  • Manual Gearbox oil change - Honda Civic 14 May 2007 (Forum)
Halfords only seems to sell there own brand 80W90, and a quick look at the Castol site, suggests SMX-S which is a Fully synthetic SAE 75W-85. Does anyone know what is recommended, and where can I find it? or should I stick with the Honda Branded stuff? Regards
  • Honda or Vauxhall? 22 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I expect these to be about the same price (£495): 1995 M Vauxhall Cavalier 2ltr GLSi 5 door hatch back met green e/windows s/roof c/lock tow bar 11mo. MOT 5mo. tax. 1995 2.2 Automatic Honda Accord Estate (Aerodeck?), leather , air cond. 5mo. MOT, 10mo. tax. Which might be the better bet, from the point of view of running costs, potential longevity, repairability, style?
  • 80 grand merc' gone...how? 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
OK, a chauffeur leaves the £80k Merc S class with all the kit and caboodle on his drive overnight, ready for an early start next day. In the morning, the car has gone. Has sophisticated anti theft alarm, coded keys, whatever. No one heard a thing.
  • Pug 106 Coolant Temperature Light coming 16 Feb 2007 (Forum)
My 1998 1.4 106's coolant temperature warning light is coming on after 2 or 3 miles but there is no evidence of overheating. The coolant level is ok and when I let the car tickover for 10 mins or so the coolant warning light came on well before the cooling fans did suggesting that the car is not getting too hot.
  • Fiesta Lower Arm Suspension 9 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Fiesta MK3. I'm going to change the O/S/F lower suspension arm complete with ball joint. In order to separate the ball joint do I need to lever the hub up a bit allowing the lower arm to drop so that the ball joint spindle can clear the spindle carrier ?
  • Whats the most perfect car youve driven? 13 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I have to say a late 90's XJR in dark blue with grey interior and that black wood trim. Just the classiest, most comfortable, sublime car ive ever driven. Made me want one instantly. Much better looking than the latest model too.
  • Beware! Car recovery abroad. Read first 18 Nov 2006 (Forum)
In case you have not read this in the DT travel Q & A s "We were left stranded and out of pocket after a motorway crash" Worth reading the item below. It is easy to think "I am fully insured" but how do you deal with the "panic" situation of an unusable vehicle and a family to get home etc.
  • Focus - changing a headlamp bulb 23 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I'm a constant moaner about duff lights but discovered this evening that the n/s dip bulb on SWMBO's Focus was dead. I want to get onto the case in the morning and I've sussed that there is some instruction in the 'Owners's Guide'. After recent posts about difficulties in changing bulbs, have I got trouble ahead - or is it as easy as a quick glance at the 'Guide' seems to suggest?
  • What Would you have done? 13 Oct 2006 (Forum)
M6 S/bound yesterday round Stafford. I was a passenger and we were slack-jawed at the behaviour of a driver of a transit following a car that was obviously not going fast enough for his liking as he was less than 10 foot off his bumper doing about 86-90mph.
  • Fuel Duty Escalator Again? 2 Sep 2006 (Forum)
You will, for example, see the reintroduction of a fuel duty escalator, I'm quite sure," Mr Norris told BBC Radio 4's World at One." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/09/01/ntory01.xml Kevin...
  • Rear Leg Room 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I currently have a Volvo V70 S-reg estate. However, I have one son over six feet tall and another one catching him up and they are starting to want more leg room than the car provides, especially since my husband and I are tall too.
  • Corruption in German Car Making 6 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Reading this am's Sunday T***s - a German prosecutor has described the payment of bribes to people within the VW / Audi purchasing group as normal ! The investigation suggest that this is spreading to BMW and also PSA. VW chairman is suggesting this practice is inflating the cost of supply contracts and damaging the firm financially. ------------------------------------------------------- I think I have a solution for him - market the car as desirable with good image (see recent thread from akr) and inflate the price to cover the costs !!!!!!!!
  • Focus 4 x 4 a cracker 1 Aug 2006 (Forum)
As someone who was contemplating buying the forthcoming Honda CRV, which is due to be launched later this year, if the preview pictures are to be believed, the thing is so ugly, there is no way I will be buying one. What a pleasant surprise however to see this week`s Auto Express release of pictures of the forthcoming Focus 4 x 4, - if it performs only half as well as it looks, it should be IMHO be a real cracker.!!!!!! www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/201947/this_weeks_auto_express.html

  • TVR Chimera dimensions 30 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Been googling round for ages and had no luck. Yes I'm trying to find out if one would fit in my garage, MR2's a tight fit but still usable with the mirrors folded in, garage doors are 202cm at their narrowest, rest of garage is 220cm ish (with carpet along the walls!). Length should be ok, got 430cm to play with without even taking out the work bench.
  • Pinto valve gear 17 May 2006 (Forum)
Is and injected 1983 Pinto engine in a Ford Scorpio provided with hydraulic tappets? My hostess's example here in the mountains of S. Spain sounds tappety at 197k kilometres. Does it need its clearances adjusted, or have the hydraulic tappets worn out? Fast response wd be much appreciated. Lud
  • Fixing mk4 fiesta mirror 18 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have broken the mounting clip/fixing for a mk4 fiesta n/s door mirror. The mirror has a colour coded 'shell' which is undamaged. I have seen plain black mirrors for a reasonable price on e-bay and I am wondering if anyone can give me a few tips on changing the outer shells over so that a plain black mirror can be changed to match the coloured one the car already has.
  • Rover 75 diesel engines 16 Apr 2006 (Forum)
And, why does the same engine produce 150HP in a BMW, again with nothing more than the computer code changed? I reckon the lacklustre performance of the CDT diesel in the 75's crippled their sales. Was this a restriction placed upon Rover by BMW, who didn't want their share of the powerful diesel market infringed upon?
