BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 03 2.5 Wheel overheating 26 May 2008 (Forum)
I would put this down to the brakes binding but the car does not pull to one side when braking. Performance and fuel economy seem to be OK. Anyone with any ideas? -
Mazda 626 (1997 - 1999) - V reg - 2ltr - Corroded Brake Pipes 25 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I got advisory on brake pipes recently. I've had a look at them. They are mostly still coated in plastic. The part where they are slightly corroded is where they are bare a few inches from the flexi hose. Can the life of these pipes be prelonged? -
Brake parts - various manufacturers and quality? 30 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hello, I have just received new brake discs and pads for our Clio ordered off e-Bay, they are the larger 259mm discs (the non ABS 238mm discs are a lot cheaper). Paid under £40 delivered (only bidder so got for reserve, buy-it-now was £45 + del). -
Fancy tail lights: form over function? 24 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I followed an Altea (regular, I think, not XL) up to a roundabout in gloomy light this afternoon. As it braked for the roundabout, I realized that, although the right indicator was flashing (and had been before the brake lights came on) I could barely see it. I've noticed something like this before on recent Golfs and possibly other VAG products. -
Renault Megane 1998 wheel / brakes noise 18 May 2007 (Forum)
Since then I have had a noise coming from the wheel when I slow down to around 25 mph usually after having driven for about 15 miles. TThe noise is not a squeal but sounds more like a dry joint to me. The noise stops when the brakes are applied. The garage says there is no problem they can find. Could the oil leak after the gaitor split have caused a problem somwehere if the oil wasnt properly replaced? Any ideas as Im stumped. -
Scary moment tonight on Motorway 1 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Driving home through Glasgow tonight on M8, in outside lane following a Mini, doing about 60. We round a bend and it is stand on the brakes time. A car is sitting broken down in outside lane. As I slam on the brakes, I quickly glance in my side mirror but the traffic on my left is too heavy and fast. I glance in my rear mirror and see cars piling towards me at full pelt then spotting us sitting and slamming on their brakes. -
306 - rusty brake disc 14 Jun 2004 (Forum)
New front brake discs and pads fitted about 15,000 miles ago, and there's still plenty of life left in both discs and pads. But recently a slightly rusty band has appeared on the inner surface of the right-hand disc. -
Brake Pads - Mk 4 Fiesta 14 May 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, I've decided to change the already worn down brake pads on my Mark 4 Fiesta and have purchased some new ones. However, it was only when I got them home that I realised I knew nothing about changing them! I do want to do it myself as I want to be more mechanically minded. -
Peugeot 406 Sinking Brake Pedal 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
A bit of advice please: My 1996, 90,000 mile 406 ABS 1.9TD has developed a slowly sinking brake pedal. If you push on it hard, it very slowly sinks about halfway down over about 30 seconds. I presume this is indicative of a faulty master cylinder. I've checked all over for leaks and can see none. -
A6 Auto - odd knock on foot brake 7 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My 1996 A6 2.8 auto has just just started making a very noticeable sound when I press the brake pedal before selecting a gear. It's not a clunk, a bit sharper/more metal on metal than that and comes from right under the shift. It may be unassociated, but I also seem to hear a quiet tapping at about 4/5 times per second when idling which doesn't speed up as I add a few revs, but suddenly doubles in frequency, then drops back - definitely not the fuel pump, but it's that kind of sound, but continuous. -
Volvo lighting funnies 12 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Volve S40 (a friends car, not my V40) driving along the motorway at 70mph, notice that the instrument and headlights (at least) flicker or dim briefly in braking or using the indicators. Pulled into the next services without turning off the engine repeated test with car idling but stationary....no problem, increase revs in neutral to 2500rpm (cruising speed in 5th) and problem reoccurs....lights dim (almost go out) briefly when applying brake sufficiently to illuminate brake lights or turning on indicators. -
stop that clio! 10 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Before i go to Renault for a new one does anyone know if this is a common fault on clios? And has the spring possibly snapped due to a fault somewhere else in the brake shoe assembly. Im worried that i may fit the new spring and adjust the brakes up only for the same problem to reoccur later on. The vehicle is a danger in its current state as the stopping distance must have trebled easily. -
More local Lunacy ... 12 Apr 2002 (Forum)
For those who have missed the previous ones: (1) Vehicle steered with mole grips on steering column. (2) Carb fed by gravity feed from 25 litre plastic drum and hosepipe on front seat... and now this! Cardboard brake pads were found in the braking system of a minibus taxi that was involved in a collision with another minibus. The accident occurred at about 7.10am on Thursday after the taxi's brakes failed at the intersection of the Old Vereeniging Road and Main Road in Eikenhof, south of Johannesburg, police said. -
Fifty to One 14 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Along a seven mile stretch of unobstructed rural road this morning, traffic speed about fifty mph, I only had to touch the brakes once. The brake lights of the car in front came on forty or fifty times over the same stretch. The difference? The guy in front was basically tailgating, driving on average about two cars lengths fron the one in front of him. -
vectra brakes 30 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Due to being temporarily out of action for the next couple of months I was telling my neighbour that I would have to delay the changing of the brake fluid on my Vectra. No problem he says I'll do it for you. He is a vehicle mechanic by the way. What I'll do he says is connect my compressor air line to it and blow all the old fluid out through the nipples. -
Have I got a case against the garage that MoT'd my car and missed important issues? 13 Mar 2017 (Ask HJ)
I had an MoT one month, and about 300 miles, ago. The only advisory was a rubber mounting. I took it to Honda for their spring checkover and the rear brake... -
Vauxhall Corsa C - Hissing sound under the bonnet 18 Dec 2016 (Forum)
As I'm driving along, if I accelerate a bit harder then it will become a lot less noticeable and as soon as I ease off again it comes back. The same thing happens when I brake and as soon as I ease off the brakes, the sound comes back. The brake fluid, coolant and oil levels are all fine so I'm suspecting it may be a burst hose? The engine check light has come on as of today and luckily enough the garage that I got it from is willing to sort it out for me. -
Ford Fiesta 2009 1.4 hatch. - Bleeding Fiesta brakes after fitting pads 27 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Changing the front brake pads on my son's car today; its a 2009 Fiesta 1.4. I've done this job before several times and can only imagine that I was distracted due to the fact that it was raining. Instead of removing only the caliper guide bolts on the first wheel I disconnected one caliper guide pin bolt and then unscrewed the brake hose union bolt instead of the second guide pin bolt. -
Ford Focus - Focus with squeeky brakes 6 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I bought a 2006 Focus just before christmas from a used car trader and since I bought it the brakes have been squeeking. The place I bought it from said it was serviced at the start of Dec and pads were fine. Its not got any better so I took it to my local garage (the place where I got it said they'd look at it but tbh its a hassle to get over there and wait) and they gave the brakes a good clean , said there was a buildup of dirt on them and that should sort it, the pads /discs were still good. -

My next door neighbour has a Jaguar S-Type which hasn't moved in 18 months. Would you consider this to be a future classic? It has done 53000 mls with...
