  • Ford fiesta Zetec 1.25 56 plate - Engine noise at higher speeds 9 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Wen driving at speeds of 50mph plus I have noticed a hum on the engine (sounds just like a vroom, vroom, vroom repetitively) the radio drowns out the noise but as this noise is a repetitive one should I be worried? I'm thinking I am used to driving 1.8 litre cars and it may just be the fiesta's make up but would like some advice from you lovely people!!
  • ford focus mk2 2006 2.0 petrol - Heater control panel removal 21 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I need to remove my heater control panel. I have removed the radio, and can now see the connections on the back of the panel. There is a cable connected to the back of the air direction control dial that I cannot remove. the cable has a large green collar that you can pull back away from the panel, but it will only come so far, as there appears to be some kind of hidden spring holding it on.
  • FIAT Ducato 2.5D 1998 - Electrics go mad, no headlamps 14 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Electrics are doing many wierd things.   During starting the engine power is cut to the headlamps and radio (normal behaviour).  Intermittently this power is being cut at other times: either for long periods, or momentarily when switching between dip and main beam. Sometimes the engine does not turn off when the ignition is turned off.
  • Vauxhall Zafira (58 Reg) design - Battery can't hold charge 12 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Once the car is stopped and left alone, with nothing on, there seems to be no problem, car starts fine every time. But if (as I have done twice now) put the radio on for 30 mins max whilst washing / cleaning etc, when you come to start the car again, the battery seems more or less dead. The central locking, ignition lights, indicators etc may or may light, starter motor clicks and will not turn.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 02 1.0l Won't start 16 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I'm having nothing but problems with my wife's Corsa C. It's the 1.0l 12v. I drained the battery listening to the radio when doing work for it's recent MOT. I recharged and it ran lumpy, mis-fired at low revs and lacked power. Two days later I went to start it in the morning and it wouldn't even fire. I've checked for a spark and all three plugs are firing fine, also fuel is reaching the cylinders but it just won't fire at all.
  • Audi A6 3.2 FSI 2004 - Water ingress kills MMI 12 Nov 2011 (Forum)
My car has just been into dealer to have new disks and pads fitted. After leaving dealer and driving home the radio switched itself off and didn't come back on. Then i noticed the mmi system was off and would not come back on. Back it went to dealer. After diagnosis they said it was a control unit that needed replaced (£335) but after replacing the unit it still didn't work.
  • Rover 45 - Problems with car battery and starting the car 15 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Just some extra info that may be irrelevan but when i use the electric windows they seem to be going a little slower than normal and finally if i park the car and then use the radio or cd player while the engine is off, even for just a minute or two, the engine will not start again next time as the battery will be flat?   Is this problem the battery or something else?
  • MG TF - MG TF Engine Warning Light On 22 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I also disconnected the battery (for about 30 seconds) to try and reset the system but only succeeded in erasing the memory on the radio. Do I need to disconnect the battery for longer? Is the fault related to the long drive (such as something dislodged and blocking a sensor)? Is this a common fault? I would greatly appreciate any help.
  • Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 97 2088 Ignition Switch - Diesel 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
It came to a halt with smoke emanating from below the steering wheel and further investigation showed that the visible wiring is all fine so feel that the ignition switch is the problem. My keypad is dead but some electrical items still work such as lights heater blower &radio. I have been told that this switch is now obselete but even if I obtain one from a scrap yard I will still need a Peugeot garage to make it recognise the keypad security system which adds greatly to the expense .
  • My car is ten years old. What am I missing? 26 Oct 2009 (Forum)
My first car was a 1959 Ford Popular. Side valve engine, 3-speed box, dodgy brakes, poor performance, inadequate heater, no radio, vacuum wipers. And it went to the scrapyard with about 70,000 miles on it having already had an engine change. Move forward about 40 years. I now have a 1999 Focus. Decent engine, 5-speed box, decent brakes, more than adequate performance, aircon, CD player and wipers that don't slow down on hills.
  • What happened to police controlling the traffic? 16 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Just got in after a horrendous journey caused by traffic lights not working at the intersection of the A1 and the North Circular Road. Both roads are tremendously busy at this time of day and the result is chaos. I heard on the radio traffic reports that the HAD been a problem with the lights, but this had been fixed, so I carried on my usual route, rather than avoid the area. The report was false - thanks Auntie Beeb - and when I got there I encountered (almost) gridlock.

  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 03 1.9 CD changer - rattling 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm a bit concerned about plugging it into the car though, since the part sounds a) fairly big and b) metallic so I don't want to take the chance of zapping the radio though an inadvertent short circuit. Please can someone confirm that these don't make an alarming rattling noise when turned upside down so I can get on with trying to get a refund? [Something I'm not looking forward too since I paid £15 for the postage and want that back too].
  • Mitsubishi - Too Much Advertising 5 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Is it me or do you hear an advert for Mitsubishi at least every 30 minutes on commercial radio? Go on ebay and there they are again! Wherever you go theres an ad giving you huge discounts well beyond the norm. Now I might be suspicious especially with suggestions that Mitsubishi have taken over the UK Importer, The Colt Car Company, but is this panic advertising?
  • 'Drafting or slip streaming - false economy? 5 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I know, professional drivers [sic] and all that but yesterday afternoon at Wolley Edge the M1 was closed for a good 5+ hours and in both directions. I have not seen of or heard actual confirmation yet but the local radio said the police had informed them that the accident may have been caused by vehicles tailgating.
  • Nissan Primera IV p12 (2002 - 2006) - 2002 1.8 se - abs fault 30 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hi i,m new to this so here goes. The abs warning light comes on when the ignition is turned to the ready position and goes out. When the engine has been started the light comes on after a few minutes and stays on even though the car has not moved.I have managed to enter the on screen diagnostic display by pressing the info button and turning the radio volume knob clockwies until the display shows error history. This says there is a none functioning component, but i dont know if this relates to the abs system.I have checked the sensors on each wheel for dirt or damage but they seem fine.I dont know how to check if the sensors are working.
  • Nissan Almera (1995 - 2000) - Centre Console - removing to replace broken light? 18 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know if I'm likely to cause more issues if something falls out etc when I remove the centre console? It looks like it'll unscrew and come away but on it is the radio, two vent fans, the buttons for fog lights and rear demist. I really don't want to risk anything so if anyone can advise whether it's a simple process I'd be grateful, cheers.
  • SPEED Trap locator, portable type 24 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I have a new-ish Tomtom sat nav but not bothered down loading cam info and do not want to regularly set it up just below the radio but can't leave it there even covered as criminals may see it. So is there a good, small device available that do not have to be fitted to the screen and picks up all static locations, the flash cams and none flash cams and possibly give info of portable speed traps - and easy to update for free if poss or will pay - but unit has to be good and compact and very easy to set up, ie just plug in Looked at autoexpress but they only had about 4 teasted.
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - Noisy air con 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I dont think these two problems are connected but would appreciate any advice. Can I lubricate anything or shall I do what I do in my old Volvo - turn up the volume on the radio. Thanks,, Mike
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - noisy rough idle. loss of power 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
i also suspect my VSS is on the way out as the speedo occasionally goes a little haywire and i have had to turn off AVC on radio cos of the volume issue. Any suggestions? before i get shut of it! wish i had fixed my head gasket on the scenic now, instead i got this thing instead! Its had New CAT, O2 sensor, plugs, oil & filter, Air filter. still runs like swearing deleted
