  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.8TDCi Locating turbo-intercooler pipe? 30 Oct 2009 (Forum)
So I took it into the local garage and they identified 2 faults that had been logged - one with the Turbo, and the other with the Fuel Pump. Since I only bought the car back in August (having only covered 32000 miles) they thought one may have been carried over from before, so they said I should keep driving the car until it happens again, so they can diagnose a problem.
  • Volkswagen Beetle (1998 - ) - 2001 2.0 engine emissions warning lamp 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Morning All, We have a 2001 VW Beetle 2.0 petrol, which has covered 88,000 miles. On the way home from work last night, the engine emissions warning lamp (I think it also doubles as an engine management warning lamp) flashed up. This was only about two miles from home and there was no apparent change in the performance of the car, so I carried on home.
  • Genuine Renault Parts ? returns policy!? 19 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I rang them to say can they order a new one in and I will go in when they have it to swap them over and give them the faulty one back ? they then said ?You will need to bring the car into us sir so we can verify the fault?. Now as the coil was dead the car could not be moved, they were expecting me to pay to have it recovered to them so they could look at a part they supplied only.
  • Anit-corrosion warranty 18 Sep 2002 (Forum)
A couple of months ago, someone in a 4x4 drove past me in a loose chippings stretch of road so fast that I was spattered with gravel and ended up with two chips in the paintwork on the nose of the car. I've just gotten round to getting the stone chip repair kit out of Halfords and did the smaller one first, in case I made a botch of it. I reckon I did a good enough job, but there is a noticeable difference between the "Flash Red" in the container and the "Flash Red" that covers the rest of my car - the touch-up paint is at least two shades darker and would look more noticeable on the bigger chip.
  • 21 Cent. Bike touring - it still works ! 12 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Bike swallowed the miles as if they weren't there, particularly enjoyable in the flooded Wye Valley including crossing a deepish Ford - big Wellie boot ! Cracking, cracking bike with very few vices. Covered in filth which added to my credibility in towns (:-)) for very little effort ! Rubbish horn. 700 miles covered. Rode this today from last night's stop with one stop for a drink en-route (and helmet fiddle) covered nearly 150 miles with no discomfort.
  • Nissan Note - Help needed - intermittent vehicle fault 26 Nov 2015 (Forum)
Again there were no engine management lights. I tried to restart the car and found that the brake had no play in it and I could not press it down, the car repeatedly failed to start. I tried the car again after five minutes and it started fine and I drove the return 23 mile journey.
  • VW Golf - Fault Claim - Dealing with the insurance company. 25 Oct 2015 (Forum)
My insurer initially advised that due to the age of my car they wanted to write it off. If this happens they will cancel my policy, and I'll have to buy a new car and a new policy (which doesn't seem fair when I have nearly a full year of cover left, which was paid in full).
  • Any VW/Audi etc - Why do people still buy VW group cars. 24 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Son owned a Diesel Toledo 1.9 130, nice enough car, but the heater matrix failed and the quite fantastically complicated job of stripping the entire dash assembly out which meant removing the front seats and centre console to gain access didn't endear it to either of us, replacing the standard radiator meant removing the entire front of the car too, CHG failure followed in short order...cheerio car at just over 100k.
  • Audi A6 2.7 tdi - Warranty - Petrol Contamination 24 Sep 2011 (Forum)
This isn't under warranty as it's not a failure of the car! " It was interesting that when I tried the car out, it was extremely low on fuel and the salesman put a very small amount in whilst on the test.  It was still reading in the red with the warning light on.
  • Advice after being sold an accident repaired car? 5 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Recently cleaning the car I had noticed the front drivers wheel arch starting to rust on the edge of the lip and found a 3 inch round scab on the drivers sill a thrid of the way down. After complaining to the garage they are not interested as the warranty we had only covers mechanical and not bodywork.
  • Hondadealers,High Expectations? 11 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I also mentioned about the car not having any AA cover in place ;quite important as I travel 70 miles to work at night on the motorway. The dealer said they would give me a call back. I was asked to return the car and they would change it for me plus reimburse me for the £37 of petrol that I had put in the Accord.

  • Vauxhall Astra - Passing on the inside - clipped wing mirror 21 Nov 2022 (Forum)
I think it isn't a police reportable incident (from what the Met site says) but should I report it to cover myself in case he does?
  • Audi A3 - Second hand car troubles - rights? 1 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I have called the dealer and they have asked me to bring the car in which I will be doing tomorrow. In the mean time I have taken the car to a garage I trust and they have told me the car has numerous fault codes on it one of which is for ignition coils 1 & 4 misfiring.
  • re-registering, MOT & tax 10 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Hi! I've just bought a car for my family. I bought if from a reputable trade seller, who, incidentally seemed like a genuinely nice, honest chap, FWIW... The car was owned from new by a leasing company, and was then bought at auction by my trade seller.
  • Renault clio Expression, 1.2 16v 2002. - 3rd party admitted liability, I want my car as it 6 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I called them yesterday morning and told them that my insurers had arranged repair and that a claims management firm had arranged a courtesy car. I asked if they'd like to provide all of this instead and possibly save themselves some money. They've agreed, my car has been collected this morning and courtesy car delivered at the same time. They also agreed to cover the cost of the CDW.
  • Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - 2000 TDI PD (115) Power Loss 29 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I have had this car from new since Sept. 2000 (pre face-lift model) and have covered 69,000 miles without trouble, however, in the last week or so, I have noticed that the car is VERY reluctant to rev beyond 2,800 to 3,000 rpm in fourth and fifth gear (sometimes third also).
  • Import of a used car from EU to UK 12 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I wondered if anyone had definitive answers to some queries I have: I'm considering buying a 40 year old car that's in The Netherlands, driving it to the ferry at Hook of Holland, and from Harwich back to my house.  The car would have a current dutch MOT and whatever their equivalent of Road Tax is, and I would have insurance to cover driving that car in the EU.
  • any - Modern petrol Estates - any known vices? 1 Aug 2024 (Forum)
We do everything with the car: short school runs, dog tasks, commutes, and the occasional 300-mile cross-country stint. We covered around 9500 miles last year, which is about right for us going forward. I'm looking with simplicity and travel comfort in mind, up to six years of age, about 520 litres of boot space with seats up, and I don't mind autos or manuals.
