HDi just lost all power in cloud smoke 1 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Just limped home in 2nd gear after driving HDi Citroen Synergie 2000 W reg (96,000 miles) - up hill with 4 occupants - car was working hard at 70mph approx - sudden loss of power felt through throttle pedal, and smoke out back. Had to pull in, down to very low power, only able to do very low speeds. -
Car for huge mileage? 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I am not all that bothered about prestige etc. and I think that fuel economy will be my primary concern. My current thoughts are a Citroen C2 1.4 HDI, which has massive fuel economy, but I'm not so keen - a bit of a kids car perhaps? how refined would it be on the motorway, I'm not overly keen on being deafened by the engine! Others might be a Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI, which seems to be well regarded for refinement and comfort, or the Toyota Yaris, which is reported as being fairly noisy. -
Corsa Diesel - Glow Plug Problem 10 Jul 2004 (Forum)
When it has been for a run then the car starts ok. I have noticed that the Glow Plug Indicator is only on for about 2.5 seconds. I have a Citroen ZX Diesel and the indicator is on for twice as long. Could it be that the time is too short and the plugs are not reaching the optimum temperature and, if so, how do you get a more realistic warming up time? -
Noisy PAS 31 Mar 2003 (Forum)
My Citroen ZX developed a slight leak recently, which the garage informed me was power steering fluid and nothing to worry my pretty little head about. A couple of weeks later, the PAS starts making complaining noises when I am steering the car round sharp bends. -
Xantia gearbox synchro problems? 25 Feb 2003 (Forum)
To cut a long story short, the problem turned out to be disc pad retaining clips which apparently Citroen know about but keep a close secret (why?). Glad to say the original grumbling has just been cured 4 months after their first attempt. BUT....as a result of the original gearbox work (which proved a complete red herring), the synchro changing from 1st to 2nd appears to be shot; at best, it "clicks", at worst I can pause the gearchange between 1st and 2nd and it's like I haven't got the clutch pressed at all. -
South Americans trash air-con 20 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Yes, it's true, in a bid to distract footy fans from supporting our chaps by turning our cars into saunas, Brazilian extremists have apparently sabotaged the air-con on my 1992 Citroen BX. The car last had working air-con last autumn; since then it has been laid up. I say working, but it used to cool the system below freezing so that there was no air-flow through the heater vents if it was left on for more than 20 mins. -
Xantia - strange noise 13 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The noise goes off a couple of seconds after the engine is turned off - if the key is turned slowly, it is clear that the noise goes off at the same stage the stop solenoid comes in. If the engine is re-started immediately, the noise is gone, though later recurs. Citroen dealer I use agrees the noise is there, but can't locate it - neither they nor I can make it do it on command, so I have sympathy with the,. Any thoughts? Could this be the EGR valve? I've heard of another Hdi engine that was described as having a noise like a bee in a bottle, which was a faulty EGR valve? -
Fluctuating Coolant Level 3 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Some help please. My 1990 Citroen BX TGD, ie the 1905cc normally aspirated diesel, recently required the hose leading to the heater matrix replacing as it was leaking coolant through it. The repair has been effected and the coolant level has stabilised for several days and hundreds of miles in the coolant expansion bottle at the recommended level. -

Even a pointer to a site giving second-hand car values would be useful. Mark. p.s. He doesn't want a Citroen. -
"New" Subaru dilemma 24 Jun 2001 (Forum)
So, is this a new colour (Subaru seem to change pretty frequently), should I reject it or demand a bigger discount? Not happy as left with feeling being conned. No I don't want a Citroen - my local dealer is an a**e! -
Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6i - Airbag light constantly off 9 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Even Haynes manual has a special one whose advice regarding airbags is "Report to bank, extend mortgage, report to citroen dealer and prepare to lose your home" useful. Then I started reading forums, all of them and this one is one of at least 40 I have joined in the hope someone will have half a clue whats gone wrong. -
C4 Picasso 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Well after looking at various vehicles it looks like my father has made a choice on what car to go for as a replacement for his X-type now that due to MS he can no longer drive it. And the winning car is........................A Citroen C4 Picasso Grand 2.0d. he is getting it on Motability and is costing him less for 3 years then the insurance alone does on the X-type. Now about the car, went with him this week to test drive it for him, and I have to say I was quite impressed. -

Help me choose my dad?s next car... 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The XM is dead, (or on its deathbed anyway), long live the ???? My dad's 1993 Citroen XM 2.1 turbo diesel auto estate, which he has had from new, has been recently diagnosed with a myriad of faults that mean it is not cost effective for him to repair as it will probably fail the next MOT which is due in a few months time. -
Nearly new car running very badly 12 May 2005 (Forum)
Hello, I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on my problems. I have a 2001 Citroen Xsara 1.4, which I understand uses the PSA 1.4TU engine. From about 6 weeks old, the car would run a bit 'rough' when started whilst warm, and fine when started cold. Dealer couldn't find any problem even after a few visits, so I took it to another dealer who were more helpful. -

Audi 100 1989 - Why older cars have big fuel tank than the new? 17 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Is that something to do with emissions to reduce the weight of the cars to downsize the tank? Fiat 500 is 28 litres, Panda 35 while the old for an example Citroen AX 43 litres, the Peugeot 205 it has 47 litres! -
Top Gear 2002 style 23 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Not really a fan of Clarkson, but I was interested enough to download that first episode out of curiosity. Quite enjoyed it, being a blast from the past. There was a feature on the Citroen Berlingo (which Clarkson really liked surprisingly), the Pagani Zonda and the new Mazda 6 amongst others. Before getting to the £10k (new) Berlingo, Clarkson was standing by a MK1 Focus and MK4 Golf (both 1.6), talking about that class of car being around £12k new!. -
Mercedes-Benz B-Class, Kia Venga, Hyundai iX20 - Best used mini-MPV/compact car? 6 Mar 2021 (Forum)
This would be a first car, so on the one hand I want something small (think a second hand Citroen C1, or Mazda 2) but cannot find anything like that with a higher driver seat, but as I also want a slightly bigger boot than the C1, I started looking at these mini-MPVs. Guess I also have to consider insurance, and am unsure which of these is better in that way.
