  • Why MPVs gone out of fashion? 22 May 2021 (Forum)
Kia Carens no longer sold (they are not selling Sedona/Carnival in UK) VW Sharan no longer sold Vauxhall Zafira no longer sold Seat Alhambra no longer sold Toyota Sienna/Estima not available in UK (unless you import 10 year old JDM cars) Honda Stepwagon not available in UK After Mazda 5, Mazda never introduced any MPV After Grandis, Mitsubishi never sold any MPV The ones which are still available VW Touran Ford SMax Ford Galaxy Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer Off course one can buy in used market but makes me wonder what reason behind MPVs disappearing. Just too many SUVs and not enough MPVs. Some car magazines now featuring vans (like Ford Tourneo, Berlingo, ProAce Verso etc.) as cars!
  • Toyota Avensis - Need a petrol auto 21 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I need a largish car as I have 4 children and all their assorted clobber can easily fill the boot of the Passat. I saw a nice Mazda 3 locally but it was sold before I could even look at it. Citroen C4 cactus may fit the bill. Are the 1.2 engines reliable? Any input appreciated
  • Mazda 2 - Stick or twist? 28 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Trade in value is around the £500 mark apparently.  Current candidate if decision is made to trade in is a Citroen C3 Flair with the 1.2 engine. 2018 (18 plate) with 24k miles, currently on sale for £8200.  Any words of wisdom from the collective? Thanks.
  • Mitsubishi Space Star 1.3. Cost of repairs much more? 29 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Is yer average mechanic going to be utterly unfamiliar with a Space Star? Would that matter? Etc. I've also been considering Citroen Picassos because they tend to be cheaper to buy at my end of the market than, say, an equivalent Focus etc. but the ones I've seen so far have all had obvious faults. So the querstion boils down to: Would I be shooting myself in the foot to buy an obscure car such as the Space Star?
  • Vauxhall Meriva - Folding front passenger seat - more info please 8 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I'm interested in the older Meriva, but am not sure if it will be big enough to accommodate the gear I carry (I might have to go a bit bigger and get a Nissan Tino, Focus estate, Citroen Picasso etc.). I read that the front passenger seat In the Meriva will fold flat but I'm wondering in what way exactly it folds, ie. does the backrest fold all the way back or forward?
  • C3 Picasso - Finding 'spare' wheels for c3 picasso 15 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I needed a full size spare wheel for travelling abroad(Just in case!). What A CARRY ON! Apparently Citroen do not have a 17'' Steel wheel for a C3 Picasso(the Alloys were hugely expensive) so I was advised a 16'' wheel would be ok but omitted to tell me that I would need a different tyre to achieve the same diameter as the alloys already fitted(original tyres are Michelin low profile).
  • Peugeot 508 2.0 HDI vs Skoda Superb Estate 22 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Insignia and Mondeo also possibilities, but neither really excite me, same for Passat Estate "SPORT" Don't want Avensis even though I had 2 already, just want a change. Certainly don't want anything Korean. Citroen C5 is just Dire, the DS5 looks OK but driving position doesn't suit me. What a dilemma . . .
  • Renault Laguna 2005 or... - Are all French cars that bad? 26 Feb 2013 (Forum)
. - Also he used to work as a mecanic, so he can help fix whatever needs fixing. Our last car was a Citroen C5 from 2002 and has been an absolute disaster, so the thought of newer car is somewhat appealing, but the question is if that newer car is more likely to go wrong?... Any advice, please? Thanks, Britta
  • Skoda Superb Estate, VW Passat Estate, - Diesel or Petrol Estate/MPV 14 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Also , have a 1999 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi, which regularly achives 45mpg in town on short trips and 60mpg+ on motorway and still going well at 162K+ miles and so will be keeping this. I am looking at Skoda Superb estate, VW Passat estate, Renault grand scenic and Citroen Belingo. I am wary of modern diesels because of known problems, but will a 26 mile daily commute solve these potential problems? I am looking to part ex the Fabia plus add up to £15k.
  • Fiat Panda Climbing 4 x 4 - Exhaust cost 4 May 2011 (Forum)
I am a woma of 70, living in a studio with no access/skill  for DIY repairs so I took it to a local garage (it is a main distributeur for Citroen, not Fiat).  They said it could not be repaired and quoted me about £300 to supply a system a new exhaust.   They showed me were the break was - at the front, between the perforated bit and the long pipe!
  • Peugeot 607 - 607 3.0 Auto 'Clonks' into Reverse Gear 31 May 2010 (Forum)
Given that the car is in an auction it's impossible to test drive it before buying it. I've never had a 607 before but a few years ago I had a Citroen C5 3.0 with the same engine and the tiptronic gearbox. I can't remember if this car made a vibration when put into reverse. Greatly appreciate any advice.
  • Difficult to buy a new car 3 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Gently pushed him again after a week, and again was told he would get back to me and nothing, so in my book lost sale - no third chances! Citroen C5 is also in the running. First dealership was to busy to even acknowledge me so I left. Requested brochure from website to which I get a letter to tell me they are out of brochures for C5 so they suggest I read the website or try the dealer who was to busy to speak with me.....
  • Volkswagen Touran MPV (2003 - ) - 04 1.9 Forecourt Diesel Pump Cuts out all the time 9 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I cannot understand why this is happening, the fuel isn't blocking the airhole cutout, as the tank is usually empty. It's not the pump, as I fill up my other Citroen at the same pump, same petrol station, so it's something with the Touran's tank or inlet pipe which is to blame Any ideas anyone. More of an annoyance, and I'm loathe to take it to VW as they'll probably find an expensive problem to fix on this 4 year old car Thanks Charles
  • Car catches fire during service. What to do? 19 Mar 2008 (Forum)
A friend recently took her Citroen HDi in for a service at a non franchised garage. During the service they noticed a frayed wire to an injector and the cambelt was due for replacement. She dutifully booked it back in a couple of days later to be fixed.
  • Switching off when stationary - is it worth it? 7 Mar 2008 (Forum)
One recommendation was to switch off your engine when stationary eg traffic lights. Now I know VW and Citroen have previously sold stop/start cars that did this automatically but is there really a saving to be made? I understand it will put more pressure on a starter motor but I have never had a starter motor break down since my Talbot Samba so maybe they are up to it nowadays?
  • Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - Pulling to the left 16 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I won't hear a softroader taunt against them, miles better than all my previous vehicles (not all Citroens) and half the price of a Freelander for the same comfort level - we've got one of each in the family. Still suffer summer tyre noise though, softer, winter tyres quite a bit better. Cheers, Bill
  • Megane v C4 v Focus 1 Nov 2007 (Forum)
They are all well equipped in different ways, the Focus with leather heated seats and screen, the C4 and Megane in safety stuff and various extra little things, see-me-home lights, cruise control, etc. I prefer the Megane's gearshift, but the Citroen's steering and pedals are better, though the Focus is better handler (though with the harshest ride). Obviously I don't want to pay over the odds, or spend more than I have to, but which is the better car?
  • MOT diesel test 1 May 2007 (Forum)
Has anyone had an experience like this? I took my 3-years-old Citroen Berlingo Multispace HDi in for its first MOT at a garage here in Easter Ross the other day. At the conclusion, the workshop foreman came over and said, "The vehicle's absolutely fine except it's a little smokey and needs a good clear-out to get through the emissions test.
  • re-initialising Xsara remote 29 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hi my friends citroen Xsara (4 door 1.4 petrol 1999) remote control stopped working..one button (opened or closed.. can't remember) worked but you could hear something rattling around inside. I offered to have a look inside.. having had some good experience in small circuit board repairs.
  • Help pick a small van 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I have heard a lot of horror stories from the trade people over reliability. Also been told to look at Transit Connect, Citroen Berlingo & the new shape VW Caddy. Max cost of £9K either new or nearly new ( dont worry about VAT, thats claimed back ) & its a cash sale, must be a diesel, must have ABS, deadlocks would be a good plus, alarm would be nice & also so would aircon.
