
My budget is £12k, though I'd rather spend £10k and although I'll almost certainly buy from a main dealer, I don't mind private if I can buy a warranty from the manufacturer. (Is this ever done...?) No no's? Renault or Citroen and anything with a normal boot. So there you go. Cheers -
Executive diesel automatic saloon 9 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Audi A4 1.9tdi auto - Too new to fit into my £12k budget Audi A6 1.9tdi auto - Seriously considering but what is the gearbox? Regular tiptronic auto (=mpg killer) or multitronic (=very efficient)? Ford, Renault, Citroen, Peugeot. Worried about putting £12k into any of these due to depreciation. VW 1.9tdi auto. Not very efficient gearbox. Merc 220cdi auto. Nice gearbox but drove one and think the interior is rubbish for the money. -
Xsara 1.4i Forte - Power Loss 7 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi, A friend of mine has just bought a '99 V Citroen Xsara 1.4i Forte with (I think) 68,000 miles on it. He collected the car on Saturday (with a 1 year warranty) from deleted . This is his first car. I received the following email this morning. -
Pug 406 V6 Wierd Oil Pressure Problem 9 May 2005 (Forum)
The engine in question is the 3.0 V6 lump (ES9J4) fitted in this instance to a Peugeot 406 but also used in some Citroens and (I believe) Renaults. It has developed a problem of late whereby it has no oil pressure upon starting. It's been in the garage several times and diagnosed variously as a dented sump fouling the strainer (dent removed worked OK for a week), clogged strainer (strainer removed cleaned refitted worked OK for 2 days). -
Glow plugs - application sheets 5 May 2005 (Forum)
The Citroen BX 17 turbo has become increasingly difficult to start at lower temperatures and I have done considerable internet reseach on the different makers glow plug application charts and "equivalent items". -
which fuel (petrol) 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
It was just about tolerable (to me, but maybe not to many people), but still not cured, when fitted with the expensive 3-prong sparkplugs this model was supposed to have. My next car was a Citroen AX, and curiously, that developed a pretty identical misfire. If you changed the plugs, it'd be ok for a week or so and then the problem would creep back. I ended up having it tested on a rolling-road setup. -
2500km in a Citroen Xantia 17 Feb 2002 (Forum)
When on my own, it was good, but wasn?t the ?startlingly good? that I remember from driving older Citroens years ago. Maybe that simply means other cars are catching up. Slightly disconcerting sometimes in traffic, when the car seems to take the idea into its head to briefly raise or lower by an inch or so. ? -
