  Also I noticed that once in a while the amber light/icon showing a car on slippery roads flashes Oh and the radio has started cutting out.......and the windows won't go up and down suently every time....every now and again it pauses and starts again, in no particular place.   Are these Fords a bit troublesome with the electrics?

  I use the TP programme on my car radio for traffic news. Increasingly I notice, between rush hours, that there is no news, only re-cycled reports from earlier problems. This only applies to BBC local stations but they are inclined to interrupt other BBC programmes at inappropriate moments, usually when the detective in the play is about to announce who dunnit!

  Only 1 airbag and no power steering though - should that bother me? I can live with the manual windows, locks, and lack of radio. Will only be doing approx 6k miles/year (second car) and I want something as new as possible, so I know what I'm getting. I plan to keep it several years. So, a good deal? The only other possible "bargain" I can think of might be a new Daewoo/Chevy Kalos?

  The heater fan works on all speeds,but when it is placed on the windscreen no air is coming out of the vents. I changed the radio on it,but the co-axial cable was very short,and slipped inside the dash, I had to pull it to get enough length to fit it in the radio.I am wondering if I may have dislodged the vent connecting rods.

  Over the next 2-3 weeks it has gradually got worse. I turn the key and nothing happens except the electrical system kicks in i.e. Radio and all dashboard lights etc come on and the guage needles work. Initially I needed to turn the key 2 or three times and the engine would fire, then it got worse and started to take many more turns.

  All was good until yesterday, slowed for a traffic light, clutch in, stopped, sounded and felt like something "engaged" and a knocking started, I could hear over the radio and feel through my left foot. Put in neutral, clutch out and noise stopped. Clutch back in noise started again. This is now always the case but only when the car is stationary, not when coasting with clutch in.

  The Ford dealer checked everything and is stumped. Perhaps coincidentally, the clock (built into the car radio) has also started playing up, occasionally showing a random time when I start up. Otherwise the car is fine and starts without problems. What can I do next?

  Listened to you this morning on radio 4 news discussing cameras. The other guy was a typical pro camera anorak so whatever you said he had the usual claptrap answer. However I think you should have been more assertive about this business of cameras being blatantly sited at places where no accidents had resulted in deaths.

  Could it be the door mirrors that auto-fold on the Peugeot 407 when I lock the car with the remote (for those urban streets)? Or perhaps the Dolby Surround option on the Volvo S80 stereo (oh, Radio 2 was never the same again!)? Or the solar powered aircon in the Audi S8 that keeps running after you switch your engine off? Or the electric boot close button on the inside of the Peugeot 607 (my friends got tired of that party trick, but I didn't!)?

  HI can anyone help please. i took my car for its MOT today and they couldnt complete the MOT because my door wont open from the outside. it opens from the inside fine but the handle seem alot freer than the other one. ive taken the inside door panel off but how do i get to the actual handle to try and 'connect the cord?'. i need help please. And also i bought the car but the radio is locked and i wasnt given the code. any clues? thanks {moved from discussion - no mention of year of manufacture. OP chose 1995 to 1999 from the drop down menu if that's any help?}

  While travelling to work this morning I hit a hill and noticed the car had no power I had to gear down to 2nd just to get going I then switched off the radio and noticed the car whisteling when I put the gas pedal down basicly the sound is a mix between a fan and a drill if that makes any sense the sound only kicks in at around 2000rpm. I also noticed a massive cloud of smoke as i went through the gears but settled as I got to about 5th.

  By time I left at 5.45 it had all stopped and the wipers removed what was on my windscreen with one wipe. And then I had to put the radio on.......... There have been snow showers in Glasgow and it is now forecast that this may turn to ice over the course of the evening so the advice is..... only make your journey if its essential.......

  I was driving past an MOD establishment when I lost all instruments, car continued to run, but had no instrument panel and radio died, after about 30 seconds, it all came back to life, but the mileage had shot up to 150,000 miles and the fuel and temperature guages no longer work. Did speak to the MOD and asked if they were testing EMP weapon or something, they said "what EMP weapon" and got quite shirty, so im looking at buying a replacement panel and popping it in, but there doesnt appear to be any obvious means of removal.

  So why is it risky? Its a stolen-recovered with an immobiliser problem. The interior is tidy (although the radio has been removed without care), and the bodywork only has a small dent in the wing. The leather seats are without damage. Its just the immobiliser and the fuel-pump that make it a non-starter. Oh, and its got no history with the vehicle (apart from a phone call to the supplying dealer confirming the only times they saw it was at 80K for a service and MOT).

  I always try to park with the front wheels in the straight ahead position unless on a steep hill when I will point them to the kerb. ( Looks tidier ) Always turn the radio off prior to turning the engine off even though it would go off automatically ( just in case ) Always turn wipers off prior to turning engine off as I can't bear untidily parked wipers Always give a door handle a tug even after remote locking ( just to be sure ) and many more.................... ;-)

  I'm still banging my head against a wall trying to find a way to play CD's in my car!!! Its a 1997 A4 1.8T Sport which has a radio/cassette head unit. Some nice person has at some time in the cars life removed the CD auto changer from the boot! What I'd like to do is get myself a compatible single disc genuine Audi head unit which will fit in the dash and also plug in and play without having to faff about with wiring harnesses etc!

  Perodically while driving the speedo and rev counter etc drop to zero, all the dashboard lights come on for a while, the car keeps going and the radio still operates. Any thoughts? Could it be connected to the water problem? I wondered if the voltage to the electrics was dropping too low (battery problem) but the engine seems to turn over and start ok.

  Four problems were encountered within 2 weeks which were resolved by my local dealer in Manchester. The rear seat tumble mechanisms did not work (replaced FOC); interference on the radio (fixed FOC); various electrical problems found to be caused by 3 faulty fuses (replaced at my cost £49); and the climate control needs repressurising (will cost me £69). My letter of complaint to the MD of the Midlands firm received no reply, follow-up email also no reply.
