Electric & Hybrid Cars 12 May 2012 (Forum)
For the electric only cars, I found the whole concept of recharging interesting. The charge point for the Leaf is under a flap in the bonnet, and the charging lead is not locked to the car and can just be pulled out. So if charging at home you need to be able to park the car next to your house so you can run a power lead to the car, and it obviously needs to be secure enough that you can be happy that someone isn't going to unplug it for a laugh. -

Cars with automatic gearboxes - ...fuel costs up, time to teach 'pulse and glide'? 18 Jul 2021 (Forum)
The technique pulse and glide was born during WORLD WAR II when the greatest effective method in a war is to ambush fuel and ration supply convoys i.e trucks that was sent to refuel tanks, armored vehicles and troop transport vehicles. Soldiers improvised and learned to use techniques the lead to fuel rationing and effectively increasing the Mpg's. I was taught a modified version of pulse and glide technique. and I have using pulse and glide ever sense 1996. Which is PULSE= steady footing on that gas pedal and never I never repeat going above 2000 rpms ( keep your cool) GLIDE= coasting in neutral on all declines... -
Any - Brother and law retirement car 25 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Still, I said I'll ask here as I am not sure if it will be a fair comparison seeing that the Japanese motors are hybrids while the little Romanian has a small turbo engine that might be under more stress leading to a shorter life. -
Citroen relay - Citroen relay 2015 2.2l p0016 dtc 17 Jun 2021 (Forum)
A couple of weeks ago I had a loss of power and am struggling to get up hills or get the revs over 2.5/3k but otherwise the vans drivable (no check engine light etc), I’m convinced that there are no more air leaks, I have disconnected the dpf (but not the pre cat) without change, I decided to buy a Lexia 3 last week which gave me a couple of codes relating to the maf so I replaced the earth strap and put the old maf sensor back in which cleared these It also gave me a camshaft sensor signal error code so I replaced that which lead to the p0016 62 error that I currently have, I replaced the camshaft sensor with the old one and got the original error back so I replaced it with another new one and have the p0016 again, I have also now replaced the crankshaft sensor but still have the p0016 error. -
Volkswagen Polo - MK2F Polo Parade Coupe 1994 M reg starting problems 30 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Lost power again not suddenly but as driving it got worse and now won't run for longer than a couple of seconds. Replaced ignition leads, spark plugs, distributor rotor arm. Removed throttle body again and cleaned out again. Still not working. Checked compression and all readings are good/normal. It won't start with all spark plugs in (at least won't start and run for any length of time more than a few seconds) but if you remove one (any one) and leave three in it will start and tick over. -
Peugeot 307 SW - Left rear indicator failure - electrical problem 27 Jan 2021 (Forum)
A collegue explained that this is an artifact of a very sensitive multimeter and a high impendane current leak somewhere. When I put a 10k resistor across the multimeter leads the voltage on all the pins dropped to <2V. I'll call that "off". When indicator is on one pin (extreme edge, furthesr from the earth) gives >10V, I'll call that "on". On the bad left side the indicator pin does not give voltage. -
Chrysler Voyager 2.5l diesel manual - uK - Chrysler Voyager wont start - Immobiliser? 28 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Took the fuses out again and replaced did all the other bits and no joy Left overnight - still light on so removed fuses and disconnected negative lead (as read on other forum - thanks Merlin Tec some great advice) back and forth like this and lock / unlock a few times, finally run, then cut out again. I've removed the heater panel as mentioned by Merlin Tec and checked the PIN connector and all looks fine - not able to start with the plug out, checked all connections and replaced - still nothing It's clearly an immobiliser issue - where is it on a 2002 model? -

Nissan S Cargo 1990 - 1990 Nissan not starting 17 Sep 2018 (Forum)
It was running when I drove it into my unit which was a couple of months ago, when I say it was running, it was stuttering when it got hot (say after an hour of driving) but once I left it for 30 minutes it would drive fine again. On that basis I wanted to fix the issue, I replaced the leads, plugs, coil, distributor cap, rotor arm, distributor module, air filter and welded the back box on the exhaust (can't get a new one anywhere, will have to get a custom one made at some point). Once I did all that it was still starting. -

How low can you go? 26 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I maintain them and regularly check them to ensure safety but accept minor faults as part of the fun and accept that any major faults will lead to the scrappy. I've managed in recent years to run a 52 plate Astra 1.6SXi bought for £1,000, spent £300 on repairs and a service then sold for £1,100 a year later. Loss £200 for the year. Mitsubishi Carisma 1.9 DID bought for £700, spent around £400 over the year and sold for £1,000. -
2006 VW Polo 1.2 E - Volkswagen Polo 1.2 Misfiring 23 Jul 2016 (Forum)
So I took it to my local garage and he changed out a coil pack. Simple, problem solved? Sadly not. The same issues carried on which lead me to believe that the car needs a service and injector clean out. Unfortunately £100 and a bottle of Techron later we have not progressed anywhere. So I thought "hey maybe its another coil pack", nope. -
Peugeot 206 1.4L Look 8v petrol. - Very rough idle on start up!!!!! 14 Mar 2016 (Forum)

Ford Focus - Validity of driveway diagnosis vs dealer? 12 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I thought this strange as I would have thought that an ignition coil problem would have resulted in a more continuous misfire. They replace the coil (and plugs, but NOT LEADS). Now, less than two months later, it has developed a very serious misfire (any cylinder I think, but not sure). There is now a RED warning light that apparently means (Message Center (urgent)).
