Volvo XC40 - As we have 2 kids and stay at our familie's houses often then practicality and big boot is important so i'venever owend a volvo but hear they're very practical. Merc GLA- We've had an audi q3 as our last motobility car and it's been a pleasure although we aren't keen on the Q2 as it has a smaller boot, this merc seems like a good option as it is comparable in many ways. all these three sort of fulfil on our criteria so just wondering what your guys views were? -
Best Family Car for 5k? 6 Jan 2018 (Forum)
With 2 little kids I am in need of a car with more boot space - currently driving a 57 reg Audi A3 Sport 2.0 with 96k and looking to get something a bit bigger as we are filling the boot up way to easily and have no roof rack. Also 3 doors is a pain. Unfortunatly I don't have much to spend - 3k + whatever I can get for my car, PX or eBay... -
BMW M3 - DCT v DSG v Manual 13 Apr 2017 (Forum)
(don't want to throw too many Qs into my other thread hence this if that's ok!) I've an Audi TT DSG. Incredible car, love it to bits. The DSG works like a dream. The only thing that bothers me is that with all my manual cars I could have the clutch on the edge of biting when pulling off lights or into/out of a junction and the car would leap. -
BMW 5 Series - 2017 5 Series Review 30 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I d like the way that BMW are able to combine both handling and comfort, a trait that seems to be unachievable by Audi and Mercedes although to a lesser extent in that MB deliberatley set out for mainly comfort with the E class. One thing I wish journalists would stop saying about BMW is that their cars are always evolutionary. -

Mercedes E Class estate 2015 - Mercedes DPF problems 23 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I am aware diesels need to go on a run every so often to clean out the DPF. I have considered a 250CGI but I know it will be underpowered. I had had an Audi A6 which I had to do a run and currently have a BMW 5 touring diesel which in 1 year I've had to call Bmw out to clean out a valve, which worked. I have been told by Mercedes that a light will come on and then it has to go into Mercedes for a re-generation. -
Volvo V40 - Volvo V40 Residuals 2 Sep 2014 (Forum)
What surprised me was that the Volvo V40 D2 (and seemingly according to Autotrader as well) is the most expensive of the lot, by around £1k over the Audi, and nearly £2k over the BMW/Golf even after negotiation - truth be told the Volvo dealer didn't really move unlike the rest, but prices generally seem higher like-for-like. Similar mileage (20k miles), very nice car and probably the one I'd favour all being equal, despite being slowest and being a Volvo! -

Should I Opt Out of Car Allowance for Co Car? 15 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I am know thinking I might be better off with a company car - they currently offer bmw 3 series or Audi A4. I appreciate I will lose the car allowance in my salary, and will get taxed on BIK for company car but not sure where to start on a calculation to see which option would be more cost effective. Can I still claim the tax relief if I have a company car as that was a nice little summer bonus that I didnt realise I could claim until this year! -
HJ Questions / WeBuyAnyCar / NMR 10 Mar 2011 (Forum)
The vast majority of errors seem to come from the latter source. For example, last week I did a NMR check on an Audi which had done 155k. I accidentally entered two letters the wrong way round and it came up as a Vectra. That Vectra now has 155k recorded on the NMR check and anyone else who does a check will see it. -
Jag XJS 4.0 - Do I have to use Insurers accident damage repairer 13 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I have absolutely no information about them so this comment is not a negative reflection on them, they may be superb. They are approved by Audi, VW, Seat, and a few others, but not by Jaguar as far as I could tell. http://www.brobson.co.uk/ Given the nature of the car (14 years out of production, recently restored, highly valued) should I let the insurers choose a what seems to be a general repair centre or should the car be going somewhere more specialised. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 1.9 GT TDI 150pd juddering/black smoke @ 3000rpm 19 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I was told that it was my boost pipes, so I replaced 2 but to no avail, took it for an mot yesterday and it failed on the emissions test! So I took for a service at a VW and Audi 'specialist' they reported that another boost pipe had a screw screwed into it as well as my turbo seeping oil ( not a major amount though)??? I have also been told to drive without the MAF plugged in to see if it drives any better, but if anything it drives worse? -
Citroen C5 II (2008 - ) - Good looking deal on 59 plate 23 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Company is mine BTW, and generally I don't pay tax - just earn a minimum and dividends. I know many of you will say don't - get a used Audi/BMW etc, but apart from the Merc C class I really didn't rate their quality of drive all that much. and that is out of my league. -

Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - MK6 Golf deals??? 11 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Only thing stopping me now is the chance that No 10 will announce a 2k scrapping charge discount for >9 yr old cars (like the german scheme) and I don't want to miss out as I have an 11-yr old Audi I can sell. Will hang on for 6 months...... Any other experiences out there on new Golfs??? -
Volkswagen Golf I GTI and Citu Golf (1975 - 2009) - 'Best' modern petrol engine 7 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Driven very briskly when the opportunity arose and continued to run faultlessly up to 140k miles after I sold it. This was followed by an Audi 80 Sport (B626***) with the 1.8 engine. Bought 3rd hand by myself and ran faultlessly until I sold it with 145k miles when it was succumbing to rust problems.A friend of mine bought a Mk2 Golf GTI 8V (H reg) at a year old and only sold it 3 years ago with 180k miles because he fancied a change!! -
Advice on replacement family car 16 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Usually a few hols in the UK each year and numerous trips around the country to relatives etc, so has to be big enough to cope (decent boot space plus decent cabin size to allow for car seats, also like to avoid the need for a top box and will on occassion be used to lug DIY bits around!). Much as I like the Audi I've no intention of paying for such "prestige" privately so am thinking 1-2 years old and something a little more reasonably priced. Wife would love a new shape CR-V (yummy mummy snob value but she won't admit to it like that....). -
Recommend me a cheap convertible... 7 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Drop-top wise, in the past I've had everything from a chrome-bumper MGB Roadster, Astra Convertible, TVR Griffith, Audi TT and even a Suzuki Vitara (don't laugh, it was great fun!). The trouble with convertibles is that they can often be very uncool, especially driven by a bloke. Much as I would like a Merc Pagoda SL, cheap and cheerful is the order of the day. -
