Damage caused when parking sensors were fitted 23 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I had to have my car recovered today as it cut out whilst I was driving. It was recovered to an audi dealership who have found that it was caused by the wiring for the parking sensors that I had fitted back In February. When the fitter installed the wiring he has dislodged the pipes that prevent water leaking into the boot. -
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate - Any quality car with comfortable 5th adult seat? 28 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I need plenty of luggage space as my kids will be going through university, and a comfortable cruiser as the first is now living 600 mile round trip away. I have checked the new Audi a6 and latest e class but neither seem great. Anyone have a car they would recommend? I certainly don't want to go back to MPV land! -
VW Passat 2012 - VW ditch unreliable piezo injectors on '12 diesels 2 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Anyone contemplating the purchase of a diesel VAG vehicle might be well advised to consider the two designs very carefully and possibly wait for the solenoid/AdBlue update. Bedtime reading - as usual: http://152.66.93.29/audi/download/vw/passat/2012%20passat.pdf 659. -
Pegeot 307 5 Dr AC 110HDI - New Car - which one Pug 307, has got to go... 10 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Need some thing similar but with a better reliability record and if possible, better fuel econcomy. Looked at Audi A3 but they are probably just out side our budget and seen used with 70K miles for £10K. Don't want new but around 1-2 years old budget around £9K, might push it to £10. Thanks in advance -
Volkswagen VW Golf TDI - VW Golf TDI 1.9 Vs 2.0 - any real difference? 2 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The 2.0 tdi looks far better on paper but seems to have a sportier setup and am looking for comfort rather than harsh suspension. Also, after looking at Audi 2.0 tdi's track record, there seems to be complaints about oil pump failures with this VAG engine, whereas the 1.9 105bhp seems pretty good. Any comments greatly appreciated. PS sorry if this questions has been asked before, I did a search but could not find a thread! -
Bmw e39 - want to upgrade is there any point 17 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hi i currently own and run a bmw e39 525d manual on a 03, i need a estate and want a auto and somthing more comfertable as well, but dont know wheather i should put up with my £6,500 bmw to buy a newer car maybe newer 5 series or audi a6 and pay round £15,000 for the one i would want. The e39 is a brilliant car some say best bmw have made and that its better than alot of cars today as well so just wondering is it worth bothering with. -
Snow tyres, 4x4 etc etc 13 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Only one of my colleagues have a 4x4 (subaru) but by law they do need to have winter tyres fitted (studded or non-studded) each and every winter. I have a 1997 Audi A4 and with winter tyres (unstudded) I can get around no worries. I should also add that (at least in the UK) unless you are an essential worker why do you want to drive out in poor weather? One must remember that although you might be in a bullet proof 4x4 the guy in the Fiesta skidding into your rear, or the 20T lorry jack knifing across the road isn't. -

Fuel efficiency of older diesel cars 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Can I assume that this kind of MPG for a 2.7 litre has something to do with the lighter weight of taxis relative to other cars or is this just an average MPG to be expected even from a big diesel engine in town. Would something like an Audi, or BMW diesel with the same engine size be doing much less than 25 - 30mpg in town? -
large diesel estate - XM? 25 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I keep looking around to see what large diesle estates are about but there isnt much choice. bmw 5 series is too small. passat/a6 are OK, but we've had several audi, merc E-class is expensive plus the rust and diesel reliability put me off. Anyway, I have been thinking about an XM, would I be mad? Im told that the suspension is more reliable than people think. -
Smart move? 30 May 2006 (Forum)
Enjoyed the test drive... both son's need something to practice in when they're learning. I shall miss the 'K' plate Audi 80 Avant, if only because it was handy for taking rubbish to the tip! I think that, because they've ceased production, it might be more desirable when I eventually come to sell. I know it will have lost some of it's "fashion" value, but 3 years down the line, if you were offered a Mitsubishi Colt or a Forfour, which would you choose? -
Focus - new or old? 16 Feb 2006 (Forum)
So which model would backroomers recommend for a 'keeper' - SWMBO does about 12k miles a year and tends to keep cars for some time (the Passat's done 165k and this replaced an Audi 100 with 190k on the clock!). -
Laguna DCi 130 v Golf 105 v A3 2.0 tdi? 12 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I am leaning toward to the 140ps A3 (in standard trim level) because of the torquey engine (I currently have an ageing 405 TD estate so anything will seem quick!). The Audi is fairly spartan but has good residuals which mean a good lease cost and therefore lower contribution from yours truly. I don't like the look of the MkV Golf (SWMBO does though!) but seems to get good reviews and the Renault seems well specced in Expression trim & the Dci unit seems well regarded. -
Octavia VRs "51" Dirty MAF 27 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Have looked at a few threads on other sites which allude to a problem with the "MAF" getting dirty/contaminated and therefore unable to function; I think that the part I had replaced was indeed a MAF. Clearly I can't keep doing that, and I was also wondering why Audi TT owners don't seem to register the same problem?? Hope someone may have a few clues?? -
SWMBO's new car - pass the Prozac 1 Nov 2004 (Forum)
This is not going to be a fun time for me, the list of musts and must nots is growing by the second. - it must be smaller than the A6 (easy); - it must not be an Audi or a VW, neither of us likes the new A3 or the A4 and the local dealer has been useless of late; - it must be petrol, she only does 6000 miles a year and has hated the various diesels we have owned / been loaned; - it must not be a BMW; - it must not be a Citroen, a salesman at the local dealer was rude to her dad; - it must have climate control; - it must not have leather seats; - it must have 5 doors; - it must be as comfortable and "high quality" as the A6; - it must not be a 4x4; It will take months won't it? -
car with easy & high access 7 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Wondering if anyone had any suggestions. SWMBO has a lovely 96P Audi A4 Avant but I think that she wants to change it as she is killing her back by putting our disabled son into his seat in the back. He is quite a lump even at the age of 3!! Is there a car on the market that has higher back seats that would put a lot less strain on her back? -
Bitter Disappointment... 10 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Was at local Audi dealer looking at a lovely A4 Cabriolet, recently offered for sale... Test drive went well, part-ex discussions seemed tough, but then I do have a well-used 12-year old BMW 318! Salesman hinted that if my figure was accepted would we have a deal and I said yes. -
A6 2.5 tdi oil level query 2 Jun 2004 (Forum)
He took it back to his dealer who drained some of the oil down until it was at the correct level. The next day it was over the max mark again. Rang the dealer (main Audi) who said they could not understand it. This time they drained the oil and re-filled with the correct volume less half a pint. The next day he checked it and it was over the max mark again. It has got the dealer very puzzled. -
Low Fuel Consumption 29 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I was expecting at least 40 mpg out of it! What could I do to improve the consumption? I bought a car from an Independant VW/Audi garage, who mainly deal second hand motors. Also, brakes squeak while driving at low speeds and when turning corners. Have taken it back to the dealer who has taken the wheel off, checked the pads and disks and found nothing wrong! -
Urgent help required Passat Tdi 97 25 Jun 2003 (Forum)
After a couple of attempts, we got it going, but it sounded like a bag of spanners. RAC man immediately phoned his once Audi servicer friend who diagnosed that the timing may be out. After dropping the car off at VW garage to be fixed, I was told that the timing couldn't possibly be out after an alternator belt snapping and it could be more serious.
