Respray Quality 15 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi, Someone has keyed the side of my car and it will need filling (in places) and respraying. I want to get this done properly so it looks like new (like the rest of the car does). My old runabout had the bonnet and wing resprayed some years before I bought it, and over the years the resprayed pannels have faded, matted and discoloured. -
Student looking for first car... 7 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi, This is my first post so i apologise if this is a much-discussed topic previously. i have also e-mailed Honest John himself but thought it would be interesting to hear other folks advice/experiences. I am a 22 year old med student at Glasgow uni. I have had my license 4 years now but haven't done much driving (on parents insurance, hence no NCB record). I am looking for a small modern car, either nearly new or brand new. -
Ford Zetec models. 2 Jul 2003 (Forum)
To any Mondeo experts out there, do the late mondeo 2ltr ( around 99 model year on) have very slightly different engines than the early cars? My old What car magasines suggest a change from a 128bhp to a 136bhp engine. This might explain why hj's car gives up to 40 mpg and the 2ltr 97R mondeo i had didnt. The focus according to what car stats has only ever had the 128bhp engine. -
Removing Swirls on Paintwork 28 May 2003 (Forum)
Some areas look as though they have been rubbed down with sandpaper and the paintwork has lost it's shine. In normal light it looks great. It's obviously been in a car wash every week for 3.5 years since new. Question is, how do I clear the swirls? Is a good old T-Cut and wax the best method? Or is there a particular product I could use? The car is black and non-metallic. -
Focus not so good 6 May 2003 (Forum)
My company recently updated our Focus fleet cars to new Regs. I used to drive a (Y Reg) TD Focus Zetec but have now been given a TD LX (02 Reg) instead. The difference is truly amazing. My old car was great, drove like a demon and handled like a dream. -

Skoda Octavia vRS - Help me decide which car to get next year. 16 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Hi Guys, long time reader of this website but I dont think Ive posted on here before. Anyway I'm saving up for a new car, well trying as I seem to keep having to spend money on what I currently have. It is after all a 16 year old car. My current car is a Skoda Octavia VRS converted to run on LPG. So I'm looking for something similar, I do roughly 10,000 miles a year and do quite a few short journeys so I would guess this rules out diesels? -
Upto £8k for a new'ish car 28 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Currently I’m driving around a 10yo Vauxhall Agila 1.0l which is leaking all over my dad’s drive way and is not exactly a decent car but if it were not leaking it would probably be sticking around until it completely falls to bits. I’m a 19 year old male so Insurance is something I have to keep an eye on although I do have 2 years no claims from having my own insurance on a provisional license. -
2011 Peugeot 107 2 door - Advice selling a car 11 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Any advice on how to sell my car privately and accept payment would be appreciated. In the past I have simply driven my cars to auction or sold them to friends but I am a bit reluctant to part with this car as it has been obsessively maintained so I intend sticking out for a top price. -
Automatic car with EPB advice please 8 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Ideally it needs to be ULEZ compliant too. My budget is up to £8k and I'd like a car less than six years old. I've been searching online but have found it impossible to filter searches for EPBs so I'm hoping for some help on here. I know EPBs aren't popular amongst those who like to fix their own cars so perhaps if any of you are avoiding these you could share the Make, Model and Year? -
Nissan 100NX - Personal Contract Hire and car written off 24 May 2015 (Forum)
Hi, a quick question around PCH. I entered into a 4 year lease contract where at the end of the period you hand the car back. If the car is written off I understand that the insurance company and lease finance company settle directly based in the car's current value. Is it as simple as this? If my lease contract was for a total of £8000 over the four years and I have paid out over £3200 to date, if my vehicle is valued at say £10,000 (it is only a year old and its sale value was £14000), am I correct that the insurers pay the lease company the money owed on the lease and I receive the rest? -
Neighbours car - New Tyres Please 8 Sep 2014 (Forum)
My neighbour has a 13 year old VW bora/jetta 20 diesel which runs quite well, and has the usual glitch of the abs light coming on intermittently, and is disinclined to fix it due to the age of the car and cost, although using this forum have pointed him in the way of fixes. -
Mazda 3 - My rights under warranty 30 Apr 2014 (Forum)
1 year old car that has a fault necessitating RAC call out twice. When fault develops car is barely driveable. At this juncture Dealer is unable to locate fault ( seems to be in electrical connections that RAC mad twiddled with, but dealer says unless they can isolate fault, will not replace under warranty.) -

Suzuki Swift - Car wrote off but not showing on database 13 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I had a accident in my car over a year ago and it took over three weeks before the insurance company wrote it off, I got money back for it then got another car and that was the end of it. Until the other day I was looking at another car and paid to check for the history and that came up as a cat d as that was what the dealer said it was. -

Mitsubishi Lancer - Botched Repair on Brand New Car 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I then noticed significant damage to the dashboard and fascia trim where this screwdriver had been used to gouge off the trim of the satnav headunit. This car is barely a month old. Any suggestions for tackling the dealer on this botched repair job? Can I expect to get the car repaired to my complete satisfaction? -
Renault Clio 1.2 1997 petrol - Engine misfires after replacing broken timing belt 6 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The car did 66000miles. 1. Is it safe to drive the car in this condition without further repairs? Or am I likely to break down soon or cause more damage to the car? 2. With the car being so old would it be worth it to have the cylinder head either repaired or replaced and would that solve the misfiring problem? -
Insurance- new car replacement 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I'm looking to take out RTI Gap on my new car. There is an option to delay the start of the GAP policy for 12 months, as my insurance company provide a replacement car in the first year. The only fly in the ointment is that I'm planning to change my insurance company in June, due to a nightmare I had trying to change the car over. -
Just bought a used car - deceived by dealership. 29 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I've just picked up a 3 year old used car from a main dealership. It was advertised with only 13.5k on the clock. A few days after viewing it I agreed over the phone to go ahead with the purchase, and was sent an invoice by the dealership to sign and return.
