Oil usage for '99 VW Golf 1.8T? 20 Aug 2006 (Forum)
My car's never needed any more than 2 litres of oil between 10k services before. I took my car back to VW as I wanted them to check out a noise that's only started since they replaced the front anti roll bar bushes, and mentioned I wasn't too happy about there being no oil in the car too. -
New Company Car Time! Thoughts? 25 Nov 2005 (Forum)
There were raised eyebrows at Alfa, so I guess thats a non starter - I ought to be keeping these guys happy till we've established a relationship! My personal requirements are: * Comfortable - I'm covering everything south of Stafford so expect up to 50k/year. * Reliable! I've no desire to be on the side of the M5 in a snow storm in my best suit! * Fairly quick - not looking for Impreza quick, but enough to have a play when the mood takes me. * Firm yet not harsh - had a Passat Sport until recently (53 plate so older shape)...seemed harsh with no real benefit in the twisty stuff * Wont cost the earth in Tax, but dont mind paying a little extra for the right car. -
Renault Clio - Second Hand Car - Dealer Warranty Fraud 7 Sep 2023 (Forum)
I recently purchased a used car from a dealership in the Greater London area. When I arrived to collect the car it was filthy and I had to wait for it to be valeted prior to driving away (I should have known from that moment to walk away). -
Cheapo Cars (Again) - The Philosophy 7 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Unfortunately I had to reject the car (old corrosion on roof) and the case went to the Financial Ombudsman. Ultimately, in late September 2020 I 'won' - the finance company (LBG) paid me my deposit (+ 8% interest), my monthly payments less one (to cover the 900 miles I'd driven the car) and £75 for 'biggeration'. -
Volvo V40 phase 1, 2.0 Xi - Is it about time I parted company with:- 14 Jun 2011 (Forum)
thing is the cars now got the odd knock from the rear suspension, another from the front, 2 of the seats have small 1" splits in the leather (leatherish.!!!!...repaired with glue) and when the cars been left over night i get a strange grooonching noise from the front passenger side of the car when pulling away.... -
New Car Donation Website 19 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My motivation for setting the service up stems from a belief that charities in this country are overlooking a fantastic opportunity to generate income. In the USA the practise of car donation is very common and every year, hundreds of thousands of vehicles are given away. In the UK however, car donation is pretty much non-existent, despite the existence of many underused and/or unwanted cars. -
Vehicle Excise Duty - Motorist entrapment 14 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Colour-coded by month, you’d tear round the perforations and insert them in a little PVC sleeve on the inside of your windscreen. It was a selling point if your new car had 11 months to run, but if your vehicle excise duty had expired (or was about to), you’d be straight down the post office to renew, lest a eagle-eyed PC noticed the wrong colour was showing. -
Ford Mondeo Estate - Taxing a car on the green slip 13 Oct 2013 (Forum)
In the 90s I ran a car showroom so any cars I purchased for resale I drove on trade plates. Before I started the garage though, I registered every car I bought for resale in my own name and taxed each car. This caused quite a delay in turning around stock as occasionally, back then, it took 6 weeks to receive the new log book in my name. -
Toyota Yaris 66 reg - Rear bumper scuff 3 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I will see what Chipsaway have to say but may take it it my local dealer for a quote as well. That should frighten him! any advice anybody has? I think I have covered my options but is there anything else you would suggest? Many thanks -
Mazda cx3 - Third Mazda service and MOT 10 Feb 2021 (Forum)
The obvious solution is to have my MOT done locally or wherever sometime before end of month (march),wait until I have moved then instruct the dealership in my new location to collect the car, service it and return it . That is if they offer vehicle collection/delivery and are happy to extend the service interval for a month or 3. I'll try and find out if they do. Another thought--perhaps I should just forget about the idea of the paid for third service in my current location, just have an MOT done--then have a short "3rd" ( oil change essential) service done by a specialist non dealer in my new location-who naturally won't do it for free.Even if I postponed a 3rd service till the summer /early autumn--I doubt if i would have covered more than 5000 miles since march 2020. -
VW Golf GT Diesel - VW Customer Service - RNS 510 Satnav unit failure 23 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I have gone with the replacement as a duff RNS 510 would obviously affect resale value of the car - but I feel less than happy with VW quality and reliability - the vehicle itself has covered only 27K miles since new but had two reasonably major issues within warranty, relating to the DPF filter and the need to replace the secondary coolant pump. -
Rover 25 1.4 - Cam Carrier oil leak 10 Mar 2013 (Forum)
My wifes car has an oil leak somewhere around the top right of the engine. It's rather dirty (there's no where near me that does steam cleaning - grr!), but I thought it was coming from the cam cover so I had that off and reassembled with Hermitite Red. -
Renault Clio II Petrol - 16 V Extreme 53 - Renault Clio - loss of power, exhaust popping 31 Aug 2011 (Forum)
In two weeks time I have to travel to a different area for work (considerably more than I do now) or be made redundant. Without a car it will prove extremely difficult. I will therefore be extremely grateful if anyone could offer me any help. Thankyou in advance for reading this post and your help. -

Any - Chips Away - good experience 17 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I know it is a franchise, but in case of Richard, I can whole heartedly recommend him to anyone in the herts area, mind you he's based in Essex so probably covers a pretty wide region. Neighbour is also very happy with the work done there, in fact I learned neighbour has used him before. Guy -
Vauxhall Corsa C - Corsa chain tensioner 25 Jul 2010 (Forum)
This weekend took it for it's first long trip motorway speeds since new chain, after about 30 mins of 65 mph the old chain rattle came back as if the tensioner had stopped working! when we stopped this continued at tickover, left car for a hour to go shopping and when we returned the loose chain noise( bit like a diesel), had stopped , only to resume about 20 mins into the homeward journey. When back home checked oil was ok, and took rocker cover off top off the chain was tight. -
Rover - P6 3500 / 3500S 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
However, at some point, I'd like another - I was very happy with mine - and wondered if there were any particular problems to highlight. I knew someone who worked for British Aerospace who cut a hole in the boot of his then covered it with a panel fixed down with fasteners only found elsewhere in the Harrier - this made working on the brakes much easier, but I never got round to doing the same to mine. What is parts availability like nowadays? -
Vauxhall Astra H estate (2004 - 2009) - What's Best Way To Repair Slight Body Damage ? 22 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I'm ashamed to say that I've made .********** The colour of the car is silver lightning so I bought silver lightning touch up paint which looks to be a slighty different shade, and the paint it seams to be a bit too thick and blobby so I can't get a thin smooth coat. -
Replacing wheel cylinder (all vehicles) 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Just as important, would it affect the brake balance (MOT testable), having one new one and one old one? Then the shoes. Of course on one side they've been covered with brake fluid. I will clean up the drum with brake cleaner (and garages have done this for me with previous cars so I presume it's standard practice). Can this not be done with the (otherwise good-as-new) shoes? -
4x4 bubble - will it burst? 7 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have some interest in this... I am currently living overseas, and, through my job, can buy and export one car (right hand drive) a year tax free and with a reasonable discount on top. Unfortunately I don't earn enough to keep something such as a ML for ever, but, at the moment, can reasonably expect to cover my costs (including insurance etc) if I sell it back in the UK after a year (I am not allowed to sell any sooner) - in effect, getting free motoring less fuel, which is also a lot cheaper here than in the UK!
