Toyota Yaris - Replacement car for daughter 25 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Possible net gain around £500/750 after paying for repairs and expenses This would optimise finances but a lot of, potentially carless, faff getting the work done and putting up with tyrekickers etc for a modest gain. A degree of pressure to get another car to fill the gap. C – Trade in now and accept the inevitable The easiest but most expensive route forward. -

Vauxhall Astra - Bought a car - dealership lied about the condition 18 Aug 2018 (Forum)
When i report the issue i had this car for a month and a week (5weeks) I reject the car, did not collect it and i told branch manager that i will call HP finance company and tell them about everything but he was not shocked or anything just ignored me. They parked my car on the back and left me with nothing. Do i have any stands on this? -
Volkswagen - Consumer Rights Act 8 Jul 2017 (Forum)
In mid October 2015, I took delivery of a brand new VW, from a distant VW dealer, financed on a VW Solutions PCP. It was, and still is, intended as a "keeper" for my remaining years. The PCP was paid off in full within 4 months - so first question is whether VW Solutions have any remaining liability under CRA . -
Why are dealer lease deals more expensive than those online? 18 Feb 2017 (Ask HJ)
I'm moving towards leasing my next car, previously always having bought cash. However, the dealer lease deals seem more expensive than those offered online.... -
BMW 320d ED 4dr vs Mondeo Titanium - New job, new car = Mondeo or 3 Series 12 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Can be automatic or manual I will be getting 6k / year car allowance, so maybe around £500/month to spend on getting the car, i can finance myself if needed rather than through trader.... Annual Milleage likely to be no more than 25k . (maybe allow 30k for peace of mind, it's a car afterall and should be driven!) -
Legal Advice required 12 Jan 2016 (Forum)
They said it was bad fuel, or a struggling engine. Turned out to be a bent drive shaft. I complained to my finance company and they did a full investigation including a court approved engineer to confirm the dealer had repaired it incorrectly, which has potentially caused further damage to the car. They even broke something else on the car. -
LandRover Freelander 2 - Land Rover ongoing costs 10 May 2015 (Forum)
After complaining finally got 10% off but really not happy given how long I know my brakes etc lasted when driving the model before so must have been very worn when they did the approved car check. I'm now wondering whether to cut my loses and sell he car, it's on finance through Landrover so need to make sure the remainder will be covered given this experience. My worry is am I regularly going to get bills of this size in which case it makes sense to get rid of it and go back to a cheaper brand but from new so I don't have the uncertainly. -
Mercedes c220 cdi se exec , reg June 2012 - catastrophic engine failure 13 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I bought the car at a trade auction from Mercedes retail finance in December 2013 with 18k miles. On 23rd March 2015 whilst driving about 40 mph on the A127 flyover the car started to shake violently and send out a lot of exhaust fumes. -
Mini Cooper - Help urgently needed, please =( 10 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hello, I'm new and hoping you lovely people could offer me some advice on a recent Mini Cooper 54 I've just purchased, costing £6,299: I bought the car on finance from a small dealer on Saturday. It went for a service on the Monday-was taken by the dealer to Mini, and they discovered a slight leak of gearbox oil coming from passenger side driveshaft. They thought it would just be the seal, so the dealer booked it into the gargage-at no cost to me because the car has 3 months warranty. -
My wife is car hunting alone! 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
and dealers have increased asking prices by at least £500-1000. She found one for sale privately, but a HPI check revealed outstanding finance, despite the seller stating she paid cash for the car when we asked her directly, so we walked. With nothing better to do than surf the net my wife has now found two more ? both 12 months old, 5 door Sport with aircon. -
Advice/input re 75 buying decision 23 Sep 2002 (Forum)
He tells me that the car was one of the fleet run by Rover management itself, has full Rover history (last serviced at 73k and says he will do another before it leaves his forecourt), is in immaculate condition, has no outstanding finance, did mostly motorway miles and has never been in an accident. He says he can put me in touch with the previous owner to verify this and can do any RAC/HPI check. All sounds fairly good, so my only concern is with the mileage. -
Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 - Tiguan 7 speed DSG gearbox dead after 30k miles 5 Apr 2021 (Forum)
The workshop manager has informed me that he's going to try and get 'goodwill' from factory/fleet/dealership but I'm not holding my breath as it turns out 'factory' have already said no. The car is due to run out on finance in 2 weeks time and I'm trying to figure out what to do. I've raised a case with VWUK customer services and am awaiting a call back from VWFS but everything seems to be taking an age. The car was serviced 1 week prior to this occurring and has a FDSH. -
Mazda 6 Tourer - From company car to car allowance 25 Dec 2019 (Forum)
The new firm don’t offer a company car, only an allowance, in this case £400 per month, (pre tax) with business mileage reimbursed at a rate I think being 12p per mile for the business use. The question is what’s the best way of financing the new car, used? Pre reg? Leased? and what should the replacement be? I could spend up to £17-18k but hopefully less and would need to change the car once it was 6 years old due to company rules. -
Hyundai i30 - £500 deposit returns policy and rights 11 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I asked if I should test drive one they had here and he said no we can get this one in. I then said I would want finance and so he did all the credit chequers to see if I was eligible and I was. I signed some paperwork but again said if I sign all this that dos not mean I was definately getting this car. He said not. -
Ford Fiesta - Fatal, non-fault, crash 27 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I can't afford to pay for hire or purchase one that is fit for the task, my current car is on finance/lease, which I still need to pay. I face losing both my two jobs as I can't get to either of them without a car. Feel as though I am being prosecuted due to someone else and there poor driving. All I want is a car so I can do my jobs. -
Volkswagen Golf - Help a young female buy a Golf please! 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Car dealers spot me, see me coming and add an extra £1000 on, no doubt. When I was 18 I bought a Renault Clio (used) 1.2 for £6,000. Plus £2,000 for the privilege of a finance option. I didn't even query it - I just walked in and signed on the dotted line. Many years later, after finally paying it off and being in a good financial position, I'm looking to upgrade. I have done some research and the car I'm going to go for is definitely a Golf. -
Paperwork for buying a used car 15 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I am supposed to be going to the dealership tomorrow to fill in any paperwork and to pay (I am paying cash, no financing) and collect the car. The only issue is that they have told me that there will be a delay of several hours from me signing the paperwork (including the sales invoice/contract) until I can pay and take the car away. -
FAQs 16 May 2003 (Forum)
Perhaps that helps to explain why many people simply bypass your excellent and ever-expanding FAQ site - I'm just worried you'll come on here after a bad day and blow a fuse when someone has asked "Where can I buy cars in the UK at close to mainland European prices? Also tell me import warranties and import finance."!!! All t'best Dan J -
Motability 28 Jan 2001 (Forum)
I know that they enjoy certain advantages due to their charitable status. However my first car through Motability was financed through VW Financial Services on the same terms as I get now and I am fairly confident that their motives were not entirely charitable. Finally I thought of buying a low-mileage second-hand car using some savings which I am fortunate now to have as a deposit, using my Disability Living Allowance to pay instalments, insurance and servicing over 4-5 years and then keeping it for a further 4-5 years allowing me then to blow my Allowance on riotous living.
