  • Let the good times roll 4 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Following on from teabelly's thread about best motoring moments, what's everyones favourite motoring moment(s)? Mine? a) Realising that the car hire firm had screwed up the booking for a Laguna and I'd be driving a 3.0V6 Avantime around the amazing roads of Corsica for a week, and driving that week b) Cruising around Newcastle in a brand new Merc E-class when my own car was a Maestro, listening to Nat King Cole "There may be trouble ahead" Probably many more but that'll do to start with.
  • '85 golf gti starting trouble 24 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I started driving the golf after a few months off the road and within a couple of days the engine was playing up. It starts but within 5-10 seconds it cuts out. Eventually the engine would start and when driving it seemed fine.
  • more roadworks 28 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Now, seeing how so many cars seem to drive on cycle lanes, and coupled with the fact that cyclists will also be forced off the pavements and onto the cycle lanes, this seems to me an accident waiting to happen. HF
  • Yaris 14 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Totally unimpressed so didn't even bother with a test drive.
  • Fiat punto at high (ish) speeds 3 Feb 2002 (Forum)
My wife drives a Fait Punto, Y reg, with about 3500 miles on the clock. Recently we have found that when she drives at about 70mph on the motorway the car occasionally appears to be out of control. The effect is something like being blown to the left by a sudden gust of wind but happens even on windless days.
  • Consultants? 1 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Theory probably has some merit but you gotta be suspious of these alleged experts as I'm sure these people will be in a position to absorb any extra costs as they drive past the plebs waiting for a mythical bus/train to turn up. I know, don't smile while you drive and they won't think you're having any fun.
  • BMW 523 electrical problem 6 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Hes been having a few problems with the battery going flat when left for extended periods of time (=>3/4days). Its not due to driving short distances as he drives to carlisle and back from nottingham each week. He has had a brand new BMW battery and the problem still persists. It seems to me like there is some kind of grounding happening somewhere when the ignition is off.
  • Cavalier 1.7TD Weird Sound 22 May 2001 (Forum)
I have a 94 Cavalier 1.7TD - a couple of day ago it developed a weird sound from the back passenger side corner. When driving along it sounds like something compressing/decompressing (i.e a dual sound compress/decompress as per a bicycle pump). It will only happen maybe 3/4 times in a half hour drive, but when parked up I cant replicate the noise by 'bouncing' the car.
  • Driving costs. 31 Jan 2001 (Forum)
How about a good discussion about reducing the cost of motoring. E.g how many motorists shop around for their insurance?.I myself saved a considerable...

  • Mazda 2 - Honda Jazz - Toyota Auris - Help Finding The Most Reliable Car 16 Jan 2025 (Forum)
Hi, My bulletproof 2007 Kia Ceed 1.6 Auto Petrol is getting on a bit and I'm exploring "new" cars. I want one with cheap road tax (under £35), as a I don't drive very often (2k to 3k a year). It needs to be around the same cargo size as my Ceed. Ideal for upto two kids in the future. Because I don't drive often, I'm ruling out out hybrids as I'm worried I'll damage the battery by not driving it.
  • Research Hazard Prediction while driving test! :) 13 Jan 2023 (Forum)
:)   I am a postdoctoral researcher at NTU and am undertaking a research project about driving and dyslexia. I need your help with the first of a series of surveys that will be included in my research project. This research is not funded and I have run it past the forum moderator, who has completed the test and found it fun.
  • Zafira 1.9CDTI SRi - cutting out while driving! HELP 14 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I have a 2006 Zafira 1.9 CDTI SRi. Done 120k. I havnt had this for long only about 6 weeks and i have rarely been able to drive it!! The dash lights will light up, if i turn the key straight away it just attempts to start and just turns over.
  • BMW X3 - Family Car 2 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Cabin space increase is not saying much really as the C Class hasquite limited legroom and headroom and most family cars seem larger these days. Higher driving position is more as I am tall (6' 3) and want to sit a bit higher in my seat. Off road and snow driving ability doesn't necessarily mean 4x4 as we don't live up a rubble track or anything (very small lanes and lots of reversing, but not much off road), it's just the C Class is totally useless, particularly in the snow as it is RWD.
  • Ford Fiesta. - Driving without displaying a valid RFL 2 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I bought a car today from CarGiant and had insurance for seven days from Aviva (and a current MOT) to drive it back to my home. In the back of my mind I know that it is a strict liability offence to drive a motor vehicle on a public highway without displaying a vaild RFL. The only exception I could find was if the vehicle is displaying "trade plates".
  • Bank holiday driving 25 Apr 2011 (Forum)
This afternoon i was driving down the dual carraigeway, in front of me was a Vauxhall Astra who forgets to look before they pull out, to the left of me is a driver in a Shogun on his phone, possibly talking to the guy behind him in a Mercedes C Class who was also on phone, quick glance in the rear view mirror sees a Corsa with a girl texting at the wheel, and all mixing in with foreign lorry drivers who still cant grasp we drive on the left.
  • Motorway driving standards 26 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I had a particularly frustrating drive down a section of the M4 in heavy spray this morning.  Lane 1 was almost empty, as usual there were a few members of the Centre Lane Owners' Group (CLOGs) in lane 2, and the consequence was that lane 3 was nose to tail with drivers staying out there for mile after mile, many driving much closer than seemed wise.
  • Unusual Insurance problem? 10 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Two months ago, I got my full British driving license, having passed my driving test at first attempt. A month ago I bought a Honda Accord executive diesel 2005 Reg. Then my problem started. Almost all insurance companies refused to offer me motor insurance of any kind saying I was uninsurable including Churchill that had my name on their insurance register for almost a year.
