  • Customer trying to reject car 15 May 2006 (Forum)
The customer has now written to us wishing to reject the car and wishes a refund. They say they have only travelled 5 miles in the car in the 4 months they have owned it..... Any thoughts?
  • Don't buy a Toyota - sorry ! 29 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Three Toyota dealers looked at it under warranty, all claimed it was fine, and refused to do anything. At 95K miles the car started making a sound like a load of nails from the front. Into Toyota Cambridge - a very helpful dealer, BTW, unlike the others I used, and they diagnosed a gearbox fault - probably worn bearing/s.
  • If only they were all as reliable as.... 23 May 2006 (Forum)
Japanese manufacturers have dominated a poll of the Top 100 most reliable used cars over the past decade. The list, compiled by independent mechanical breakdown insurer, Warranty Direct, found that every car in the Top 10, and 16 out of the Top 20, were Japanese models. The Honda Accord was at number one, with Honda also taking the 6th place with the the Civic and 8th with the CR-V.

  • Saab 93 Conv Bulkhead 22 Jun 2004 (Forum)
It is a ?98 example with 56,000 miles on the clock. 2.3l non turbo variant covered by the approved Saab used car warranty supplied with the car when we bought it from a main dealer late last year. When I went to pick up the car the informed me that the bulkhead on the passenger side of the car is starting to crack and needs attention at a cost of at least £550.

  • Car for other half 11 May 2022 (Forum)
Have a max of £25k to spend on a new car for the Mrs. Considering used prices new seems the way to go and we can wait 6 months for the car. Needs to be easy to park and an auto. Yaris is the favourite but the PEV 3 cylinder engine is very much unproven based on research.
  • Golf IV/Rear Wipers/Screenwash 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
FYI: I've just suffered the problem in HJ's Car By Car Breakdown' for Golf IV's; the rear window wash wipe has leaked and caused the ecu to believe that the tailgate is open, thus causing the alarm to go off (most inconveniently at 4am!) VW dealer has commented that VW will not meet warranty claims if VAG screen cleaner not used, so be warned (I've had the car for 60k miles/18months (now 86k)and have used Halfords double concentrated throughout before this has occured).
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - EPS warning light 23 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Yet another member of the EPS Club ! Recently bought a 2nd hand FSI S 1.6 (Jun 06) with 9,000 on the clock (an ex-mobility car) from a local (reputable) dealer in East Sussex. One month into use and apparently not covered by the dealer's 6 month's warranty, the EPS light goes on. Local VW main dealer in Tunbridge Wells (Motorline) most helpful and sympathetic but advise that major costs would be involved to replace the offending unit.
  • Clonking CV joints - X Reg Mondeo 16 Feb 2005 (Forum)
From a very early age, there has been a load 'clonking' when turning full lock. This was disgnosed as a faulty CV joint and replaced under warranty but the clonk returned within a few weeks (now just out of warranty!). I have learnt to live with this, as it only occurs on the relatively rare occasions when I have to use full lock, and doesn't appear to otherwise impact the car.
  • Skoda Disc Brakes 12 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Yesterday I went to the main dealer as my disc calliper "slider" on the front offside has partially seized and therefore the pad had worn away prematurely. It would go on but not retract fully. This is the second time that it has happened. The car is 2.5 yrs old and has a three-year warranty. It also came with free servicing, but that has all been used up. To the point, Skoda have refused to pay for the replacement disc pads and fitting stating that pads are a consumable and therefore not covered by the warranty.
  • 2005 Ford Mondeo Estate - Used Car Issue 25 Feb 2015 (Forum)
My issue is that there is a warranty on the car and the fault is covered but only up to the price of £500. I have recently read that if a used car gets a fault within the first 6 months of sale, it would be within my right to ask for the cost of repair to be covered due to the Sales of Goods Act 1979 due to the car being unfit for purpose.
  • Volvo XC60 - Clutch issue 28 Feb 2013 (Forum)
We purchased a used approved Volvo XC60 from a Volvo main dealer 10 months ago. The car had covered 14,600 miles. We thought buying from a main dealer would give us protection should any mechanical failures occur. The car has a 3 year of 60'000 mile manufacturers warranty which expires this September. 2 weeks ago we discovered the clutch was starting to slip (at 24'000 miles) and reported to our local dealer who advised that it was a grey area and that inspection would cost £600 if the damage to the clutch friction plates was deemed to be through abuse ie poor driving.

  • "Motor Servicing Direct" - Servicing of car ? 8 Aug 2013 (Forum)
--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Hi All, Has anyone ever used "Motor Servicing Direct" for the servicing of their car? I found them on the web, and was wondering how good/reliable they are, they don't appear in any search engine for independent reviews, which in itself is a little concerning.
  • Why so many 1-yr old cars for sale? 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Even if the owners find it is unsuitable for their lifestyle they could have waited more. But some cars are in the used market just after 3 months or less! Selling cars after 3 years (warranty expiry) is understandable but what on earth people pay thousands of pounds to buy a new car and then wants to sell before a year??
  • Mazda MX5 - Heated rear screen fault 1 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Hello all, this is my first post. My local Mazda agent is proposing to repair an open circuit screen heater element track using "electrically conductive paint". I have come across something similar to this before, but only for repairing low current items such as pcbs.  Will this be a proper fix? (The car is still under warranty.)
  • Renault Customer Service 17 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My daughter is having problems with her Clio and getting little satisfaction from a main dealer, despite car being still under warranty. We would like to send an e-mail to Renault UK but for the life of us can't find an e-mail address to send it to. Anyone got a contact e-mail address for customer services(!)
