  • FIAT 500 4 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Think it might well rival the MINI for cuteness, or it should do anyway! Lee -- There\'s no place like 127.0.0.1
  • TVR Chimera dimensions 30 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Been googling round for ages and had no luck. Yes I'm trying to find out if one would fit in my garage, MR2's a tight fit but still usable with the mirrors folded in, garage doors are 202cm at their narrowest, rest of garage is 220cm ish (with carpet along the walls!). Length should be ok, got 430cm to play with without even taking out the work bench.
  • Pinto valve gear 17 May 2006 (Forum)
Is and injected 1983 Pinto engine in a Ford Scorpio provided with hydraulic tappets? My hostess's example here in the mountains of S. Spain sounds tappety at 197k kilometres. Does it need its clearances adjusted, or have the hydraulic tappets worn out? Fast response wd be much appreciated. Lud
  • Fixing mk4 fiesta mirror 18 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have broken the mounting clip/fixing for a mk4 fiesta n/s door mirror. The mirror has a colour coded 'shell' which is undamaged. I have seen plain black mirrors for a reasonable price on e-bay and I am wondering if anyone can give me a few tips on changing the outer shells over so that a plain black mirror can be changed to match the coloured one the car already has.
  • Rover 75 diesel engines 16 Apr 2006 (Forum)
And, why does the same engine produce 150HP in a BMW, again with nothing more than the computer code changed? I reckon the lacklustre performance of the CDT diesel in the 75's crippled their sales. Was this a restriction placed upon Rover by BMW, who didn't want their share of the powerful diesel market infringed upon?
  • MOT Queries... 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I was under the impression that re-testing is free if you take the car back to the testing centre on the same day, having got the problem/s rectified. I've just been told by Nationwide Autocentre that there isn't a free retest anymore. Is this the case? Also, not being mechanically minded, is there anything to look out and rectify before my car (1999 Mazda 323) goes in for its MOT?
  • New MOT and reminders 22 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I forgot to renew my MOT for about 10 days due to simple human error, but in the eyes of plod I'm a criminal. I know this would incur a cost, but the billions of £s in duty could go someway towards that.
  • Toyota Yaris Advice 16 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have got £4,000 approximately to spend on a Toyota Yaris. Researching HJ?s car by car breakdown and previous posts I believe I want a 2003 T3 or T spirit 1.3 I am not sure about 3 or 5 doors. Versos seem extremely rare. Are they worth pursuing? Which model is easier to sell?
  • Best way to remove an air lock? 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi folks, quick question: What?s the best method to get rid of an air lock? The Polo (see profile) has had an antifreeze change recently, but they didn't turn the heater control to 'hot' (thus opening the water tap to the heater matrix) and I think there is an air lock.
  • BMW heating problem 1 Mar 2006 (Forum)
the heating on my 5 series (S reg) has just packed up. I think it might be that the fans have failed as even on max I cannot get any airflow from the fans except on front windscreen demister, and even then it is cold The question is, does anyone know if this is likely to be an expensive repair job, or could it be quite simple?
  • Car Inspection Service 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Anyone know a car inspection service operating in Edinburgh operating at reasonable cost ? I tried to phone two listed in HJ?s FAQs (D.S. Crawford & Carscan) but the numbers are unobtainable. I?m looking for a small hatch for my daughter and I?ve just had a Micra inspected by the RAC, which I rejected because of a poor accident repair.
  • Older Drivers 17 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Living as i do in Bournemouth we have probably more elder rivers than other places (I am one-mid 70's). I do think we should be made to take a simple test to ensure we are still able to drive effectively. Filling in the form to say we are fit in the licence application is really not enough. How many of us has read the Highway Code since we passed our test(1952 i my case).
  • Nissan Anti Theft System 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I recently bought a 1997 Nissan Micra with an odd/incomplete set of locks. I can get a complete set from a scrapyard for £50. However I've been told...
  • Nissan Almera 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I'm looking at getting an Almera for my girlfiend. I'm willing to spend around £4,500 and have found plenty of low mileage 2003 1.5 S versions with less than 40k miles. I know it's not exciting but reading through various reviews it's solidly reliable and has a generous boot - it will need to take a pram and a decent amount of shopping.

  • Shell Optimax 23 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The Lady in the shop explained that the recent fire at the oil refinery has had a severe impact on supplies of optimax. Shell?s policy is to supply the limited stocks available only to their larger filling stations. Clearly my local one is not deemed as being larger enough, cannot see it myself; they are always rushed off their feet when I go in.
  • VW Golf Bonnet release cable snapped 20 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hello all I have an S reg 1998 VW golf and this morning i went out to open the bonnet and the cable snapped. I have stipped out the handle inside the car, this is fine but the whole cable pulls through the bulkhead. I guess the cable has snapped on the bonnet catch itself.

  • Leasing/contract hire 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
It´s my first time on the forum for a while (no home internet) so pardon me if I ask a silly question! Where are the links to contact hire/leasing offers? My son-in-law may well be looking to acquire a Shogun or Landcruiser for his business & I suggested a trip to hj.co.uk, only to recv. a text saying "can´t find ém"!
