  • Blatant advertising 14 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Set in France, it was basically just a series of good car chases, however I noticed that just about every make of French and German car appeared at some point, Citroen XM, ZX, Xantia, Peugeot 205, 306, 405, 605, Renault Clio, Laguna along with BMW's, Audi's and VW, all vehicles getting close up shots of their noses and grills complete with manufacturers badges. I wonder how much the makers of the film were paid off the car companies for this advertising.
  • OBD II 10 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Since all new cars sold in the U.S after 1996 (I think), have to comply with Federal emmission control regs called OBD II (On-board Diagnostics Two), will a European model that is also sold in the U.S tell you that you haven't tightened the gas cap fully ? For example, does a Merc/BMW/Audi purchased in Germany have all the OBD II functions or are they deactivated on Euro-spec models? Kevin...
  • Gearbox oil 6 Nov 2001 (Forum)
1987C BMW 316 with 97k on the clock. Parked overnight in the garage. On my daily 22 mile drive to work, the gearbox is "tight" for the first few changes, which are between first and second gear. After that, as the car begins to warm up, the gearbox loosens and is very smooth.
  • Free Scrap 18 Sep 2001 (Forum)
My apologies for posting this, but I have a 'T' plate BMW 728. Last of the straight 6's without fuel injection. It has been standing for 18 months, but still starts, drives and stops. I need to get rid of it before Friday night. If someone wants to give me money for it that would be nice, but if it can go to a good home where its bits would help someone else, thats O.K.
  • Service Intervals 21 Jun 2001 (Forum)
(I know BMW drivers get a bit of stick on these pages but...) I bought a '92 518, 65k in January, had just been serviced with five green lights on the service indicator. Now 5 months and 6k later I've got two lights left and no sign of an oil change indicator light on.
  • Zenon lights- comments ? 19 Jun 2001 (Forum)
There appear to be auto-bulbs from Philips & Bosch that claim to be Zenon ( circa £20 ) from Halfords but I notice that Mercedes, BMW & VW want six or seven hundred quid for Zenons as an option. Now VW are offering "bi-Zenons" on the new Passatt just to add to my confusion There is a firm that advertises in VW Driver offering "real" Zenon gas lamp conversions but they want about £300.
  • High Mileage 3 Series 12 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I am looking at the possibility of buying a high Mileage (90k) BMW 318i New Shape (E46) for about £13k cash. Is this a sensible thing to do? Everything I read says the new 3 Series is rock solid, but I will be doing about 10k miles a year, whereas this car, according to the FSH, did 25k miles in one period of 4 months.

  • "Fun" car for retirement 24 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I'm guessing the imperatives are to try to get one where the timing belt etc has been changed recently and to check the roof mechanism/condition carefully? Also, I'd welcome any alternative suggestions (probably not a BMW or Audi as they just look like BMW's and Audi's, although our last fun car was a mk1 TT 225 coupe which we both loved...) Thanks in advance

  • Fun practical used car for £6-8k 14 May 2007 (Forum)
I really like the look of the Hyundai Coupe but am not convinced they're very good to drive. I'm not keen on the new MINI and don't see myself as a BMW driver, but would still like plenty of toys for the money (choice between a high-spec Mondeo and a poverty-spec BMW or Audi and I'd go for the Mondeo straight away; likewise I'd tend to go for a Seat Leon rather than VW Golf).
  • Need legal advice re: used car 23 May 2005 (Forum)
Ok lads bought a used BMW 330d 2 weeks ago from a large (40 car) trader. Was initially pleased with the car but it had 3 problems: 1. Front nearside headlight worked intermittently 2. Front nearside leak from waterjets (think it's related to the headlight spray nozzle) 3.
  • Diesel Auto Mid 2010s 26 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Initially looked at 2015 Mondeo but Powershift problems same with all cars using DSG autobox, then came across 2015 Mazda 6, auto box seems fine but 2.2 skyactiv engine has been awfully reviewed. BMW 320d.....not sure, seems timing chain issues and expensive to maintain. Anyone got any experience of 320d auto? Toyota or Honda might be the way to go but they seem to hold their value, therefore a bit out of my budget, all a bit of a minefield!!
  • Selling Faulty Car to an Online Car Buyer 26 Jan 2023 (Forum)
Our BMW 320d keeps throwing up an intermittent drivetrain warning, which hasn't been able to be dagnosed accurately. Rather than spend more money and time on it I just want to sell it on. Ideally I'd just trade it in but there's no car of interest near us and I don't want to risk driving more than 50 miles, so I'm considering trying one of these "we buy your car" type websites.

*A much modified Porsche 911 which, with Ruf being considered a manufacturer (like Alpina is to BMW), was for a time, the fastest production car in the world (faster than Porsche's own 959). watch Ford Focus Estate - Advice on engine size for Ford Focus Estate 25 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I’m now concerned the engine might be a bit on the lighter side to handle this kind of load. Our current car is a BMW 320d and that handles it no problem. Could anybody offer any advice on this? Should I be looking to upgrade the engine or not. Thanks in advance.
  • Deposit advice sought! 18 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Last weekend I paid a £400 deposit against a £4000 BMW 318d Estate (negotiated down from £4300) with a view to collecting it today. The dealer is now telling me that since paying the deposit, the car has a clutch problem & may need a new clutch & flywheel, he's offering to refund the deposit, but I get the impression he's now trying to wriggle out of the sale so that he can re-list it at a higher price to cover the cost of the work that will have to be done.
  • No front number plate a new trend? 24 May 2018 (Forum)
There are a number of clapped out Audi / BMWs in the area I live all driven with a complete disregard for any highway code and the front number plate on the dash board. Is this a new trend ? has this replaced  "fog lights on in broad day light"?
