  • Drink and Drug Drive Campaign 11 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The Christmas Drink and Drug Drive Campaign runs from Monday December 1 to Thursday January 1, 2009. Leicestershire's campaign supports the national Think! campaign - with brand new radio, internet and in-pub advertising - to remind drivers, and young men in particular: If you get caught drink driving you'll be processed like any other criminal. The consequences of being caught drinking and driving include: * You WILL be arrested, taken to a police station and charged. * You WILL receive a drink drive conviction and a criminal record. * You WILL receive a minimum 12-month driving ban. * You COULD be fined up to £5,000. * You COULD go to prison for up to six months. * You COULD lose your job or miss out on future jobs. * You WILL have higher insurance costs. * You WILL have to explain yourself to family, friends and your partner The Department for Transport has also funded new digital breath testing equipment which will be used by many forces, including Leicestershire.
  • Are small cars impractical for tall people? 16 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Open a paper or turn on the radio or TV these days and all the talk is about going gree, downsizing cars to save on fuel, tax and so on but... Are small cars such as the Yaris, Micra, Fiesta, Polo, etc, etc totally impractical for a tall people?
  • Legacy 2.5 Tourer - 40,000 mile report 22 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Seats good, easy to get a comfortable driving position, especially with elec adjustment of the drivers seat. Standard fit radio isn't outstanding but good enough for me. Climate control highly efficient but Mrs W describes it a draughty. You can't manually close the centre air vents which is a pain, but you can do it through adjusting the flow on the control panel.
  • New Toyota Hi-Lux 3 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Interior is a gloomy grey cloth so needs upgrading with leather throughout, that?s fairly cheap to do here, as I believe it is in TH. The sound system is excellent with radio, cassette, 6 CD changer and MP3. The size is just about right for conditions here, enough to intimidate the idiots as required but not so big as to be hard to manage and park, as was my Ford F-150.
  • Indirectly related to Susan's post 2 May 2005 (Forum)
This relates to Susan Parker's post about British cars (or lack of) overseas and a strange coincidence in my local bar last night on a similar subject A regular drinker pal is a well-known commentator on local radio on motoring and other matters and we were discussing (in the light of the 60 years since Berlin fell being currently celebrated) the parallel of the end of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines.

And so it was today I have been viewing and driving a '69 Fastback straight out of Bullitt in Angeles City Philippines on the old Clark Field aiurbase. 351 cu in. motor transplanted from a '71, Crane cams, Holley carbs, auto, new tires, metallic blue new paint job, some new gauges inside replacing the stock ones (I think she's been quarter-miled at some time), radio missing, car doubtless a legacy of the US air base at Clark. As always with these old big block live-for-ever Fords, whisper-quiet mechanically, no evidence of smoke but with the bellow of an enraged bull when floored, brutal acceleration, trans takes up with a postive clonk straight away, brakes with loads of travel but work fine, some evidence of the traditional Mustang overheating (it's 34 C today), the anti-diluvian Bendix a/c works fine (the seller has a car air-con shop!)

It also costs only a few shillings to fill up as opposed to most of the contents of my wallet. The radio is not the original and the Alpine replacement did fall out going over a speed bump and dangle by its wires but then one can't expect everything. My buyer wants to buy the Honda back when he has the cash.

panel to allow air conditioning to run when the car if left unattended, and infact, the air conditioning and heater can be controlled from up to 1500 metres away by radio handset. I have never really been one to admire anything Tutonic, but this car, especially with W12 engine, impressed me deeply. Can't wait for a drive later in the year on dry tarmac, if I'm allowed!
  • 2 weeks in the US - observations motoring & other 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The car itself was typical Amercan fare, lots of poorly fitting trim and fake wood, but with a great satellite radio (Sirius I think)- kids kept wanting radio 1 but 70's and 80's channels won the day! Could not really find traffic announcements but I think that was again similiar to the UK with most cars and say if you are on AM you can't receive FM traffic announcements.

I particularly like the controls for the heater/climate very easy to use.   The radio/media/nav/phone screen is nice and large -8 inch - easy to see and the femail satnav voice in english has already been christened "Mrs Miggins"  - very clear direction instructions. I haven't started to throw it about yet as I am getting used to LHD - the last time I drove LHD for more than a few minutes was in Sweden a long time ago.

Front fogs Parking sensors (camera instead) Self park Auto dipping rear view mirror Folding mirrors I was also surprised it didn’t have: DAB radio Xenon headlights Heating to the standard fit leather/alcantara seats I mentioned the safety fitments. I’ve turned them all off. The autobraking was far too sensitive and I don’t want constant warnings about being too close to the vehicle in front, if a car pulls out in front of me I can hardly help it!
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 02 1.6 Cutting Out at Speed 7 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I'm not a "useless" woman driver and I've got some theories on this - it doesn't seem to happen if I'm in 4th gear instead of 5th gear (although the engine doesn't particularly enjoy it) and also I think it might actually be the "easing off" the throttle that makes it happen rather than the speed I'm doing - although I've obviously got to slow down eventually! Are there any "wizards" out there who have got any ideas what it could be? I was having a new radio re-programmed on the car yesterday and the very helpful man did another diagnostic check and said that nothing at all came up - it hasn't happened for about 3 weeks (as I haven't been over 80mph) so I'm not sure how long the ECU remembers things for?!

  • Help me choose my dad?s next car... 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
It does need to be able to sit five and still have a good sized boot for holiday luggage. As a sports nut, he needs a radio with good reception (another XM gripe) and space enough for two sets of golf clubs with trolleys. The XM's lack of a/c has frustrated him on many occasions over the past 13 years but he has enjoyed the frugal and torquey diesel engine and, of course, the class leading comfort.

I took them out" "Seat belts hold you to the seat and make it difficult to move about, reach the radio, find your phone when it falls on the floor or light your cigarette. It is also difficult to eat while wearing one" "Seat belts are advisable for learner drivers and timid people. Once you have your license you shouldn't need them as you become more confident".

It contains a digital camera, a row of powerful light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and a battery recharged by solar power. The camera uses a radio transmitter to send a picture back to a control base. It is already employed at the entrance to the firm's offices in Romsey, Hampshire, using number-plate recognition to operate a barrier. A spokesman for the firm said it was also designed as a speed hump.

keys ? the car recognises each key and remembers the last setting of the mirrors, the aircon and the radio. Cool. You can set the near-side mirror to dip automatically when you engage reverse. You can drop stuff in the boot by lifting the rear window (as an alternative to opening the rear hatch). There?

Everything is well laid out and easily to hand with steering wheel controls for the Cruise/Speed control and a remote lever thing for the radio, which I guess is Renault standard having seen the same controls in a white diesel Kangoo van. The centrally placed information centre is digital and very clear. The only issue is with the rev counter that sits behind and is obscured by the steering wheel.
  • Ford Mondeo MK3 2.0 TDCI 2005 - What is wrong with my car? 6 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Upon accelerating my car began to lose power and slow back down, I find myself accelerating harder to compensate for this power loss, I noticed that whenever i accelerated harder the car would put a puff of white smoke behind it acompanying this white smoke was a loud metallic grinding noise, loud enough to be heard over a playing radio. I carried on until finding a safe place to stop and then turned the engine off, lifted the bonnet and checked the oil, coolant and for anything that looked out of place in the engine bay. I decided to try and start the car and was sucessful after the engine turned over a few more times then usual.
