  • Check your tyre pressures... 4 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Checked bonnet fluids in wife's car today, all ok, walked around and looked at the tyres, all appeared ok, but despite cold weather, checked them with gauge anyway... o/s/r had just 12 psi - jack out, found nail through tread... Point is, tyre looked didn't look even slightly flat despite just 40% of pressure, so regular checking is vital...
  • Which 4X4 for 15K? 19 Nov 2003 (Forum)
After a string of company 4x4's (Discovery's, Landcruiser's and M-Class), my Dad has decided to opt out of the company car scheme due to escalating taxation costs. He is looking to spend around 15K and will cover around 20K miles per year.

  • Sudden Battery Death 17 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The battery, original 4 yr old FULMEN wouldn't take charge or deliver power. Kaput!! This isn't a friendly way to expire. In the 1970's , sudden failures of Lucas batteries were the talk, but I haven't heard of it since. Are we going to have another spate? CentaurHJ
  • Thoughts on the Audi A4 17 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My car is up for change and after two problem free Volvos I fancy a change and was thinking of an Audi A4 cab. The reviews wax lyrical, but the customer...
  • Primera aircon 18 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Recently, I have experienced water dripping from one of the air vents (in the passenger\'s floorwell) in my Primera, while the aircon is working. Also, the aircon has lost much of its efficiency. Whereas 6 months ago it was icy cold, now it is barely cooler than the ambient air. The car is 6 years old, and I know that aircon systems lose gas over time, but this does not explain the dripping water or the fairly sudden drop off in performance.
  • 306 leaking tailgate 7 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The tailgate of my ?98 306 leaks, and it?s getting a bit annoying. I don?t know where the water enters, but it appears through the rear seatbelt strap hole where it pools next to the parcel shelf before proceeding to flow down into the boot (via the parcel shelf speaker plug).
  • Volvo V70 Fan Problems. 15 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Does anybody know how to fix it without taking it to a expensive garage? Thanks. Post amended. Posting entirely in CAPS is thought to be bad manners (it\'s a way of expressing bad temper because it looks as if you\'re shouting).

  • Liquid air fresheners - warning 7 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The air freshener manufacturers warn against the aggressive effects of these oils - believe them. Cost £££'s to replace the switch assembly. :-( Oz (as was)
  • Starter motor prob? 6 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I am not sure if I should be concerned or not so would appreciate any advice that you might have. My wife\'s Golf Mk3 1.6 is to my untechnical mind being a bit funny. When you turn the ignition, everything seems a bit asmatic and doesn\'t seem to know whether it wants to fire up (or rather turn over)or not.

  • front wheel alignement 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Recently had the tracking done on my wife?s car and as often happens the steering wheel has become slightly misaligned. To correct this in the past I adjust the trackrod ends exactly the same on each end. I do this by marking it in relation to its rod and then adjusting one clockwise and one anti to the same degree.
  • Is gentle driving bad for an engine? 13 Dec 2002 (Forum)
In a similar vein to Mark(RLBS)'s thread on 'mollycoddling' cars, does anyone know if continually driving in a restrained manner can actually damage your car's engine? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that failure to 'exercise' the engine into the upper rev range can cause problems.

  • X5 mad! 29 Sep 2002 (Forum)
From what HJ's news report says, people are spending crazy money on X5's. Not the type of car I like myself but it looks like people really don't care if the car is imported or not so long as it has the toys (and from Holland, you generally get more toys as standard than youdo in the UK!).

  • Attn:R.ASPINAL re MINI 20 Aug 2002 (Forum)
If you're still getting a low speed clunk when setting off in the MINI, the unofficial MINI website explains it : http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6733 Basically, it could be the ABS self testing or auto central locking. If it isn't this and you've found the cause I'd be interested to know what it is. Lee. (Who's really going to be talking about MINIs a lot if he gets the chance!)
  • Audi & Castrol SLX OIl 26 Jun 2002 (Forum)
I see in the latest Audi Magazine that they are now suggesting oil change intervals (even with P.D. Diesel engines) of 30,000 miles using Castrol`s fully synthetic oil - SLX, and after initial trials have found no measurable wear on mechanicals. From personable experience with an Audi A4 2.8 V6, it burnt 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles, so over 30k the sump would be replenished several times anyway!!
