  • Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - 03 2.0 - Disabling the alarm. 17 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Unfortunately our toddler posted about 10 coins into the CD slot and rendered it useless. We had a new radio (non factory) fitted but since then the Alarm has been playing up at regular intervals includng today where we simply cannot lock/alarm the car. Is there a way to disable the alarm? I have looked at the fuse box diagrams, but there isn't one marked Alarm that I can see.

  • Securing your car against a loan 7 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Securing your car against a loan and you can still use the car Heard this new type of loan on the radio today and really wondered how it works. Sorry if i is a dumb question but cant figure it out? Do they; Give you cash "payday type" loan up to value of car and you drive around in it and then hand it to them?
  • Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - An expensive successor..... 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My biggest gripe so far is that a sunroof in no longer an optional extra on the 'S' or 'SE' only on the tarty, sporty 'GT' However about £17.5k seems to be what I'll need to pay, which includes metallic paint, parking sensors and a steering wheel that will enable me to control my radio!! It may be, arguably, a much better car but my goodness you have certainly got to fork out the money and this is for a car that is supposed to be cheaper to manufacture.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - Spare Car 3 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The electirc windows dont work, motor, central locking locks you in the car. Tempreature gauge has a mind of its own, reads what it like when it likes. Radio seems to like to be seen but not heard, when it wishes. Exhaust sounds blown but passes its MOT every year. Key for the doors doesnt lock the doors, central locking. The car has a full service history, all but one main dealer.
  • DIY bio-diesel 2 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I missed HJ's announcement of the relaxation of duty on this sort of fuel for personal use (http://tinyurl.com/2zutd2 ), but it came up on the radio yesterday, together with a discussion on DIY conversion kits for spent oil from chippies. What particularly amused me was the admission by HMRC that the previous arrangement was costing them more to collect than it was grossing, so it's not really generosity on their part!
  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2002 DTi - Replacing odometer backlight bulb? 20 Apr 2008 (Forum)
After I'd picked myself up from the floor at the cost (At least £60) I thought I could do it myself. I have got a workshop manual (On CD) but it syas the sterring wheel, airbag radio and complete dashboard needs to come off. Can someone please advise if this is correct or is there an easier way for a novice like me to do it myself. Thanks, TrevTheBev
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1999 TDi - clock & stereo resetting in the morning 8 Mar 2008 (Forum)
VW Golf Mk3 TDi 1996-Recently when I turn the ignition on in the mornings,I noticed that the digital clock keeps resetting itself to 0:00,and the radio stations have all been lost, also its often hard to start on cold mornings and a couple of times there isnt enough power to start it and I have to use booster.Im guessing that its probably the battery thats dying,(its at least 6-7 years old)but before I shell out £50+ for a new one,is there anything else that could be causing this problem?
  • Rover 25 (1999 - 2005) - 2005 - Electrical fault 16 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Today, the N/S sidelights are not working, nor the alarm (light at any rate), nor are the dashboard dial lights. The warning lights are OK, ditto the clock, radio and everything else. Before I book it into a garage, does anyone have any ideas? Could it be something as simple as a fuse? If relevant, the car's 3 years old (and has recently had a full service.......).
  • Effects of electical items on your fuel economy 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Now I know that the air con compressor will increase fuel consumption but would you really notice extra fuel being used by using your heater? Lights? Rear window demister? Etc? What about using the radio? I'm not condoning any of this, just want to know if there is a gain that is measurable. I would haev thought it would haev been too small to measure. Thanks
  • Dealer Delivery Costs for New Cars 9 Aug 2007 (Forum)
And the reason for finding out I'd like the Mazda6 iPOD connector which is about £180 installed. Installation requires not just the removal of the radio but a lot of the centre dashboard, ashtray, gear lever gaiter etc. So I might cheekily say I'll collect the car if they give me a cheap/free iPOD connector. They're willing to think about it anyway ;-)
  • Fabric roofs and chamois 11 Apr 2007 (Forum)
(I realise not to use the chamois on the roof, btw!) Happy Easter to all Lee -- He\'s a cheeky wind-up scamster and he\'s on the radio....
  • 'Supercharging' screenwash 25 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Listening to the radio the other day, I hear that we are in for a particularly cold winter. Bearing in mind that I use ready-mixed screenwash and I have substantial quantities of it (suitable for temperatures down to -7), I was wondering about adding a quantity of Methylated Spirits or alcohol to the screenwash reservoir the night before a 'cold snap' as they say, in order to give the fluid some extra anti-icing properties.
  • Suspension specialist north London 11 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Also - while we're on the subject it's a reshaped end of 99 'S' model by the way - it's got a very stupid red screen which gives info about the radio/cassette and heating/fan which turns itself on all the time so we have to remove a fuse from under the steering wheel whenever we get out! I understand it may be a short in a metal box (stop me if I am getting too technical) behind the screen, so an electrics specialist would be useful too!
  • Fines for idling engines 11 Jul 2006 (Forum)
One of the councils up here are running adverts on the radio saying the usual, how bad it is for the environment etc if you leave your car engine running whilst parked up, so you will now be fined if caught doing this. But how bad exactly is it? If you are sitting stationery at side of road and a car drives past at 30mph who is polluting the most?
  • £8K repair bill. Blame the dog? 31 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Johnny moved into the passenger seat to prise him free but Harvey jumped across and hit the accelerator pedal. The £70,000 car ploughed into a skip near the Capital Radio host's South London home. Johnny said: "The funniest part was having to explain to my insurers. I couldn't make a claim as Harvey wasn't a named driver on the policy."" How could this have happened?
  • Growing consumer debt 6 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Heard an item on the radio recently which quite surprised me. Apparently consumer borrowing in the UK is growing by £1m every four minutes - much of borrowed to spend on cars. This item reminded of an incident recently when I was selling a Mercedes (a W202).
  • Mr. Lucky 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Traffic report slow between 14 and 23. Can see it stationary up the hill as I glide off on to an empty M40. Here on the radio of big problems 6 to 8 northbound so glad I chose the M40. Take the new dual carriage A43 down to my destination. Gliding under the M1 at 15a I see it is at a standstill northbound as well. Nightmare day for the motorways avoided by me by more luck than judgement.
  • Speeding (mostly excl cameras) XXVI 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
f=2&t=29067 ....I put forward the argument that the government would sneak in satellite tracking by adding it to motoring offenders cars and then rolling it out to other people as either a carrot (offenders)or a stick (discounts on insurance), then soon everyone would have to have it. Well I almost fell of my chair this morning, less than a week later, when LBC Radio news said that the government was proposing "tracking repeat speeding offenders cars". Us motorists, should get together to resist moves like this, as our rights are being gradually eroded as we sleep walk to complete control of our motoring lives.
