Parts and paint - Cost of car repairs 23 Dec 2020 (Forum)
insurance companies are getting wise to this and raising premiums accordingly. A small dent on a door often requires the whole side of car to be painted costing around £1000 if the car is to be retailed. Another example I saw is an Five week old A5 hit in a car park damaging the headlight. Repair costs £2500. So the insurance route was taken. -

Hi - has anyone else had problems with their Citroen cars catching fire?? We had a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 07 reg vehicle (car was 6months old when we purchased it) - still under manufacturers warranty that caught fire just after myself, my partner and our two children had just got out of the car. -
Car hire abroad 4 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Holiday booked for October half term in Polenca, Majorca for four adults and a five yr old. We're considering renting a car for the week but not sure if it's worth it; would we be better getting a transfer to/from Palma airport and taxi-ing it about or renting a (big) car for the week? -
Small car with 6 speed box reccomendations 9 May 2016 (Forum)
My budget is max £4,000 so the car would need to be 8-6 years old obviously. Currently I'm looking at the 08' fiesta but they only have 5 gears? Does it matter that much though? Thanks for any advice -
A look back in time 7 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Lots of articles on engine tuning, ads for all kinds of parts and accessories. A guide to used cars lists top speed, mpg, replacement cost of engines, (typically £50 to 70 for UK cars, but £540 for Mercedes!), gearboxes, tyres, brake parts etc. I used to buy the magazine regularly in those days, running old cars it was often helpful. -
Cancelling lease car contract before it starts 14 Jan 2016 (Forum)
My current car is very old and in dire need of replacing, I thought it would be better to lease a car instead and re-evaluate in a few years to see if I were better of buying. So I got a good deal through Lings but now I have been made redundant. -
Car Buying advice 16 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I'm hoping to get some advice and recommendations as feeling completely lost as to which car to choose. I sold my old beloved 01 plate Renault Scenic around 9 months ago. After toying with idea of a berlingo type car I eventually ended up with a Ford C-Max. Unfortunately I've ended up with a dog of a car that's given me nothing but trouble, and that I don't really like the look or feel of. -
Unemployed and Insurance 31 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I kind of understand why the insurance would go up while unemployed for people with expensive cars and car loans, but the car is 9 years old now, I have owned it for 6 years. -

Any Make - Self Drive Cars 15 May 2012 (Forum)
The latest Buzz is about cars that drive themselves, a topic that surfaces every several years when a manufacturer shows a train of cars driving in a line and that they follow each other keeping apart no matter what speed changes occur. -
Any vehicle - crawling approach to Traffic lights on Red 4 Mar 2012 (Forum)
One of the most infuriating habits of Drivers these days is crawling to Traffic lights that are on Red.You know the ones who leave massive gaps and crawl at 1 mile per hour. The reason for this moan is I have a 2 year old car that is fitted with "stop start" technology as are many new cars, the benefit is in the title, if you stop the car the engine turns off therefore saving fuel, however, this is not possible if you are crawling to the lights as the car doesn't actually get a chance to stop, I actually tried stopping once and watched the crawling gap in front of me get larger and larger resulting in the cars behind beeping their horns in anger, so please, close the gap as quickly as possible to allow other motorists the opportunity to save the Planet. -
SEAT Alhambra 2.0TDI PD 140Reference - 2.0Tdi PD 140 fails at 47000 miles 19 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I bought the car 10 months after first registration by Seat UK with zero miles on the clock. the car would officially be 4 years old in Feb 2012, so technically I have driven the car from zero miles within 3 years. -
Who was breaking the law here? 28 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I heard about a rather disturbing motoring in incident in town the other day. A car was parked on a steep hill in a shopping street, and there were 4 children in it. A motorist drew up behind the parked car, which was blocking his way. The man got out of the car and told the oldest of the 4 children, who was about 12 years old, to let the handbrake off the car so it would roll forward out of his way - still with 4 children in it. -
Astra 2001 - MOT time "crooks" but no names 23 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Got a friend who is not very knowledgable on cars and runs an old astra, but maintains it as required. Not sure though if it would pass the mot due to age/wear related items, but booked discounted mot online , took car in and yes, it failed with £400 to put right. -
Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 2007 - Car batteries 25 May 2011 (Forum)
I have just bought a March 2007 Corsa 1.2 petrol "Life". The battery on this car is an RAC 1OO which I have never heard of. It says on the side of the casing that is a Serial number YB1047580. My last car was a 1999 1.2 Corsa and that had the original Vauxhall battery . Why would a 4 year old car need a new battery? -
washing your car? 13 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Do you wash your car or get someone else to? Up here in leeds there just seems to be a car wash everywhere on old petrol station forecourts. The queue is massive at £5.00 for a car standard wash spray some detergent on the wheels, bumper, lights, then moves onto the guy with pressure washer & sponge, then to drying off. -
Warranty via a cold telephone call... 15 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I just wonder if anyone else has received a cold telephone call from a firm offering a car warranty ? this for a seven-year old car. A chap called earlier this evening, went through a load of spiel, told me he would send some information, then expected me to agree to a direct debit mandate. -
Help me spend some money on eBay 9 May 2008 (Forum)
- and things like mileage. In fact, nothing to help someone browsing for an old car. I've already given up on eBay cars because since they animated the first search page it doesn't work for me at all. Does this mean I now can't look at eBay classic cars either? Or am I missing something simple? -
Import car to USA 31 Mar 2008 (Forum)
As an aside, I met a guy who was over here working on secondment. He actually imported his British car and drove it around with no problem on UK license plates for the six months he was here, and then shipped it back. He said it was cheaper and easier than renting a car for six months or having to buy and sell a car here. -
Mondeo for Mrs Lawman? 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Who can help pick a car for Mrs Lawman? Her current car (a 10 year old primera) has been sent to its maker, thanks to a blind pensioner in a Micra who drove into the back of her on Wednesday. She and the kids are shaken but unhurt, thank goodness.
