  • Goodwood Festival of Speed 19 Jul 2009 (Forum)
It has lost a lot of its garden party atmosphere since I was last there about ten years ago, due to increased crowds and commercialisation, but there is certainly something for everyone - motorbikes, race cars, road cars, rally cars, old cars, new cars and some that never should have existed. I drove down on friday as the public were leaving and the last 20 miles had a constant stream of interesting cars coming the other way - Ferraris including an F40, Maseratis, TVRs, 7s, lots of vintage cars, and a Toyota iQ.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Warranty: cover with irregular Service History 27 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I have just bought a 3 year old Mondeo from a dealer in Southampton, with 30K on the clock. I found the car on the internet and went to view and purchase the car yesterday. When I originally phoned about the car, I asked if there was a full service history and I was told there was.

  • BMW X3 - BMW X3 self started 27 Jul 2012 (Forum)
BMW X3 (wonderful car) , 6 weeks old, was parked, engine stopped (stop/start function), we locked the car and went to an event about 200 yards away.  It was announced at the event that the car engine was running and please return to the car.
  • Haynes photo cars - what happens to them? 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
What happens to these cars afterwards? Are they rebuilt and sold on as "normal" used cars? Could one or more of us be driving around in a car that has been reduced back to its component parts and reassembled since leaving the factory?
  • Private buyer at auction 23 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I've been to an auction to get a feel for things and have decided I want to have a go at bidding for a car from a fleet sale. I noticed that a lot of the cars are around the 3 year old mark and as such don't have MOT's. Am I OK to phone my insurance company and insure the car before I leave the auction and book an MOT with an MOT centre before I leave the auction and drive the car directly there.
  • BCA: Moving cars with forklifts ! ? 13 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Had a real eye opener at Blackbushe today. In one of the holding compounds the staff were using a forklift to move cars around. You could be forgiven for thinking these cars might have been old bangers or non runners but no ! these were top notch lease/prestige cars. I've seen salvage yards/auctions using forklifts (totally understandable) but why use this method for driveable cars ?
  • Car kits 27 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Ebay also tends to have the complete kits.... any ideas? I am after the Control unit HFU-2 and cradle MCC-1 of the Nokia car kit CARK-91 and am replacing an older Nokia kit so all the old wiring, mic etc is common
  • Banger(ish) shopping in Ayrshire 9 Aug 2025 (Forum)
I’ve been asked to find a car by one of my old customers. Chap has had a 2008 Vauxhall Astra 1.8 that I sold him around nine years ago and wants something a bit newer. There’s little wrong with the car he has, it’s a few minor things that it would need for a fresh Mot in a few weeks, but despite my advice to stick with what he has and that another 12/13yr old car at £3-£4k will almost certainly land him with repairs bills too, he can’t be talked out of it.
  • ABI category C and D writeoffs explained 20 Oct 2016 (Forum)
A ten year old, run of the mill car with a scraped bumper and broken headlight will be a category C.   Another common misconception surrounding damaged cars," Insurance companies don't write a car off with hardly any damage?"
  • Mini or Yaris? - Best Small Car - Mini? Step up from Kia or Yaris 15 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I have 2 kids under 12 who I regularly cart around, I previously had a very old Yaris which in actual fact drove superb for a 2002 model.  I then brought a Kia Picanto, which is nice and compact for urban driving, but harsh on the plentiful bumps.  I'd like a more stylish car now, but would still like the quality, efficiency and reliability factors to be high on the list.
  • Skoda Fabia Estate - Second Hand Car Recommendations 16 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Hi, I'm looking to buy a car with a few wants/needs: as low insurance as possible, good MPG (ideally 50+), can easily fit roof racks to, reasonably large boot, preferably not much more than 10 years old and less than 100k miles.
  • Ford Fiesta - Battery draining 24 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Hi everyone. Really need some help with my 18 year old sons car. The battery light keeps coming on while driving, then the ABS light. He pulls over and switches the engine off and then the car will not restart to the point of no hazard lights or anything.
  • Honda Civic 1.8 petrol 9th generation 2012-2017 - Catalytic converter clogged up 24 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Hello, I have been informed my catalytic converter is clogged up. The car is 8 years old and 103,000 miles on the clock. I would like to keep the car a bit longer if possible. But don't want to pay the cost of a genuine part from Honda for the age of the car. Honda quoted me £1000 to supply and fit.
  • Hyundai trajet - Bump stops 17 Sep 2021 (Forum)
My 2004 Trajet has just failed MOT, the "major." defect will be straightforward for a mechanic to repair, but the "minor" defect is proving a headache - missing bump stops both sides rear axle. Bump stops for other cars seem to be around £10 each, but the only place that can quote to supply me is a hyundai dealer, at £82 each. I'm reluctant to spend this on an old, high-mileage car, but it also seems a shame to scrap it for something minor.
  • Subaru Outback - Tyres for 2018 Subaru Outback 29 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Be grateful for any help please as all the Subaru dealers I've dealt with have been rubbish.  Need two new tyres for the car but apparently the original Bridgestone Duellers are no longer made. ( Pretty poor given the car is just 3 years old) but seem to recall that the 4 wheel drive system on Subs needs all tyres to be the same.
  • Korean cars cheap junk? dont think so 14 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Well, I bought this 3 yr old Hyundai Elantra a few months ago. This is my second Hyundai since coming to the US. Very impressed so far. Yes it is a little dull and has a lot of grey plastic inside. But every morning it starts on the first crank, and in 10k miles I've put on it so far, hasn't missed a beat.
  • Need help choosing next car 4 Jan 2021 (Forum)

  • Skoda Octavia Mk3 1.5 TSI DSG hatch - New Car Oil & Filter Change at 1,000miles? 26 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Skoda Octavia 1.5 petrol is brand new, barely two weeks old and comes with the 2-year fixed price service offer.  Is it worthwhile booking it in (and me paying for) at 1,000 mile point a simple engine oil and filter change by the Skoda dealer?
