  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 Frozen boot lock 1 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Last winter, we found that the boot wouldn't open when it got really cold out. Often it would only open after the car had been on a run with interior toasty warm for say 30 mins. The rest of the time, whilst the temp was still v low outside, it would stay shut. Spraying antifreeze around does no good. Today, it's worse than last year as the boot stayed shut all day despite 2 longish runs (45 mins each).
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2002 2.0 90 bhp hdi engine will not start 3 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The engine went in limp mode when low on fuel?.(did not run out just light on) refueled and drove home with the engine light on max rev 2500. day after would not start. There is a bulb to press for the fuel a couple of squeazes, she starts then immediately stops and strangely the head lights come.
  • Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 03 1.9TDI - stuck bonnet 12 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi There, New to the forum here, but hoping that someone can help me out. I'm running low on oil and screen-wash, but can't get my bonnet open. The release catch inside the car works fine, but the lever that pulls through the grill isn't releasing the catch. I've given up on brute force, as I nearly pulled the grill off, and WD40 hasn't done anything either.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 (petrol) engine oil level 17 Aug 2008 (Forum)
In the Owner's guide it says : "For an exact reading a cold engine should be run for a short time. Switch the ignition off and wait some minutes for the engine oil to flow back into the sump." From what I have said do you think I have too much oil in my engine ?
  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - Are LPG cars in demand? 31 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hello all I'm thinking of changing car due to an increasing family, and currently have a 2001 520 SE Manual (90k leather, etc) that I had converted to LPG two years ago with a Romano sequential system (tank in wheel well) that cost me £1600. Runs like a dream, very smooth and can't really feel a loss in power. With the current price of petrol, and the relatively lower cost of running on gas, would I get more for my car than an unconverted one?

Renault dealers won't touch it cos of the lpg conversion. Any help appreciated.

  • Nissan Micra (2003 - 2010) - 03 1.0 16 valve K12 - EML on 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi everyone , i have a problem with my micra its a k12 model 1.0 16v on an 03 plate , it has covered 26k , the car has developed a problem my eml came on and my autodiagnos brought up the problem of a crank shaft position sensor being at fault , i changed the sensor in the gearbox and the cam sensor in the head at the same time and reset the light , all is well with running when the car is warm , but when starting from cold the idle speed raises and drops till the car is driven , the light comes straight back on and the car feels underpowered , the same fault indicating the crank sensor at fault , but if i run the engine till its warm reset the eml and drive its fine can drive as far as i like until , its left over night and started in the morning from cold and the eratic idle starts and the light comes on as i pull off the drive , any help is welcomed , many thanks .
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.6 dualfuel LPG engine keeps cutting out. 8 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Almost as if fuel is not getting through? Running on petrol is (now since EGR was replaced last week) 100% ok though. Any pointers please? It is going back to the dealership I procured this from for them to look at as my local Vauxhall is not LPG authorised.

  • Air conditioning option - car not used regularly. 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I know you need to exercise air con to keep the seals in good order, but with my pattern of usage, and the fact that in spring or autumn the ambient temperature does not need modifying, am I likely to have problems? Or is it one of those things that a switch on and couple of minutes running is as good as a longer spell? I might go and annoy the dealer on Saturday.

  • Peugeot 306 Diesel Head Gasket 6 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Oil hasnt any white deposits and not throwing out white smoke from exhaust. If the problem is simpler than head gasket it would be really good. The car runs fine when driving. Look forward to hearing from anyway who can help.

  • Why boycott BP & Esso? 22 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Now this e-mail says that it should be BP & Esso that are boycotted (who its says are now one company which I was not aware of) but why BP & Esso, is there a conspiracy going on here? Also the guys that run my local BP garage seem like nice people, they run a great local service by way of a Spar convenience store, I would not want to see their livelyhood jepordised by such action. Futhermore there is a fatal flaw in the whole argument, if I ran a BP or Esso station and sales dried up for a few days, yet alone months, I would be on the phone to Shell, Texaco, etc to see who could offer me a favourable contract.
  • Calibra turbo strange behaviour 8 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The car has had new turbo wastegate recently and usually passes an MOT apart from when it goes mental and runs too rich for no discernable reason. When it runs right then it is right at the bottom of the scale for emissions which makes it seem like it is an electrical or logic fault. It has been doing it for over 2 years at various intervals.
  • BMW 5 series 1990 E34 3 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I realise that if I was crazy and took it to a BMW garage it would cost an arm and a leg, and that it is likely to cost more than a ford fiesta to run. However does anybody know how much more these cars cost to run, in terms of deposable parts? I imagine body panels will cost a lot, but with cars of this age, whether the part costs £400 or £1000 doesn't really matter, I am not going to buy it either way.
