  • Diagnose my Carlton's hot start problems 22 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Surprise surprise it refuses to start again - the new motor didn't solve the problem. So I started the car by shorting the motor - it starts fine, so its obviously not the motor, but something in the inhibitor circuit. After giving it a bit of thought I thought it might be switch on the autobox that stops it from starting in everything but Neutral and Park - could that be getting really hot and not be working?
  • VW Polo 1.4 2006 - Handbrake stuck in park 2 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Hi, The actual handbrake moves up and down (and as I do it the handbrake light turns on and off), however, no tension at all is released and the car stays in parked mode. I try to pull forward or reverse and the car just rears up. I read that it could be rust or perhaps engaging the handbrake too hard (I think it might be the latter to be honest if it is something to do with one of these two).
  • Traffic Violation in Italian Rental Car 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I know the ticket is not for illegal parking as we parked in a private car park. It also can't be for speeding as Florence isn't exactly know for its free flowing traffic! So, I must have contravened a traffic signal or something. Now, I have a couple of questions, if anyone would like to comment/answer: 1) Does anyone agree that the term 'Italian Traffic Regulations' is a bit ironic?!
  • Vauxhall Zafira Tourer - Will dealer have to repair new bought 2nd hand car 24 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I bought it about 6 weeks ago. all seemed ok...but I'm no mechanic...until on a hill to multi car park when I got my ticket from machine and found I couldn't put it into a gear. some how after 5 minutes of annoyed queue behind me I got it into gear but then same problem when trying to reverse. somehow I got it into gear and parked in bay and promptly rang seller.
  • first impressions of my new Volvo XC60 D4 Auto 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Satnav is simple to use and offers traffic reports and speed camera warnings. Cruise control is fine but I am not a fan really. Collision Avoidance works up to 17mph so you don't mow down people in car parks, over that it's up to you! Seats are very comfortable and there is lots of storage. The rear seats folded flat for when I collected some gardening supplies and the remotely operated tailgate is a godsend when carrying things.
  • penalty notice 28 Jan 2023 (Forum)
However, in December 2022 a penalty notice was placed on my car for not being registered and entitled to use the car park. When I bought this to the attention of my manager, he said that he would look into it. He came back a few days later with the answer that "My registration number had been entered wrongly, but ignore any proceeding action" A letter eventually arrived in January regarding illegal parking and for me to pay a £100 fine.
  • Car park bump - being charged 26 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I am gutted as I am a very careful driver, driving for 11 years and never had a single accident or speeding fine. I was reversing out of my car parking space uphill at a very cramped car park at a tesco express when I accidentally bumped the car parked behind me. My sister in law, who was also parked in the car park, got out of her car to see if there was any damage.
  • private parking- new law against motorists!!! 5 May 2011 (Forum)
Proposed new legislation will remove the protection under civil law we all now enjoy against the private parking parasites. Our own Government intend to remove this protection and replace it with new laws, under which the private parking parasites will be able to pursue the registered keeper and force them to reveal the driver, or face the fine themselves.
  • 2 parking tickets for the same offence in 24 hrs. 23 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I've just come back from London, overnight I parked in Lambeth and parked in a space which I'd been told by the person I was with was a mon-fri zone as it was a saturday night this would have been fine. Unfortunately I got back to the car on Sunday to discover to my horror the car had been ticketed.
  • Interesting experience at shopping centre 13 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The van had hazards on, and I noticed through the back windows that there were two cameras that appeared to have three lenses each aimed at the access road. When I'd parked I approached a police mobile unit sat in the carpark for the public to access and asked the officers if the van was anything to do with them. They said it was a traffic operation of some sort, so I asked why it was parked in such an inappropriate place and using hazards in a way that it shouldn't.
  • Road Manners 10 May 2001 (Forum)
I think driving habits have become a pretty accurate barometer of the lowering of social politeness generally in the UK. See the proliferation of road rage. Here's a fine example, which happened to me this morning: Appointment at the doctor for my daughter, car park full, one parking space being vacated, driver taking ages, me waiting patiently (no pun intended), obviously going to take his place.
  • Parking Ticket - UPDATE 15 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Below is a quick recap of the original post: I recently received a parking ticket for an offence that I believe I did not commit. My vehicle was parked in a residents parking bay where non-residents are granted a 2 hour parking window with a further no return within 2 hour restriction (hope that makes sense).
  • parking tickets 23 Feb 2007 (Forum)
There have been a few threads concerning parking tickets lately, so when i came across this "snippet" in the AOL Money section i thought it may provide a starting point if you are thinking you have been unjustly done. Parking tickets So many local authorities now benefit from money raised by parking tickets that the financial incentive to issue tickets can be strong.
  • 2012 Toyota Auris Hybrid - CarPlay unit no longer showing rear cam on screen? 11 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Its a small car, granted, but it doesnt have rear parking sensors, so 'she' can sometimes struggle parking the thing! Ive had the unit out, wiggled the ''from rear cam' jack, no difference!   Ive disconnected the rear cam, cleaned, and reconnected, still nothing on screen!
  • Ford Galaxy - An issue on a test drive 11 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hello all Well i went to available car and found a 2010 ford galaxy 2.0 tdci zetec , 50k miles 3 owners £10k fair price for a galaxy , all was good till test drive, its an automatic and idling in park was good, we gave it some and sounded as normal etc, only from PARK to DRIVE then it started to judder, low revs and then cuts out. Tried a few times and same thing, once you start moving though it works fine, got plenty of power, smooth gear changing etc , until you slow at a junction, it starts to judder slightly but doesnt cut out, just seems to do it when you first pop it in Drive ..
  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 2001 1.5dci - ABS light intermittantly on and off. 29 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I now use this as a second car and is used for any rough / commuting jobs. Have had a problem with the ABS light on the dash. Went to a festival a few weekends ago. Parking a nightmare and due to the lake of mud in car park, had to be towed out of field by a tractor. Resultant mud in the wheel arch, suspention mounts and brakes was severe. All has been cleaned now but the ABS warning light has been going on and off intermittently.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.8 petrol Exhaust Heat Shield & Hand Brake 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)
It failed on one of the checks only: When the handbrake is applied, it applies only 11% percent pull on the rear right hand wheel. 11% is below the legal minimum requirement. In other words the parking brake for the right handside rear wheel has a "low effort". The parking brake effort for the rear left hand wheel is fine. THANKS Roses are red, Violets are blue, How about adding the year/engine info, Like we have asked you to do!
  • Changing A 1998 Ford Fiesta Headlight 1 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I need to change the passenger side headlight bulb on my 1998 ford fiesta zetec 1.25. It turns on to parking light OK but when I turn it up to my main driving lights it stays on the parking light. If I switch on full beam then it works OK. Ive bought a new driving light bulb but I cant for the life of me figure out how to get to the headlight housing as there is all sorts of engine chassis and tubes etc in the way.
  • Citroen C3 - creaking power steering 5 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Ive recently had the power steering rack and motor replaced on my wifes C3 1.4 desire. The steering works fine now however when stationary if you turn the steering wheel lock to lock there is a creaking noise, the noise also occurs at low speeds ie manouvering of drive, parking etc. The sound appears to be coming from the steering rack area.
  • Bigger cars harder to drive???? 27 May 2007 (Forum)
By way of evidence, I've seen girls of 17, with no experience, learn to drive in an Army HGV 3 lorry, never taking a car test, and they managed fine. As Lud and others on the thread point out, many larger cars are far more relaxing, refined and just as easy to position, even in tight parking spaces.
