  • New Scenic Electric Sunroof 4 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Please don't turn this into a Renault bashing thread! Just picked up brand new Scenic, brought home, showing off the electric sunroof and now it won't close fully! Book says that it may bounce back if it hits something but it is not.
  • Depreciation - Winners & Losers 22 Jan 2004 (Forum)
It was good to see the Rover 75 in 5th position, losing only 34.2% over the 3 year period. Bottom was the Renault Laguna which lost a massive 68.9%, followed closely by the Nissan Primera and Ford Mondeo, which both lost over 66%. There is no question that depreciation is the greatest cost of car ownership when buying new, but the Mondeo makes a great buy at 3 years old.!!!
  • Rewiring Hazard lights on Clio 172 2 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I have an X reg., imported Renault Clio Sport 172. Currently the hazard warning lights only work with the ignition on. To pass it\'s MOT it needs to be rewired so the hazard lights are connected to the battery instead. How long should this take a competent auto electrician?
  • How can they get it so wrong? 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
There have been a couple of threads recently regarding vehicles which have been disasters in terms of sales. IIRC Renault were responsible for a couple and judging by HJ's comments the new Vx Signum looks likes it's going to be another. How can global companies with so much experience get it so wrong ? It's hard to predict fashion but some of the problems affecting these cars appear obvious so why aren't they dealt with prior to launch and who ultimately carries the can for a hugely costly and unmitigated sales disaster ?
  • diesel fuel pump 14 May 2003 (Forum)
As the car's book value is only about £2500, does anyone have any alternative suggestions which would make more economic sense? The engine is, in fact, a Renault TD 1.9.
  • Small reliable car 16 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I am looking to buy a small(ish) 5 door car - VW Polo size approx costing around £5-£6K but having read reviews (with some horror stories over faults) on various sites including this one, I am a bit confused as to which to go for. For short list I have VW Polo 1.4CL, Skoda Fabia 1.4, Ford Fiesta 1.25, Seat Ibiza 1.4. or Renault Clio 1.4. Would appreciate any comments/advice good or bad that could help me make a choice.
  • Cars with less space than should be 2 Feb 2003 (Forum)
While looking recently, I was amazed by the lack of space in some cars. I'm 6'3 with long legs. Renault Laguna and New Megane; no kneeroom for the driver. Skoda Octavia; no kneeroom. Hard to switch from gas to brake. Skoda Superb; left foot rest was far too small for my size 14s. I can't remember which cars at the motorshow I couldn't fit into.
  • Tyre Milage 4 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Having just changed all four tyres on my Renault Laguna yesterday,I was surprised to find that the tyres on the back were the original ones fitted from new. They were Pirelli P4000's and they had done 60195 miles and they were still not quite down to the wear bars.
  • Central Locking Problem 26 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I have central locking on my 1994 1.4 Rt Renault Clio - it operates the 2 front doors and the rear hatch simoultaneously. It now no longer unlocks or locks the rear hatch when activated, but works fine still on the front doors. I therefore have to lock/unlock the rear hatch manually.
  • AA 'BuyaCar' site 24 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Selected the manufacturers list, and attempted to scroll to Honda, only to find that 'what you see is what you get..' The only manufacturers supported are: BMW, Fiat, Ford, M-B, Peugeot, Renault, Rover, Vauxhall and VW. -no Honda. (or any other make) Seems a bit limited to me. Can anyone recommend a good site for low mileage secondhand vehicles, from personal experience? Many thanks, Peter.
  • Falling car prices 31 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I recently investigated buying a new (newer) car. But when I was told that the the trade-in value of my car a Renault Megane with all the extras was £4000 lower that what I paid last January I shelved the idea. One dealer said I hadn't necessarily been ripped off last January, but that all second-hand car prices had fallen dramatically - never those on the forecourts though.
  • Damn Stupid designs 15 Nov 2001 (Forum)
My GF has recently bought a Renault Clio. Great car, except ... the spare wheel It sits upside-down in its well, with a toolkit in the recess, and the whole thing is bolted down I discovered recently that to check the tyre pressure, you have to unbolt, take out toolkit, remove tyre, check the pressure, then pack the whole gubbins back again ...
  • '98 Clio service intervals. 18 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Got a Clio 1.2 petrol in tonight for its first MOT and 30,000ml service tomorrow. Chap had been quoted £300 for this MOT and "three yearly/36,000ml service" as the Renault dealer called it. Now the Car's service book and two other sources give 10,000ml intervals for this car with a small 10,000ml service, medium at 20,000mls, a small again at 30,000mls, a whopper at 40,000mls....and so on.
  • Renault Clio 2008 TomTom 16v 1.2 - MOT Major Failure 9 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Hi all I just bought this car last wednesday and had it in for an MOT and service the day after .It majorly failed its MOT and the garage has quoted me £1280 just for the repairs , the mechanic said something along the lines of for the dust cover failures for his type of car he can only get the parts from renualt and has to go into the subframe to access it and also for the door handle he will have to strip it down to find the problem ( which is obvious ) however again said he can only get the parts from renault and hence why the quote is so high . The parts he needed actually cost more than the labour. The headlights i know is something electrical and again he said it will need a new comms unit to fix ( something else very expensive ) but he also said all of this without really looking for the problems he said he ' just had a quick gander' .
  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 01 1.2 16v. cuts out whilst accelerating from idle 21 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I was now blocking the traffic so had to eventually push the car further down the road. I then tried to start it again and it fired up first time. I took the car to a Renault dealer last year with the fault. They did their diagnostic checks, removed and cleaned the throttle body fitted new gaskets and rectified an air leak - £157.00. It appeared to be okay but the problem soon returned.

Its now picking and choosing when its going to fire, if at all and even more worryingly decides to cut out (as if its stalled) whilst driving. I must admit i know nothing about cars apart from never to buy a clio or renault of any sort ever again. As i mentioned, my garage is fab but i get the impression that even they're a bit baffled, especially as when they just came to look at it it worked fine. They recently came back to see the car and have now witnessed the fault.
  • Renault Clio - Car rental company charging for damage 30 Jun 2010 (Forum)
There is a photocopy of my receipt with Hertz and my signature and the print of my credit card There is a close-up picture of the registration plate of the car which is the same as the one on the receipt There is a close up of a polished bonnet of a renault car but once again you cannot see the registration number At no point is the scratch of the car shown on the car with the number plate in evidence! I returned the car at the right time in the right place on the 5th June 2010 however the Hertz Incident Report Form is dated 11th June 2010 but there is no date, time, location on the incident report form and no signature of renter .They have also written NONE where question 8 LIABILITY  Do you consider yourself to blame?
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 1997 1.2 high idle and rough 31 Dec 2008 (Forum)
When reseting the ECU it last for 5-10 minutes of driving before idleing too high. I took it to Renault to get a diagnostic check - no faults on the ECU but cos it was idleing high they disconnected the battery to reset it and that fixed it. Of course by the time I got home it was idleing too high again!
