  • Badge engineering 29 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Most folks it seems dont realise that VW cars can appear in various guises and that Seat, Skodas, and Audis, are often VW classics under the skin, or maybe trim would be more accurate. I note the Skoda Suberb dosnt even try to disguise its roots apart from the badge. So with VW, GM, Ford, etc rebadging and rebodying willy nilly I think it would be a great help to know exactly whats underneath the skin.
  • Selling Stolen Cars 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I shall generalise but it went like this......... Car stolen from outside the house/factory with the keys from inside the premises. Audi/VW/Focus/L200/Vito/Transit are all popular examples, X5 and the like are at the top end. Autotrader scoured for an identical spec vehicle on a dealers forecourt with a registration number visible in the picture, the 'in trade' status is a bonus.
  • Fun practical used car for £6-8k 14 May 2007 (Forum)
I'm not keen on the new MINI and don't see myself as a BMW driver, but would still like plenty of toys for the money (choice between a high-spec Mondeo and a poverty-spec BMW or Audi and I'd go for the Mondeo straight away; likewise I'd tend to go for a Seat Leon rather than VW Golf). I could consider an Alfa but concerned about reliability. I would definitely consider a diesel as I prefer the low/mid range torque to high revs driving style (which puts me off the 1.8 Focus).
  • M-Way Madness - Empty Inside Lane! 6 Nov 2005 (Forum)
,oaps driving micras or other slow moving cars and someone who is day dreaming and has no idea that faster moving traffic is behind them and they and others doing the same are causing the domino effect all down the outside lane. Then as seen tonight a pompus Audi owner who cant wait ,uses the inside lane at well over the speed limit and zig zags thru the traffic on a suicide misson, who nearly hit three cars. Cant the traffic police sort this ,maybe a tv ad ?
  • 2500km in a Citroen Xantia 17 Feb 2002 (Forum)
What I think of the Xantia?. I was given a Xantia Estate as a replacement car (my Audi broke itself). The first one had leather seats, the second does not. Other than that they are identical. As its not a car I would normally drive, I thought I?d write down what I think. Subjective, of course.

  • New car shortlist - who's going to help? 19 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Here's the shortlist so far in alphabetical order, though I'm of course open to other suggestions. Audi A3 2.0 TDI (A4 isn't being discounted much so is probably too expensive) - very good to drive, and steering and handling more direct than the A4. Rear seats don't fold quite flat. But the combination of smallish body and beefy engine is tempting.
  • I need help choosing my next car... 6 Jul 2021 (Forum)
The closest I've got to actually making it selection was the Volvo XC60 inscription pro, but I'm struggling to find the car for my budget.  I have test driven BMWs Audis Volvo Mazda Ford so far – all good cars, but didn’t get on with the Ford/Mazda because of my height.  I do find myself struggling between choosing between a lease (because I know it's only going to be for three years), a nearly new, or older ‘better built’ car.
  • VW cc 2016 - VW Group cars with 02252 Generator fault on OBD 20 Jun 2020 (Forum)
So many customers are paying for new AGM batteries and Alternators and this issue is a known fault in the wiring harness going to the main agents is pointless as VW Group would need to run a massive re call and be hit with warranty claims hire car fees etc. The errors are on Audis and Seat and Skoda and Vw. Many many support forums are listed with customers being told many things but not the truth. In simple terms the AGM battery needs more volts to charge and a 12 Volt battery is more or less flat at 10.5 volts getting the battery to charge needs a special charger with a recovery mode.
  • Bring back the Coupe 29 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Today the single person or couple with smaller or no children have no options beyond expensive German metal for a sporty looking Coupe which kills it for me as I’m no fan of BMW, Mercedes or Audi mainly due to the nasty image. The Toyota GT86 is great but it’s not practical like a Calibra or 406 Coupe. I’d love a modern day Capri based on say the Focus or a Calibra based on the current Astra or Insignia.
  • Sports Car - Classic or Modern(ish) 3 Mar 2020 (Forum)
The points raised above have led us to wonder whether a newer car would be a better bet. We've been looking at Audi TTs and possibly Mercs or even a small Lotus. Our assumptions are that a newer car would be more comfortable and practical but the running costs might be higher. For the same reasons as above. We'd love to have the Communities thoughts and experiences on any of this.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.2 130 EAT6 Allure Premium - The first thousand miles 3 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Being tall, I like the tiny low wheel over which you see the dashboard clearly instead of the top of the wheel sometimes obscuring some of it, as in my Audi.  With 30% more power than our old Focus it's a sporty little thing. The EAT6 box is excellent, even though the relaxed 6th gear (just over 30mph per 1000 revs) is rarely engaged on B or even A roads, although you can persuade it to trundle along the level and downhill bits by nudging it manually into 6th.
  • Diesel estates for motorway driving- 33k miles p/a 20 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I'm trying to run this new car for 3/4 years after which I would it expect to be worthless. Cars I've looked at thus far: Audi A4 Avant (Ultra models), Mercedez C class (bluetec/blueefficiency models), Mazda 6 Tourer, BMW 3 series Gran Turismo (not an Estate, butit caught my eye). If you were in my position, what would you do?
  • Some help needed with car lease 18 May 2017 (Forum)
What I need is some honest advice on MPG, reliability and other motoring issues from people who have knowledge or more importantly first hand experience of the three cars I have chosen. The first two are A. Audi A3 Saloon 2.0 TDI B. Mazda 3 Fastback Sport-nav Skyactiv-D 2.2 The ‘wildcard’ choice is (and surpringly cheaper option of the three) BMW 330e sport trim. Now I would really appreciate honest advice, opinion and entertaining rants to help me decide.
  • Ford Focus Estate 1.6 petrol 55 reg - battery drain /isolator 15 Feb 2016 (Forum)
as it was intermittent and i had no idea when the battery would discharge, again totally frustrating at o.4.40 am when i left the house for work and the battery was totally flat - anyway cut a long story short on the advice of my garage/auto electician decieded to have a promax 12 v isolator fitted and it was explained that this would work if the isolator sensed a drain via the battery it would shut down everything, preserving enough power in the battery to restart the car - i know the isolator works as i have experienced drain on 3 or 4 occasions since having fitted and never failed UNTIL the a couple of days ago, a recent cold snap with tempratures down to +1 - -3 degrees, went to the car as normal tried to open with fob but nothing, opened with key as i could see that isolator had kicked in - nothing at all on dash display, no concerns at this point, expexting isolator to kick back in, when turning the ignition key as normal - but nothing at all, had to jump off the wifes audi, it was only then that the isolator kciked back in and it started first time - now not taking any chances due to early start, and disconnecting the positive termial after 14 mile journey, but have tested the isolator since and hey presto works fine after each 14 mile journey   advice appreciated

  • Porsche 924 turbo - Should I buy this Porsche 924 turbo? 28 Jan 2014 (Forum)
It also has service history from 2009 - present. It has the all Porsche engine and not the Audi edition. What is also so intriguing is the low kilometers, it has only 58 000 kms (36 039 miles). However, I read this article on ebay today http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/Porsche-924-Buying-Guide-/10000000004643150/g.html It talks mostly just about the 924 but not too much about the turbo.
