  • Which diesel auto estate? 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
So I have a limited choice, several candidates are not available as auto diesel e.g. new Mondeo and I fear BMW and Mercedes are too pricey. My shortlist is looking like: Citroen C5 VW Passat 130 Rover 75 Volvo V70 I would really appreciate any comments on these or alternative diesel auto estates which I may have overlooked.
  • Bumper Badness 14 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I imagine the repair will involve having to sort out the mounting brackets behind the bumper and respraying the bumper. Does anyone have any ideas on whether they think I should take it to BMW to get it done (how much would this cost??) or get it done independently (would they be able to do a neat job??) Your views would be much appreciated!
  • Supermarket petrol??! 8 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I posted a question earlier and mentioned the fact that I put supermarket petrol in my car (a Rover 620 Ti which I've run for four years, has 78,000 on the clock and still no smoke!. I'm about to change and buy a '96 BMW 728i with 30,000 miles on the engine. Shell Optimax seems very popular on the web (but expensive on only one garage in Cardiff) - so my question is this. Should I stick to one brand of petrol? BP?
  • 6K Family car 21 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I have 6K to spend on a solid family car. I have considered a Passat, Audi A4 and old A6, old 5 series BMW, Honda Accord, Toyota Avensis and high spec Mo Mondeos. It appears to be a trade off between old quality high milers and newer cars perceived as less quality vehicles. The Passats seem to get a hammering on quality.
  • Exhausts 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
1987 C BMW 316 requires a new rear exhaust section. I have been quoted around £20 - £30 for a replacement. However, I am interested in a stainless steel rear section as I think that they look more attractive over a longer period of time.
  • BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - 325D Final installment 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Skillions of advice from folks more knowledgeable than me. On balance it seems inadvisable to chance it. When in doubt spend money. Consult BMW manual. Page 127 solemnly intones that only BMW approved oil should be entertained. Rack what remains of brain. No data whatsoever on subject of BMW approved oil. Not convinced that progress is being made.
  • 2 weeks in the US - observations motoring & other 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Cost - this was most surprising (even at $2 to the pound). Did a couple of examples. First was a car similar to mine (A3 170 TDi quattro) and BIL's (BMW 520d M sport.) First problem - no diesels offered on either of these two cars on Audis and BMW's US websites. So we compared an A3 3.2 quattro and a BMW 525 with similiar levels of trim. Cost of Audi c.$32k, in the UK £29k, thus like for like at present exchange rates US cost is £16k.....a saving of £13k.
  • BMW M3 CS - Multiple Faults from purchase, No Help from Dealer 15 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Dear Honest John, I purchased a BMW M3 CS from Beck Evans in Sidcup on 29th September this year. This is my 5th BMW and my 3rd 'M' so I know a bit about them. I paid £12,000 (partly though Close Motor Finance) the vehicle had covered 75,000 miles on a '55 plate.

  • bmw s1000xr - accident claim confusion 25 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I can go with another injury lawyer and let a third party take care of the bike? 5. since the bike is on finance, I am pretty positive if I request the BMW to assess it - they will say hell no, we don't want that back even after pro repair (i may be wrong here, but I don't think it will be financially viable to fix it), so how would that get sorted? would the third party pay rest of the finance on the bike + some to me to the value of the bike pre-accident?
  • BMW 530i - Wheel and Tyre Sets - Be wary if buying online 14 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Having used MYTYRES previously for tyres only, I had no issue using them again this time to buy a set of winter wheels and tyres for an E60 BMW.   After deciding which rim and tyre combo I wanted and the website showing my vehicle with the chosen set, I placed my order.   Goods arrived, all appeared fine.
  • Trouble with used car bought from dealer - help! 11 May 2018 (Forum)
I recently bought a used 03 BMW 745i from a used car dealer. The car was advertised as low mileage, with a full main dealer service history and no faults. I paid the top end of what the car was worth based on these factors and the overall condition.
  • BMW X3 - Mid size SUV help 10 Jun 2015 (Forum)
It'll need to hold bikes (either in/on the back or the top; my Civic can't do anything external and be ready for our dog in the boot & eventually kids. 4WD isn't a massive need though if it comes with it that's fine. It's probably going to be the only brand new car I ever buy. So far I've considered the BMW X3 and the Honda CR-V. The Beemer strikes me as luxurious, well equipped and fun but is right at the top of my price range with the specs I've looked at. The CR-V, even at its top spec, is a bit more palatable in terms of price but I hear it's a bit dull to drive; then again, is that such a bad thing given what I'll be doing?!
  • BMW 1-series - Returned car to dealership due to issues - advice 10 Dec 2014 (Forum)
At the beginning of October I purchased an E87 130i M Sport from a reputable BMW specialist. 6 weeks later I experienced the following problems: I Drive malfunction (Professional Nav) The I Drive Screen crashed one morning during my commute to work, rebooted itself and now the I drive now does one of two things: 1.
  • F25 BMW X3 - New car run in 4 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Took 2 secs to look at the Honda's windscreen ,  showing RFL at £281 , whereas the X3 is only £130,  told him that was the nutshell reason,  so much more advanced and efficient. The only mini item to mention is to say that I think I caught out BMW forgetting to design out a LHD feature,  where on selecting reverse,  the NS mirror dips helpfully,  took a while to ascertain this only happens when the mirror movement selector is set to '  Drivers' mirror ' ,  not the Nearside,  so am thinking this is an oversight from LHD, where you would want RHD drivers' mirror - their passenger's - to dip.
  • Sports & Performance Used Car Dealers 9 May 2012 (Forum)
Now, just to explain this, I was in the market for both an M3 and a BMW X6, reason being I have moved back here after a few tough but very lucrative years working in Iraq. I have always bought cars from auctions, and never bought a car from either a private individual or a dealer, as my dad used to do the same and I personally have always saved thousands and never had any problems with cars from auction.
  • Just a very short BMW dealer rant 24 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Anyway, I'm calling my local back to book it in tommorow, they said it will be about £160 for Euro Car Parts, or less if I was happy with a cheaper part supplier, which I'm not. I think it sounds a fair quote, and the local BMW specialist Indie wants about £240 for the same job. Just as a side note to my little rant, would people stick EBC Greenstuffs on this car? I'm tempted by a lack of brake dust! Blue
  • Failing to buy a new car. 13 Jan 2006 (Forum)
After having a fun year in my lovely SLK350 - time has come to part. So after some thinking about the replacement I decided on either an Audi A4 2.5tdi Avant or a BMW 320d Touring. First visit was the BMW dealer. WOH! I'm a young man but even I was overwhelmed by the testoterone overload in the local BMW dealership. All sales men were mean and under 40. They all lookde sharp as tacks and prowled around the showroom like robots.
  • Discovering the joys of diesel 14 Jul 2004 (Forum)
(Oh, yes the rocker cover gasket.) (HANDY HINT TO EVERYONE - BMW main dealer Inspection 2 services are beyond a joke, NEVER PAY FOR ONE.) At this point I decided I'd had enough, the Beemer had to go. Deciding to go from one end of the spectrum to the other (and the car I had before the 528 was a Jap import 220bhp Prelude Type-S) - I traded the 528 in against a '99 Peugeot 106 1.5 diesel, well, I say traded in, it was a straight swap.
  • Future Classic: Range Rover L322 25 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Here goes:  1) "In 2005, the Range Rover had a major facelift, to effectively remove as much of the BMW content as possible. The engines were replaced by Ford-PSA’s 2.7-litre TDV6 diesel"  This is incorrect on two counts. Firstly, 2005 MY was more of a visual nip and tuck than anything substantial. 2007 MY was the year the major changes arrived with the replacement of the BMW M57 diesel engine with a Ford sourced 3.6 twin turbo diesel V8.
