• Aids to avoiding speed cameras counter productive? 3 Jan 2008 (Forum)
  However, I have just bought an easier to use Sat Nav (Garmin Nuvi 250) to replace an older more complex Pocket PC type. But it has an unwanted (presumably UK only) POI Camera database........ I am considering this though. While I can understand its application for anyone who tends to be over the limit, what is opinion on using the camera alert option amongst those who generally stick to the limits?

  On the other hand, if she has collected that many FPNs in a short space of time, what is she thinking of when she is driving? Speed cameras are usually well sighted and visable, as are speed limits. The vast majority of people, whilst they may not be considered great drivers, are capable of adhering to speeds in built up areas, especially with bightly labelled cameras.

  I raised a topic of Speed Cameras on 16 Jul about my car going through a speed camera when I and car were hundreds of miles away. I got some interesting replies suggesting 'cloning' was widespread. I wrote to police and asked for evidence etc.

  Not speeding, necessarily (or cameras, come to that). This arrived in my in-box today. I assume it is correct? "Those new electronic signs on the M4 were switched on this Tuesday. The bad news is that they are rigged with the SPECS speed cameras.

  Been reading a lot of guff on the internet about camera detection that can spot people using their mobile phones and take a birds eye view, currently used in Australia. The RAC website however stated on 22 Mar 22 that these cannot be used at the moment as the law has to be changed.

  There's a decent demographic of folks on here so I thought I would seek opinions: Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent camera? I had a crap Vivitar, but my phone outdoes that, but the phone is very basic.  I'm not after anything fancy (no SLRs) as most of my pics will be of Mr Bobbin when he is sunburned and probably some archaeology.

  It is obviously more dangerous to speed during the day when a road is busy during the day than it is at night when deserted. I triggered a speed camera 21 days ago and no NIP so I think I have got away with it. It was at night on an empty road,;maybe it simply had no film in it. A friend recently triggered one at 2am again on an empty road and he was not prosecuted.

  Certainly my first, on the A77 Ayr bypass, in the layby just north of where the road crosses the River Ayr. Silver Vauxhall Astra estate, well marked, with red LED sign saying what it was. Camera on a tripod just behind the car. Wish we could do a poll on this forum - it would give an idea of how common these are.

  Over the past few months I have come across a number of new speed cameras which do not have the familiar distance-marking lines painted on the road. I am intrigued to know whether:- They are not yet commissioned OR They are dummies OR They are a new type which do not require lines but just register the speed of the passing vehicle.

  After a weekend break in Derbyshire during May I received and unwelcome piece of post. Exceeding 30 mph on a main road due to lack of concentration - camera was fixed on a pole behind me. Then having been away to Devon a couple of weeks ago I received more unwelcome post. This time caught doing 36 in a 30 limit after taking a wrong turn, from behind by a mobile/hand held camera, so that's three points and a speed awareness course - gather the latter is good.

  He/she hammered right up to me and swerved violently to pass me....then slowed down to 30mph because there was a speed camera there. Once past he hurtled off into the distance causing due panic ahead. Surely police cars are immune from speed cameras aren't they? Especially when on an emergency call. Maybe he just late for his tea break or something and if that's the case he's an idiot.
