  • Advice on Merc SL purchase 7 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I am considering buying a late 1970's early 80's Merc 300sl and would like to ask the forum what I should be looking for (good points and bad) and obtain the generally held views of the vehicle. This will be a weekend car used sparingly but would still like to buy the best possible on a budget of no more than 10K.

  • Settle an argument for me?! 29 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Had a 'discussion' at the weekend with an elderly relative regarding when her childhood village (Bramcote nr Nottingham) was split in two by the A52 bypass. I am sure this was in the late 60's she thought it was the 70's. As she is 'always right' I am relying on you good people to tell me when her back garden was tarmac'd? Thanks

  • headlamp dazzle 16 Feb 2002 (Forum)
O.K. John, please let`s have an honest answer- similar Q`s to this have been put before to others but with no straight reply. If it is against the law to dazzle people, why are some manufacturers getting away with it? I can`t put it more plainly than that-you know the score (or do you wear your shades whilst driving?

  • Mini Cooper S Convertible 2006 - Smoke coming from engine 13 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Hello! Wondering if anyone can help this damsel in distress?! I have a Mini Cooper S Convertible 2006 plate. The car was serviced and MOT’d on Thursday and all was fine. A few bits under the car were recommended to do but the mechanic told me not to bother. Friday I drove approx 100 miles and no issues.
  • MINI Cooper S - Car on HP, engine blew up! Still have a year left 16 Mar 2018 (Forum)
We bought a 09 mini Cooper s in 2015 and looked after it well, yesterday the engine was leaking out oil and there' a hole..spoke to mechanic who has said we need a new engine, cost in excess of 2k! My question is, we're over half way through our hp agreement which means we can hand the car back, how does it work with them charging us?
  • MINI Cooper + Cooper S - EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION 28 Apr 2016 (Forum)
My wife bought a 56-reg Cooper S six months ago.  It has now done 42,000 miles.  Twice it has made an odd noise and we have discovered that it is out of oil.  The first time our garage put in five litres less than the engine and oil filter holds!
  • Jaguar S-Type - ABS and handbrake fault lights 28 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Hi All, I have followed the site but now joined tobe able to ask the advice of the Forum. I am looking at a nice Jaguar S type. On the test drive the ABS and Brake light warning came up, though there seemed no problem with the handbrake operation, and I did not put the ABS to the test. Has anyone any advice as to the cause and possible costs of putting these right?
  • S Type 2.5 SE - Loss of power, why? 24 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I had a diagnostic test on my S Type and was told it had quite a few things that had to be repaired. It all started with a loss of power when driving up hill. I'm told I need two new cats, four Lambdas new plugs and ignition coils, all a result of engine backfire.
  • VW Lupo GTi - Recommendation for sporty city car 9 Feb 2015 (Forum)
A couple of years ago I was looking for a seven seater, and this forum recommended an S-Max, which I've been very happy with.  Let's see what you come up with this time! I'm looking for a small but fun car to use as a complement to the S-Max when I don't need to take out something so big.
  • Jaguar S-type 2.5 v6 - Automatic gearbox jokts 23 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hi, I have just bought a 03 plate s-type with 130k on the clock, everything seemed fine for around 100 miles but on the way home from work today as I accelerated joining the motor way from around 20-40mph it started to jolt quite badly, the traction control light blinked and it felt like I slid across the road, not sure weather this was just the jolting or sliding, I rang the garage I bought the car from and all they said is that it needs to warm up?
