X5 mad! 29 Sep 2002 (Forum)
From what HJ's news report says, people are spending crazy money on X5's. Not the type of car I like myself but it looks like people really don't care if the car is imported or not so long as it has the toys (and from Holland, you generally get more toys as standard than youdo in the UK!). -

Attn:R.ASPINAL re MINI 20 Aug 2002 (Forum)
If you're still getting a low speed clunk when setting off in the MINI, the unofficial MINI website explains it : http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6733 Basically, it could be the ABS self testing or auto central locking. If it isn't this and you've found the cause I'd be interested to know what it is. Lee. (Who's really going to be talking about MINIs a lot if he gets the chance!) -
Audi & Castrol SLX OIl 26 Jun 2002 (Forum)
I see in the latest Audi Magazine that they are now suggesting oil change intervals (even with P.D. Diesel engines) of 30,000 miles using Castrol`s fully synthetic oil - SLX, and after initial trials have found no measurable wear on mechanicals. From personable experience with an Audi A4 2.8 V6, it burnt 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles, so over 30k the sump would be replenished several times anyway!! -

After years of 'just a bit further and we'll find the camp site' we've decided to go for a night's stop and a bit less pressure. Cheers and thanks in advance Colin S -
Subaru Forester PX Berlingo/Kangoo 12 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I have a new client who needs a Berlingo/Kangoo type utility vehicle for a new business venture. They have a 99T Subaru Forester S Turbo to dispose of. The new venture is top priority so they have very little time to ?shop around? or dispose of the Subaru privately, so they are looking for a part exchange deal. As this should be at worst a straight swap (ideally money back!) -
Hoarding 11 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Looking through my garage I came across many motor spares and tools that I know I will probably never use again, but I?ll keep just in case. ? rusted feeler gauges, Whitworth spanners, micrometers, engineer?s blue ? 6v car bulbs. Is there anything more redundant than a slide rule? Is it a gender thing, do all men hoard? BobH -
Able to drive? 24 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Are there any physical conditions, other than blindness and simple inability to handle the controls, that preclude a person,s roight to drive? For example, I have met drivers who are blind in one eye, another profoundly deaf, others with diabetes and several with angina. All of these either affect the ability to drive or constitute a risk, however small, to driving ability. -
Personal registration 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I have been offered S2 NNM (my initials) today by junk mail from a company called Alpha One, Amersham, Bucks for the apparently very reasonable price of £360 plus VAT and DOT assignment fee of £80. I very much fancy this registration for my S reg Rover 600. Does anyone have any experience with this company? Should I go ahead? Will a personal plate increase my insurance costs (increases the risk of vandalism?)? Thanks, Nick Moore. -
Summer Toy Suggestions 23 Jan 2002 (Forum)

New Corolla 8 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Beautiful fit & finish, especially in the cabin, whith nice plastics and a very 'German' ambience. I've owned two Corollas before (a s/hand F reg 1.6 exec hatch - nice, and a K reg saloon - bland and boring, but both totally reliable) and I must say this one looks like a cracker. The T-Sport with its 190bhp ex Celica engine might be good.......... -
Car Reviews and advertising 5 Jan 2002 (Forum)
An interesting article in today?s Telegraph when ?Motormouth?(Mike Rutherford) resisted the advances of high powered Ford PR men and wrote a pretty damning article on the new Fiesta. Admittedly a subjective view, but there seems to be a correlation between the amount of advertising manufacturers place in newspapers and the level of praise a new model gets given by the motoring correspondent. -
Who needs it? 10 Oct 2001 (Forum)
In an unrelated thread last week, a comment about manufacturers adding new bits just to make us change to a new model caught my eye. Yes, yes. So, let's hear it........... Which new modification(s) in recent years have been wholly superfluous ... or worse, just a darned nuisance? I'll start the ball rolling with infuriating electric windows which I find I always need to wind down justt after I've switched off. -
Wat else will diesel engines fun off? 31 Aug 2001 (Forum)
My cousin runs his early 70's {no road tax} land rover diesel on used engine oil collected by his mate at the local waste disposal site. Uses proper diesel too sometimes. Bad for the environment, but good for his pocket? It tends to run on a bit though, and a little messy filtering the old oil too. -
Vauxhall Omega idle speed 16 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I drops to around 1200 to 1500 rpm and with an automatic box this is a problem because the car wants to travel at 30mph on its own. The Vauxhall dealer has had three attempts to rectifiy this problem and it;s still there. I am aware of another (manual) Omege with the same problem. -
Cash Back Motoring (5PencePerMile) 20 Aug 2009 (Forum)
As a stealth tax Fuel Duty has been very successful; the Government estimates it will bring in approximately £25.7 billion for the 2008/09 tax year and then there is the VAT to add on top of that, it?s equivalent to taking £1,000 from every UK driving license holder and if you spend £135 per month on fuel that?s exactly what they are taking off of you. -
Landmark parking ticket victory 2 Dec 2008 (Forum)
For years councils have unfairly penalised motorists for trivial contraventions like parking slightly over a parking bay and have said ?that?s the law?. Well this is the law and the council failed to comply and must suffer with the consequences? Barrie?s advice to motorists who have received parking tickets for parking on single yellow lines in the F3 zone in Westminster is to contest their parking ticket quoting the ? -
Oil Specification & viscosity Info. 1 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The fact is that in the wrong application a high viscosity oil can be just as damaging as using a low viscosity oil. The use of an oil that?s too ?thin? can cause metal-to-metal contact, poor sealing and increased oil consumption and conversely, an oil that?s too ?thick? can cause increased friction, reduced energy efficiency, higher operating temperatures, and poor cold starts in cold temperatures. -
Ford Mondeo - Mondeo Autobox 2 Nov 2023 (Forum)
I am dubious that life meant much over 10 years old and 100k! Do you think the oil and filter change are worth trying in case it is now s sludge box rather than a slush box?
