  • Driving the Amalfi Coast and Naples 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
A kilometre further on, you invariably catch up with it, bottled up behind a slow lorry. If you think that’s hair-raising, try driving in Naples. “Should you decide to travel into Naples by car,” says the guide book, “be prepared for highly stressful driving, heavy traffic and parking problems.” It repeats, “Driving in Naples is highly stressful.” I drove across Naples one day last week in the evening rush-hour.
  • New car shortlist - who's going to help? 19 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Whi can tell what the weather is doing? Ford C-MAX - fun to drive - nice high driving position and lots of room in the back - but Fords don't hold their value well and I may not find the PCP deal very good. Mondeo sounds good but we don't need somethiong quite as big as that.
  • Toyota Auris - Honda Civic - Civic 1.8 VTEC 9th Gen (2012) vs Auris 1.6 VMATIC (2013) 13 Oct 2017 (Forum)
As some of the regulars here will know, I had after a lot of research and deliberation, decided to buy a Civic. Previously, I had taken a test drive on a 2009 1.4 VTEC Type- S Civic. The driving experience on that car was quite good. It seemed very grippy. Also the rear spolier appeared as a thin line in the rear view mirror, and didn't seem to obstruct visibility much.
  • Motoring myths 13 Oct 2005 (Forum)
This is of course wrong; your licence would be endorsed regardless, and failure to pay a fine can lead to more serious trouble. 5. You can outrun a speed camera In theory, you could outrun a speed camera by driving at more than 172mph. However, few cars are capable of such speeds and anyone daft enough to try deserves to lose their licence. 6. You can't get in trouble for driving too slowly Not true. A number of people have been stopped and charged for driving too slowly.
  • Mazda CX-30 - Anything better than CX-30 in the same price rang? 29 Jun 2024 (Forum)
Hi All, I'm looking for small SUV/Crossover with Automatic gearbox under £16 000, mainly city driving, short trips, up to 5000 miles a year. Would like to keep the car as long as possible (like 10 years or so). Requirements in order: 1. comfort, 2. reliability, 3.running cost, 4. car price Have been already seen and test drive Pegout 2008,  Vauxhall Mokka, Mazda CX-30.
  • Skoda Superb - Cancelling new car order. 12 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I was told that the kangerooing issue had been solved by a software update last year. I then mentioned that I wasn’t happy about test driving the 2 litre when I asked to test drive the 1.5. He claimed that I did test drive one but I know the car and it was even still on the forecourt! Last week I went in to clarify an issue where’s I had been given the wrong monthly price.
  • Volkswagen polo 1.4tdi 2007 - Weirdest complex problem (VW POLO) 10 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I am forced to stop my car to the side of the road which is really dangerous especially driving on third gear or more.. When I turn ignition off I am able to drive without issues, back on the road and the abs and engine light disappeared after turning it off and on. Whats been done so far: Took it to a local garage they replaced the accelerator pedal which they said needed replacing as shown on their diagnostic tools and the fuel filter was changed just in case.
  • Two 'lanes' into one...? Nearly an accident...! 5 Feb 2016 (Forum)
On their part, merging without indicating and to nearly deliberatly cause an accident because they are annoyed was possibly one of the worst pieces of driving I have ever seen (thereby why i had to get out the car). So, my question is - how is this section of road to be treated? If i am wrong, i will put my hands up and say, absolutely. What i will say is i drive efficently, i do not hesitate, i value safety, and i always pay attention - my driving record should ahow this i.e. 15 years, no accidents, no speeding tickets, nothing.
  • Lexus, Toyota, GM, others - Hybrids - good to drive? how about 2nd hand 24 Jan 2014 (Forum)
It can and it should be done for a premium brand. I would like to find something that will seat 4, and be fun to drive, Honda CR-Z won't seat 4, and the "fun to drive" bit may be hard. Ideally I would like something that has been around a couple of years so I can look for a 2nd hand one at dealers, but when I did look at the 400h (and before deciding it was too big for me), I also learnt that most used car warranty schemes do not cover the electric power train of a hybrid (such as batteries).
  • Peugeot 206 - Peugeot 2.0 HDI Naughtyness 21 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Got it back to my house and after more faffing about he sprayed some easy start in the intake and asked me to turn the engine over and it did for about a second....5 litres of diesel in the tank and the poxy thing started with no problems other than a flattened battery from attempting to crank it over several times by myself and him. However- driving it now it's sluggish, more so in first and second gear(it feels like there is no boost going on) and you feel like your not moving at all sometimes, but once you get it going to can drive along a flat bit of motorway at 70 fine(adding more speed seems to take much longer than usual when driving at speed as I've noticed) The last 2 days it had illuminated the engine management light and also beeped anti pollution fault on the central display whilst driving it along or from initial startup-this does not happen anymore for some strange reason, I did crap myself when this first happened as it had done this before and cut out, this is not the case now as I have since to see the light appear!!
  • Renault 2.2dT - Glow Plug Change 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The service instructions clearly say to remove the manifold. Why?" "Bet you can get them out no probs if we had a 1/4 inch drive UJ" says I. So, we sourced a 1/4 inch UJ from Halfords Professional range (£3.99). We already had everything else we needed. The inlet manifold has access between the inlet runs to each plug - couldn't get in there with 3/8 drive sockets.
  • Lexus 460 - what connects the steering 27 Apr 2019 (Forum)
No accidents have been reported relating to this issue and we have received no reported cases of this concern in the UK market. VGRS is a feature that enables easier handling during low-speed driving and provides better stability during high-speed driving than conventional steering by changing the gear ratio. The problem occurs at low speed when manoeuvring the steering wheel to full lock position.
  • 2014 2.0 TDI Passat - Stalling engine on 2.0 Passat TDI 17 Dec 2017 (Forum)
As a potential fix, they upgraded the software to the latest version (I already have the infamous TDI fix already installed) and drive about 60 KM across two days without noticing the problem. In my first drive since picking the car up, the stall happened, albeit mildly, after some 5 KM of driving.  On discussing with the dealership, they stated that this type of problem (without failure codes) will be hard to diagnose.
  • test car variability 28 Dec 2013 (Forum)
The ride felt surprisingly different the second time. On the first test drive the car was somewhat bumpy at lower speeds but settled quickly once 30mph was reached, and at motorway speeds the ride quality was pretty good being both smooth and comfortable. On the second occasion, driving on a different route, the ride was rough, and it did not seem to improve at higher speeds (as it had done previously) leaving me painfully aware of all the imperfections on the tarmac.
  • Skoda Roomster Se TSI 86bp - The first new car purchase 16 Jun 2013 (Forum)
We then went to the local Maidstone Skoda Daler and they led us have the Roomster S with theTSI 86 bp engine for the morning to road test so we were able to drive it on motorway, A roads and minor country roads. I was an experience, lovely car to drive. It has reasonable acceleration we got to 80 mph without knowing it on the motorway, great visability all round as you are seated higher than a normal car and a great experience.
  • any - driving in China 25 Feb 2013 (Forum)
All cars , including MB ML,  Landcruisers , Q7,  S class , X5 ,  running on unleaded at about 80p  a litre   ( no cars ran on diesel at all )   Driving standards are bad.  Nobody ever lets anybody out and nobody slows for pedestrians , these can wait 5 mins at marked crossings and then make a run for it   Electric scooters drive on pavements at night with their lights off .
  • Drink Driving, probable outcome 24 May 2012 (Forum)
I completely regret taking the decison to drive even though it was in order to prevent my Brother from driving (which is no excuse as it was MY decison). I am interested in finding out what the probable outcome will be and will offer further details: I am 19 Have no previous criminal or motoring offences (not so much as a parking ticket!).

  • Hyundai Coupe (2002 - 2008) - SIII 2.0 brief drive 21 May 2009 (Forum)
It does seem very good value too - £12995 for a 2000 mile demo car on an 09 plate - I suspect mum may actually be tempted by this - she is driving it on a 70 mile round trip this evening, so it will be interesting to hear what she thinks, but she was grinning like a child when I dropped it off to her. I was rather smitten myself.
  • Mitsubishi L200 pickups (2000 - 2006) - How to replace a pickup? 23 Oct 2007 (Forum)
It hardly gets a chance to warm up in the morning, and the parking headache in the city multi-stories is driving me insane. After some consideration, my brief has to consist of the following: Comfy drive - I want to be cosseted, the jarring drive of the pickup over all these poorly repaired town roads has made me want to spend my next year and a bit in a quiet, smooth riding cocoon.
