Lorry wheels in the air 8 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I patiently started to explain that they can be engaged or dis-engaged, and that they are engaged when the lorry is loaded to give better grip & traction. I've convinced myself (and Mrs S) that that is the reason, but is it, really? -
The Bear Trap 11 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Having read Fernblatt`s very interesting website "The Oil Bible", I was wondering if any of the B.R`s have used the re-usable magnetic collar called "The Bear Trap", that is fitted to the outside of the standard through-flow engine oil filter, to remove fine metallic particles. -
Citroen C5 rear axle problems 15 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My 2 year old C5 1.9 HDI Hatchback has uneven wear on the rear tyres. they are ok on the outside but down to 1.6 mm on the inside. My franchise garage says that this is caused by deformed rear axle(s) and is a known problem, they have asked Citroen to approve replacement of the axle(s) under warranty and also for Citroen to cover the cost of 2 new tyres. Does anyone know about this problem ? CITMAD -
Land Rover Discovery - Your opinion 7 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Just seen an ad for a Discovery V8, 3-door, 1990, 5-speed, 110K. I\'ve read they can be a bag of nails & nothing but problems. If it\'s got this far, it can\'t be that bad. It also has a gas conversion. Any coments, experiences (good or bad!)would be welcome. I\'ve also read HJ\'s breakdown. All for £3000. Too much, too little? -
Fun Driving 26 Aug 2003 (Forum)
OK, I\'m as guilty as the rest when it comes to whingeing about the state of the roads, speed cameras, traffic calming (ha!), etc, etc, etc & there\'s no water in the taps, no water in the pool & only a pink fluffy diced lizard in the bidet! But there\'s still loads of fun to be had out there. Just been camping near Edinburgh. Get off the main routes & you\'ll find miles of traffic free roads to enjoy. -

Peugeot rear suspension 23 Jun 2003 (Forum)
ve recently noticed that my 306 xsi's rear suspension is not level. The Drivers side is about an inch lower than the n/s. It's constantly like this, but the car feels fine when pushing down on each corner ( falls and rises smoothly ) It?s a '94 with 97000 on clock. I've read that it might be the axle bearings, but no real idea. -
Sharan brakes 4 Mar 2003 (Forum)
My 1998 Sharan has an annoying hissing noise coming from the brake pedal for the last couple of years. It?s present most of the time but not all the time. A slight depression of the pedal stops the hissing. Braking is not affected and the car has just passed it?s MOT. The noise comes from very close to the pedal and is obviously something to do with the servo vacuum. -
323 or 328? 7 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Plus the insurance on a 328 is about £100 more. I'd appreciate comments from anyone but in particular owners of 323's or 328's. Cheers Jamie -

Used BMW 523i 3 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Am thinking about buying a S/H BMW 523i. It was imported from Holland, 97R, one (known) company owner, FBMWSH, ~35K, leather, no crunches, and I believe it's a clean car. 1) What would be a fair value for it (does anyone know a good site for imported s/h values?) -
205 GTI 29 Dec 2000 (Forum)
My 205 GTI runs really eratically on tickover, I understand that this is caused by the fly wheel which on the 1.6's is actually too small, and this worsens as the car ages, Peugeot corrected this problem on the 1.9's with a larger fly wheel. The only thing I have heard of to smooth out tickover is an ecotec valve, which I can get hold of, but is there nothing else to be done? -
Musings on Sat Nav/phones + Google/Nokia maps. 7 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Google needs no expanation, it`s so well known, but it`s mapping needs data downloads as you drive along and one wonders at this point whether it`s seemingly class leading solution is not ahead of the infrastructure of the UK cellular networks capacity - or perhaps even pockets - requiring data plans (.Also seemingly not on S60 here) It`s perhaps less well known that mobile phone company Nokia, bought Sat Nav software manufacturer - Navteq a while back and was offering it on some of their phones free - but charging for voice guidance. -
