Coolant and brake fluid questions? 4 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Planning at some point to change the coolant and brake fluid on the Mondeo, Clio and Kawasaki ZRX, a few questions: 1/ According to Haynes Ford original fit coolant is OK "for the life of the car", I have had it from new so I know it has not been changed for an inferior type or diluted, any thoughts? 2/ Renault and Kawasaki conveniently both specify ethylene-glycol based coolant with corrosion inhibitors suitable for steel/alluminium, what is the best coolant? Halfords own? 3/ The Mondeo requires brake fluid to Ford spec ESD-M6C57-A, Haynes also say Super DOT 4, will any Super DOT 4 fluid meet this Ford standard? -
Moving abroad: car finance 12 Apr 2006 (Forum)
In two weeks he's going to be heading out to Hungary for 12 months to work there. In the UK he has a Renault Megane which he's been paying off, I think he's about 1/3 of the way through the payments. Obviously, he can't take the car with him and he doesn't want to mothball it and keep paying. The finance company have offered him a settlement figure (circa 5 grand), which he doesn't have the spare cash to pay off in one go. -
Any auto trans bods in the house? 22 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm planning a bit of an odd ball project and need your thoughts on a potential transmission problem. To outline the project, I have a 2.2 litre front wheel drive Renault Espace automatic, to which I am planning to mid mount a 4 litre Jag engine and auto box, driving a rear axle. (That's as well as the front engine, not instead of!) I can sort most of the problems with running both ends together, but where I'm going to come unstuck is when in economy mode and just running on the front engine, the rear trans is going to cook its clutches. -
Two cars to one. 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I have suggested something along the lines of a new Golf convertible but it's not available yet. Audi convertible is too big and they won't consider a French motor so no Pug or Renault Coupe/Cabrios! £20,000 budget. -
Milage reset on New Fiat Punto Active. 15 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I believe I was able to reset it to zero by holding the multifunction button in and then turning on the ignition and holding for 20 seconds, (like VW and Renault service monitor systems). Does anybody else have any other experience of this? Can anybody reproduce? Looks like a great easy way of clocking a car as NO tools were used!! Thanks, Quicksilver. -
generalising about dealers 25 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Every so often in the Backroom, I read general comments about Citroen dealers, or VAG dealers, or Renault dealers or . . . . These generalisations are rarely complimentary. Can one really generalise that way about all the dealers for a certain marque? I can understand generalisations about dealers for certain manufacturers which are very good, e.g. -
Megane 1996 - bonk in front suspension 13 May 2005 (Forum)
Since I bought my megane a year ago for my son to learn to drive in, it has had a persistent bonk from the nearside front suspension. The garage (not a Renault dealer) took a look at it a couple of times. First time they reported replacing a worn bolt (location unspecified). Second time they noted a shock leaking and that this could be causing it, so I had the pair replaced with no effect. -
What's your favourite factory fit radio. 9 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Mercedes have a very hollow sound on MW, although FM and CD sound quality excellent. Most awkward to use? Renault with the tuner list nonsense. Very difficult use and to tune radio to your favourite station. Not user friendly at all. Also current Mondeo and Focus radios have lost the edge they used to have. on/off switch is recessed and volume up or down difficult to use. -
Cooling system - lost coolant. Megane. 29 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Renault Megane Diesel 1.9td - 1997 model. I was noticed slight smoke coming from the engine after a long journey. When I took a look, the coolant tank was completely empty, (was checked a few weeks ago and was okay). -
annoying knocking on scenic 2 29 Nov 2004 (Forum)
No help needed just to inform any one with similar problems this could be the answer. For some time I have had an annoying and worrying knock from the front offside suspension on my scenic 2.This occured fairly randomly but usualy when changing direction from forward to reverse or reverse to forward.I finaly found the problem after checking every nut / bolt / ball joint on the front suspension. It was both bolts fixing the sub frame ( frame that supports the lower wish bone to the vehicle under the drivers feet area)were not tight. This has also curred a minor pull to the right, which has been on the vehicle since new, but unfixable by the renault garage.I might add this pull to the right was not a major problem just a mystery. So it would seem that these fixings were not tight from when the vehicle was manufactured. rustbucket (the original) -
Laguna II Brakes 27 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I have recently had new front brake disks and pads allround fitted to my 53 plate laguna 1.9dci, as the pads warped after 40k and less than 50% max wear. (Renault UK wouldn't replace them under warranty, but thats a different story...) Anyway, when I drove the car away from the dealers, the brakes just didn't seem to have the bite that they had before. I had noticed that copper slip had been applied and that of course the discs and pads would need to bed. 1500 miles later the brakes are as vauge as ever. -

Which 7 seater 24 Sep 2004 (Forum)
The only pre-requisite is to have 3 seats (individual ones) across the middle. I have been looking at: VW Touran (too expensive?, bad dealers) Renault Grand Scenic (reliability?) Toyota Corolla Verso (size?) Toyota Avensis Verso (?) Mitsubishi Grandis (too big?) Honda Stream (only 6 seats?) not sure if I have left off any that should be there so would welcome any practicle experience so that i can narrow down the fild. -

Laguna Engine cut out 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
After being stationary for less than a minute the engine will start immediately and then cut out again a couple of hundred yards up the road. due to age and mileage 147K it does not justify spending a fortune and would be a shame to send it to the scrap yard due to its overall condition. Apart from the usual niggly renault problems it is an excellent drive. Does anyone know the answer to this annoying and frustrating problem ? The on board nag tells me there is a fuel injection problem and to contact you know who. -
the most INTERESTING sub-group 10 car? 8 Jan 2003 (Forum)
A few examples I thought of were as follows: Ford Puma 1.4/1.7 BMW 316i Sport Compact (1998/9) New MINI One/Cooper possibly New Ford Fiesta 1.4 A/C Zetec 3dr VW Lupo GTI 1.6/1.4 Sport Audi A3 1.6 Sport Renault Megane coupe or Clio? Basically I wouldnt mind something a bit exclusive and that does 0-60mph in around 10 seconds or less Any ideas? Coupes, Convertibles, etc.. considered (preferably small-medium) -
Looking after a black car 8 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I was just wondering if anyone with a black car can recommend a good shampoo and polish (I'm using Autoglym resin at the moment - Ok but nothing special in terms of shine or lasting protection.) Years ago I used Simoniz 'Liquid Diamond' silicone sealant on a Renault. I seem to remember it did a good job, but haven't seen it for ages. Also - any good ideas for getting dead flies off the bonnet? Cheers Graeme. -
440 and 480 engines - please help! 20 May 2002 (Forum)
Hi everyone, seriously important question: Is there any difference between the 440 turbo head and the 480 turbo head. (Both of which are classed as part of the B17FT renault engine and they sure look the same - like that means a lot!). For example if there are any diffences in compression between the two car engines, would the head have been modified as part of this difference?
