Rover 25 1.4 - Cam Carrier oil leak 10 Mar 2013 (Forum)
My wifes car has an oil leak somewhere around the top right of the engine. It's rather dirty (there's no where near me that does steam cleaning - grr!), but I thought it was coming from the cam cover so I had that off and reassembled with Hermitite Red. -
Renault Clio II Petrol - 16 V Extreme 53 - Renault Clio - loss of power, exhaust popping 31 Aug 2011 (Forum)
In two weeks time I have to travel to a different area for work (considerably more than I do now) or be made redundant. Without a car it will prove extremely difficult. I will therefore be extremely grateful if anyone could offer me any help. Thankyou in advance for reading this post and your help. -

Any - Chips Away - good experience 17 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I know it is a franchise, but in case of Richard, I can whole heartedly recommend him to anyone in the herts area, mind you he's based in Essex so probably covers a pretty wide region. Neighbour is also very happy with the work done there, in fact I learned neighbour has used him before. Guy -
Vauxhall Corsa C - Corsa chain tensioner 25 Jul 2010 (Forum)
This weekend took it for it's first long trip motorway speeds since new chain, after about 30 mins of 65 mph the old chain rattle came back as if the tensioner had stopped working! when we stopped this continued at tickover, left car for a hour to go shopping and when we returned the loose chain noise( bit like a diesel), had stopped , only to resume about 20 mins into the homeward journey. When back home checked oil was ok, and took rocker cover off top off the chain was tight. -
Rover - P6 3500 / 3500S 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
However, at some point, I'd like another - I was very happy with mine - and wondered if there were any particular problems to highlight. I knew someone who worked for British Aerospace who cut a hole in the boot of his then covered it with a panel fixed down with fasteners only found elsewhere in the Harrier - this made working on the brakes much easier, but I never got round to doing the same to mine. What is parts availability like nowadays? -
Vauxhall Astra H estate (2004 - 2009) - What's Best Way To Repair Slight Body Damage ? 22 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I'm ashamed to say that I've made .********** The colour of the car is silver lightning so I bought silver lightning touch up paint which looks to be a slighty different shade, and the paint it seams to be a bit too thick and blobby so I can't get a thin smooth coat. -
Replacing wheel cylinder (all vehicles) 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Just as important, would it affect the brake balance (MOT testable), having one new one and one old one? Then the shoes. Of course on one side they've been covered with brake fluid. I will clean up the drum with brake cleaner (and garages have done this for me with previous cars so I presume it's standard practice). Can this not be done with the (otherwise good-as-new) shoes? -
4x4 bubble - will it burst? 7 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have some interest in this... I am currently living overseas, and, through my job, can buy and export one car (right hand drive) a year tax free and with a reasonable discount on top. Unfortunately I don't earn enough to keep something such as a ML for ever, but, at the moment, can reasonably expect to cover my costs (including insurance etc) if I sell it back in the UK after a year (I am not allowed to sell any sooner) - in effect, getting free motoring less fuel, which is also a lot cheaper here than in the UK! -
About to buy a new Volvo? 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
If I had been able to use this scheme above as well I would have got a further £1,283 off (7.5%) and £500 for the metallic paint i.e saving a further £1,783. This would have made a £22,000 car £15,317 new, from a dealer with 3 year warranty, free RAC cover, etc. You will not find a 1 year old Diesel S60 at a dealer for anything like as cheap, and this makes it a terrific bargain for those of you considering a BMW 3, Merc C Class, Audi A4 or even a Volvo S40! -
MR2 Mk2 misfire/hesitation. 17 Jan 2003 (Forum)
She has just paid out £650 for just about every gasket in the engine to be replaced. Exhaust and inlet manifold, rocker cover gaskets, head gasket plus some other gasket l never heard of. Everything's fine, regained the smoothness and power - except the primary reason she put the car in for in the first place: hesitation/misfire under acceleration. -
Unsure where I stand legally. Please help! 13 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Instead he said he would take the car and have it repaired, and, in all fairness, gave us a car for the duration of him keeping the car we bought originally. He said it would be a quick job and we would have the car back in a few days. After about two weeks, we threatened the dealer to court as we wanted a refund, which again was refused, and were fed up of the lies and waiting for our car. -
Ford Fiesta 2003 1.4 tdci zetec - Legal rights on dissatisfied purchase 1 Nov 2010 (Forum)
At the very least I would like to take the car to a main dealer to get a full check and service as I have no confidence that it has been properly maintained and I don't know where I stand legally if the outcome is that the car needs any work, as well as who would cover the cost of the actual service/ check. -
Peugeot 206 - Loss of power and EML with new air filter 9 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I've got a weird problem with my car, its a 1.4 HDi, same engine as the Ford 1.4 TDCi. I changed the air filter on it and upon driving it the EML came on and the further you push the pedal down the more the engine keeps refusing to rev whilst driving. -
BMW 3 Series Coupe - The AA Warranty sold by The Cargiant 27 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Although I didn't intend to buy a warranty with it, the sales guy persuaded me vigorously by showing a leaflet saying things such as, this a very transparent high quality warranty governed by the Cargiant safeguarding and it is only administered by the AA and if the car develop any fault, such as engine or transmission or fuel system etc. they will deal with it directly and so on... Now after about six months the car has developed some fault to do with the fuel system and they refuse to pay. -
Toyota Previa 2.0 D4d - Coolant in sump?!? 19 Apr 2012 (Forum)
However over the weekend cruising along at 70mph on motorway, the car just stalled (no smoke, no warning lights, no buzzers, no prior indication anything was wrong!) coasted to hard shoulder , and tried to start it once and it would go… long story short, the car was recovered by the "AA" to and independent garage due to where we were, who have indicated the engine has locked solid and on investigation they have found there is "3-4 litres" of coolant in the oil sump which in their words "sorry, your gunna need a new engine mate"…?!? -
BMW 320D SPORT 2004 - BMW 320D Does Dual Mass Flywheel needs replacing? 6 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hi All, My car has been making a strange noise for about the past 40,000 miles when releasing the clutch in Neutral. I have been told this is the clutch release bearing and is nothing to worry about (Which seems to be true as I have covered 40,000 miles with no problems since the noise began) Anyway a week ago I felt like the clutch was slipping, it only happen twice within about 10 mins so I presumed the clutch would need replacing as I've done 128k on the original clutch. -
Focus 1.8 TDCI glow plug light flashing 29 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I have read reports of a TSB detailing problems of the nature i am having suggesting the fuel pump is to blame. I have since returned the car to the dealership and they called to say that the problem lies in the fuel rail and it will cost in excess of £600 to get fixed. I suggested that i have had an ongoing issue with the vehicle and not prepared to pay for the repair and it should be covered by warranty as the fuel problems i have had in the past have never been fixed. -
How to drive an autobox 15 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Answering one guy, HJ once again insisted that left-foot braking is best when driving an automatic because, as I understood it, autos cover more ground during an emergency stop situation as the drive is not disconnected instantly and a left foot straight on the brake is faster than moving the right foot from the accelerator to the brake. -
Primera Starting problem 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Sunday lunchtime I started it and moved it, making sure I ran it for a while, knowing what these Cat equiped cars can be like to re-start after a 30-60 second run. Sunday night my mum went to go out and it just wouldn't start, not even trying to fire, just a sound of an engine turning over very fast (Chain cam luckily).
