  • Pleasing fuel consumption 19 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I reckon 50mpg is pretty good for a car that pulls pretty well if you give it some wellie. There's a few people on here who are unhappy with their car's fuel consumption. Are there any others - like me - who are quite pleased with the mileage they are getting?
  • BMW 3-Series E36 (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.8 No Fuel Intake 19 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hi i am having a problem with Fuel intake on a BMW 318i (96). I recently ran low on petrol, the petrol light had been on for about 15- 20 miles. Any ways it would not start and was just juddering, then stallign if i applied the accelerator.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 2000 1.9 ltr Automatic fuel consumption 19 May 2008 (Forum)
I bought a 316 SE auto (V Reg) few months ago. It has a full service history.(Stamped service record book only, no bills) I am concerned re fuel consumption. It does only about 23mpg with no city driving involved. I did a motorway run of 300 miles which averaged about 30 mpg. Could anyone please tell me if this is about right? If not what could be the problem?
  • Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - 02 2.0 ECU/Fuel Pump 4 May 2008 (Forum)
When my Astra (2.0 tdi 2002) warms up the rev needle drops to zero and it starts idling. A diagnostic check later and one mechanic claims that the fuel pump needs replacing as does the ECU and another says its the ECU and faulty speed sensor. The total cost of repair (from each mechanic) is about £700 (plus VAT) not to mention the labour. Has anybody had a similar problem and do they know a cheaper method of resolving this?
  • Concerns over Fuel Pricing 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I am sure like many others I have watched with concern at the seemingly endless increase in the cost of fuel at the pumps. It is easy to point the finger at individuals profiteering or the Government choosing to bail out ailing banks rather than help out its hard pressed tax payers. At the height of this fiasco prices rose to $100 a barrel and were blamed for the almost daily increase per litre.

  • Ford Escort 1.8 TD LX 21 Jan 2007 (Forum)
There is no air at all in the fuel system it just seems as though the pump has given up the ghost and died. I cannot understand how this could just happen as it was working fine up until I ran out of fuel. Any help or advice on this subject will be most gratefully received.
  • 98 A4 Audi Fuel starvation at speed 13 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I got a 98 petrol Audi A4 recently and it was fine at low speeds and around town, but when I took it on the motorway and tried to increase the speed or the revs go above 2500 the car lurches as if it has fuel starvation. An OBD Scan didn't show an problems at all and no error messages or codes show on the dash. It starts first time from cold every time. The man at the Audi dealers sucked his teeth and wouldn't even give a guesstimate to the problem or a cost to fix it.
  • Renault 19 fuel gauge 21 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Hi, for some time I have been very suspisious of the fuel gauge, as I have been convinced that it is under reading, so yesterday when the gauge showed to be just above reserve I put in approx 27 litres and the gauge settled to just bellow 1/4. Both the handbook that came with the car and the haynes manuel state that the tank holds 55 litres.
  • Poor fuel economy 1.6 primera 1 Jun 2006 (Forum)
No warning lights, no other signs of rich running. It has a daily work journey of 20 minutes each way. At the moment it is guzzling more fuel than my skyline so there is something clearly wrong with it. Are the petrol gauges in these known to be dicky? He is judging by the gauge at the moment as one of the possibilities is of course a leak so sticking in 10 gallons seems slightly risky :0-) teabelly
  • Re: Help - Wrong fuel!! 14 Dec 2005 (Forum)
What problems can I expect to happen with this low amount of petrol in the car. (I have read scary things about swarf in the system and cost of replacing whole fuel system etc) - i.e. do I need to confess?!

  • Can I demand they repair it FOC? 8 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Know this might sound a stupid question but if a garage damages your car whilst its with them, am I within my rights to get them to do the necessary repairs free of charge? Garage took my car last week for a repair which required the removal of the fuel tank. In doing so they spilt most of the fuel in my car. What happens when I get my car back and it still stinks of fuel or worst still the seats or something are damaged in some way. Can I refuse it until they have cleaned it up properly?
  • LagunaII 1.9Dci Fuel injection fault 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Anyone else had this problem with their diesel LagunaII? Intermittant 'Fault in Fuel injection' message, car refuses to go over 2,200 rpm. Fault clears if you stop and restart engine (not too feasible in outside lane!). 'Air valve' and 'solenoid' have been changed under warranty, car going back shortly for 5th attempt at sorting.
  • Primera - petrol fumes 19 Apr 2002 (Forum)
our 96 1.6 primera develops petrol fumes in and around the car but only when the fuel tank is less than half full and the engine is hot. With a full tank there is no smell. I have checked for leaks and found nothing, with or without the engine running. I have noticed that there are two pipes under the bonnet apparently coming from the fuel tank, one enters the fuel filter and then carries on to the injector system - the other goes into a large canister and then connects directly into the inlet manifold under the injectors.
  • super unleaded fuel 2 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Also is it worth trying this in my 1994 single point injection 1.3 Mini Cooper? I realise the engine is basically a 40 year old design with modern fuel injection and because of this I am reluctant to try it; however I would still be interested to know. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
