  • Any - Clarifying "issues with modern diesels" 8 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Then at weekends usually twice a month we will do a long trip to visit family which involves an hour to an hour and a half of motorway and dual carridgeway for at least 3/4 of that journey. I know it is difficult to say, but if the problems are only DPF regen related, will the above useage patterns mean we are ok and the DPF will regen ok and not give us problems?
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 2.0 Diesel DPF and driving modern diesels 16 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I only do about 15k/annum and I think I may be better off with Petrol. Do they/the car tell you when you NEED to regenerate the DPF, or do you need a regular Italian tune up, which defeats the purpose somewhat. I was thinking that diesel cars need some sort of exhaust temperature monitoring so you could be sure you were in the "zone" of good?
  • Mazda 5 2.0 diesel Sport Nav 71K miles - DPF regen exhaust gone funny 31 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi all just wondering if you couild help with this at all, the above car engine light came on and i was told it needed a cat regen, went and got this done at the mazda dealers, after getting new injectors (wallets still hurting) they told me it was too blocked up and would need a new Cat Converter, however they did offer to try a new solution which has come onto the market apparently which is 95% effective (didnt ask what it was called) in these situations and if it worked it would avoid me shelling out a shed load on a new cat converter / dpf filter,  suffice to say it appears to have worked and the car is working fine, but the exhaust is making a fuunny sound in the 30-40 speed range (3rd gear) the best way to describing it would be a loud Brrr noise kinda similar to how my old 306 diesel sounded when the back box fell off once doing a quick visual the exhaust seems to be fine, i will ring them tomorrow to find out if its normal, but has anybody had any experience of cat / dpf regens, will the exhaust sound go back to normal in a few days or am i worrying for nothing, its my 1st car with a DPF and i have only had it about 3 weeks so i cant compare it to how it should have sounded. any and all suggestions much appreciated and thank you to all contributors in advance.
  • Mazda 6 SL 2008+ - Mazda 6 Handbook - Should be amended/revised 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I need to ask the question of whom thinks the handbook should be changed for the following reason. DPF - I am sure a lot of you know of the problems the DPF system has caused us all? Does it mention anywhere in the handbook that if a DPF regeneration is not carried out what are the consequences?
  • MINI Cooper D - Mini CooperD DPF fault light - needing urgent help 2 Jun 2017 (Forum)
It doesn't help that I think there may be a slight electrical issue with the car, I've had dash lights for ''pass air bag off'' intermittently lit on start up and also external light failure warning light. I've seen there are treatments for the DPF, however I do not want to spend money on this if its actually something faulty elsewhere causing the light to come on. If I get a diagnostics test done will it just reflect what the display is showing or will it know 100% if the DPF is knackered?
  • Yaris Diesel - Toyota again!! 1 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Since having it serviced a year ago last may and again this May  I've had nothing but trouble with the Dpf. This year I took it to Toyota for its service , within 2 weeks the DPF was blocked, they did a regen but as a gesture of goodwill they charged me half which amounted to £80. 1200 miles later within 3 weeks (most of that on motorway) it found it's way back into Toyota with a blocked DPF.

  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.6TDCi - DPF replenish 14 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Anyway, I bought the car with over 38k on the clock and having looked at the log book Arnold Clarke did a service at 38k. They have confirmed this DPF replensih was not done on that service as recommended by ford ("3rd service or 37500") - have I got a case to bill them for it?? is this just a recommendation? Cheers
  • Ford Focus III - Diesel Pariculate Filter Problems 4 May 2010 (Forum)
I bought the car from a well know national car supermarket.  In January the engine management light came on and it turned out that the DPF needed repenishing.  As this was not covered in the entended warrenty I paid for, I had to bring it down to Ford and paid £100 for it.  Now the light has come back on and having taken it back to Ford they have said the DPF needs relacing completely and have quoted £850!!!!
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - 08 2.0d Extreme Diesel Dilution - DPF 11 Nov 2009 (Forum)
To cut a long story short the problem i had of the car over-accelerating on it's own was appartently due to a DPF problem which let diesel in the oil. I had my full oil test report back today, my self & the garage were stunned at the result. Analysis: Diesel Dilution testing Result: 62 Units: % I had to make sure with the testing company that they never made a mistake with the readings, they assured me that there is 62% diesel mixed with the engine oil.
  • Car with Good MPG 17 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I would ideally want MPG of around 50 plus.  I have been thinking of Fiesta 2009/10 1.6 tdci non DPF or a Megane 1.5 dci 2011(unsure about dpf).  For me after MPG, reliability and holding as much value is most important.  Advice would be great.  Thanks

  • Peugeot 307 - Fault 9 Sep 2015 (Forum)
My Peugeot as recently had a fault with the dpf and the mechanic cleared it out and as he did not have the software could not reset the onboard computer. After awhile white grey smoke started to come out of the exhaust and a burning smell. Took the car to a diagnostic garage and they ran tests and reset the dpf but noted that the glow plugs stay on and do not switch off.
  • Range rover petrol or diesel? 26 Aug 2014 (Forum)
However, I drive only about 5 miles a day and about 4000 miles a year in total. I have a xf at present which is struggling with dpf issues. Porsche dealer said that cayenne diesels do not have dpf issues. Is that right? I am keen on range rover though and not sure whether to go for diesel or petrol.
  • any - acea grade c3 17 Sep 2011 (Forum)
acea c3/c4 are stay in grade high performance fully synthetic oils for petrol and diesel engines with diesel particulate filters and Three way catalyst systems. These oils will extend the life of thw DPF and the Catalytic converter.   So is this why dealers are not putting in the correct grades, so that further down the line we will have no warranty claim if we don't notice the "wrong" type or gade of oil is in the engine, and then we have to pay for a very expensive DPF filter at our own expense.
  • Honda CR-V - Correct Oil for Honda CR-V 2.2 CTDi 9 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The amber oil level warning light has just come on my 2007 CR-V 2.2 CTDi (the first of the new shape April 2007) I have visited the Castrol website and apparently the oil I should use depends on whether the car is a DPF version or not. Is there anyway of knowing if my car was fitted with a DPF? Any thoughts on which oil I should use to top up greatly appreciated.
  • Sweet spot VAG diesel engine? 2 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Spending between 4 and 6k.  I know VAG diesels have a good rep in this respect but i want a DPF-less car because of the town work. How about the 130 1.9tdi ? Is this classed as the sweet spot? No DPF so no issues around town but will do 55mpg on a run? Plenty of boot space in something like an Audi A4 for the kids stuff.
  • Hyundai ix35 - Shall I keep my diesel car or replace with petrol? 15 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Now I have got a job locally so I just travel 3 miles daily and around 10 miles on the weekends for grocery shopping. I read that lot of short trips is bad for the DPF so just want to check if it is a good idea to replace this with a Petrol car so that I don't need to worry about DPF in the future. In the worst case how much bill can I expect if the DPF develops any problem?
  • Mazda CX-3 1.5d SE Nav - DPF 20 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Bought a new CX-3 1.5d SE Nav at the end of April 2016. Great car & spec etc........but the flashing DPF light keeps coming on. It happened the first time with less than 500 miles on the clock & continues to be a BIG problem. It happens on a long run on motorway journeys. Mazda  Oxford had it in for an afternoon to fix the problem.....then it happened again & again.....then  Mazda  Oxford had it again for 6 days to sort the problem out again.
