  I don't specifically want to buy a diesel but most of the ex fleet cars at auction are diesels so I limit my choice if I avoid them. If I buy a deisel I wish to aviod the hassel of a dpf. I shall be looking for a focus or astra size car. I am told that the 110bhp focus has a dpf but not the 90bhp but I don't know up to what date that changed. Can anyone tell me of any other  diesel of around that age and size which does not have a dpf or one where if you have problems with it you can comfortably throw the dpf away and still pass an MOT.

  It is now beginning to have a rumbling gearbox, but it has always had a tendency to have a stutter on the power delivery, and tends to lose power slightly intermittently (as if the brakes have been lightly applied), and fuel consumption has gradually dropped.   If you are thinking of buying a Mondeo diesel for its fuel economy, think again. I have just bought a new 2.0 TDCi Titanium X Estate fitted with a DPF, which will not achieve more than upper 30's mpg. The DPF has had an effect on fuel economy, so if you want a Mondeo IV diesel to get more MPG, at the moment it is best to go for the 1.8 TDCi which does not have the DPF as standard.
