I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED A EUNOS ROADSTER 1.8. THE FUEL CONSUMPTION SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE HIGH AS I ONLY GET ABOUT 60 MILES TO £10 ON A GOOD RUN. HAVE YOU ANY IDEAS WHY THIS MIGHT BE OR IS THIS NORMAL. I HAVE CHEKED THE AIR FILTER WHICH IS CLEEN. ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE WELCOME. THANKS IN ADVANCE IAN
  • Stolen Vehicle Register 10 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Got something new to try: www.crimesite.co.uk Apparently it contains, or will contain, a comprehensive directory of stolen vehicles by VIN number. It's run by ex-plod. But the site is in development and I couldn't get into it tonight. Lets all keep each other posted as to whether or not it's working. Maybe we can help it work. HJ
  • VW Jetta - cracked cylinder head 2 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Does anyone know of an additive to the cooling system that will repair a cracked cylinder head. The problem only shows on the warm up procedure by missing and loss of power and occasionally runs hot. A new head will cost more than the car is worth but it is otherwise in good condition - thanks for any help
  • Jaguar S type battery rundown 22 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Should a 2000 model Jaguar S type be able to go longer than 8 days, fully alarmed without running the battery dead? If so, what do I need to say to a dealer who claims there are no problems with it? If not, what to do to avoid the problem? Many thanks in advance.
  • ex police T5 2 Jul 2001 (Forum)

  • oil changes-older cars 23 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I may also be getting a VW Polo 1.0 which has done around 70,000 on similar servicing. Both will be run into the ground-is it worth, at this stage in their lives, starting six monthly oil and filter services?
  • Converting volvo 940 to gas 21 Feb 2001 (Forum)
I have a Volvo 940 "Celebration" with the 2.4 low pressure turbocharged engine. on enquiring about converting to run on gas I have had various opinions from; "No problem" to don't attempt it" Has anyone converted to gas? how successful is it? any problems? and how much should it be costing me!!
  • Floods. 7 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Oddly because the Fens are flat they don't suffer the same flash flooding as river valley situations but when the water does cover a road it does so for a long way. There is a location near here on a rural commuter route where a long run in flood water is needed several times a year to avoid an annoying long detour. It is amazing the risks you see taken with normal cars just to "get through". With a medium TD hatchback there is a real chance of sucking up enough water to trash the engine, never mind the long term effects on all the running gear.
  • Vauxhall Astra CDTi 2013 - Vauxhall Astra CDTi frequently running regen 23 Oct 2024 (Forum)
*edit* thought it best to mention that since the injectors were changed I've taken it out on the motorway a few times, running it for about an hour in 4th gear and 2.5k to 3.0k revs. It hasn't tried to regen on the motorway as far as I can tell, it keeps doing it once I'm back on the urban roads doing like 20mph, which is somewhat annoying...
  • Reliable estate/SUV under £5,000? 7 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I don’t really care too much about style – I just want something comfortable, safe, cheap to run and reliable. Thanks!
  • Smart Forfour - Smart Forfour 454 Engine Trouble 10 May 2019 (Forum)
We checked the fuses. We even went and poured some extra fuel into the damn thing to make sure it wasn't running low. Because it's such a damn particular fussy little thing, it won't let my cousin run diagnostics, because he doesn't have the right computer program for it. Currently looking into that.  Granted, the car is old, but it's been very well taken care of, the mileage is only at 80k, and never showed any prior signs of just up and dying on me.
  • Renault Megane,Toyota Avensis,Mazda 3- all saloons - Which 08 saloon? 6 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I am running an R reg Renault Megane saloon, which despite its years still amazes me with just how smooth it is on the road. I have recently done the Uni run with my daughter and we covered the equivalent of London to Ankara!
  • Honda Jazz - Honda Jazz 2004 Rear Pad & Disk Replacement Tips 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
To say the car has something of a maintance backlog is putting it lightly, it wasnt EVER serviced until last year (104k Miles) the only work ever having being undertaken being a new clutch, a new rad and a set of front pads. I have now done loads to it and it runs as sweet as a nut, gives 42mpg around town/country. I love it to bits as a functional day to day run around.
  • Porsche 911 996 C2, C4, Turbo (1997 - 2004) - Bought an 03 911 C2 996 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I could not look at any 2 seaters as I have a young son (who has already said that when he's bigger he's having the car!), so need to have 3 of us in it at weekends. Running costs are around what I expected £50-£60 to fill up on fuel for 400 miles. On board computer can show up to 37 - 39 miles per gallon (ok doing a steady 60 on the m'way). Has not cost me anything else except I had the suspension geo'd at a racing specialist & it runs like a different car - absolutely fantastic all day everyday.
  • Rat runs, main routes and traffic obstruction 31 May 2009 (Forum)
I agreed and we set off, he in his partner's MINI and I in my rough old Escort. I got to the pub, which was crowded. He wasn't there yet. They had run out of my favourite tipple so I had to have Young's ordinaire, the next best thing. The staff took ages to get to me and I got us both a pint. He turned up at least seven minutes after me. He told me he had come by the direct route: King's Cross, Euston Rd, Marylebone Rd, flyover into Notting Hill.
  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 00 1124cc Difficult to start, runs badly. 26 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Once started again it sounds as though it is going to conk out again at any point, the gear stick also starts shaking, I then have to leave it running for 5-10 minutes. When I pull away the car begins to lose power and only what I can describe as "bunny hops" down the road! I have to dip the clutch to stop it cutting out. Once I have been driving for 5-10 minutes the problem seems to sort itself out and is fine for the rest of the day.
  • Alfa Romeo - 2000, Lusso Twin Spark holed exhaust like noise. 9 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I have a 2000 166 Lusso twinnie, that runs like a dog...well perhaps that's a bit harsh, but I'm starting to get really hacked off with it. It has what I can only describe as a vibration through the rev range, and it sounds like there is a hole in the exhaust (there isn't and I have had a new manifold as this was what the local Alfa independent thought it was -on removal it was slightly cracked around the weld, but wasn't the problem!).
  • Suzuki Swfit at 5000 miles & 7 months 30 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I drove it recently and also drove it for its first 500 miles back in May. Sister has been highly delighted with the car. It is used daily for short runs in suburban/rural driving. Not usually more than about 6 miles, but occassional runs of 50+ miles. I drove the car recently and the engine has loosened up remarkably - very punchy in 2nd gear which will carry you from 5mph-40mph very swiftly.
  • VW Starting Problems 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I am writing this on behalf of my Uncle and Auntie who run an F reg Volkswagen Transporter 2.0 petrol camper van. The camper runs fairly well in general although there are a few little niggles that I?m hoping that you can help me out with. Damp: If it has been standing overnight and it has been raining and they go to start it, it is extremely reluctant to fire up ?
  • French put the brake on classic car parts 15 Jan 2002 (Forum)
On my wife's Prelude with pattern pads from Halfords (make forgotten), the alloys are covered in brake dust at the front. Likewise, the 900 when I was running it.
