Rover 214 intermittant fault 1 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Occasionally it dies whilst driving, sometimes ,it recovers, once or twice it has stalled and not re-started, however having been left for 5-10 mins it starts o.k. Today it wouldn't start from cold ( unusual, as it is more problematic while half warm) and the battery went down. I got it going with jump leads and a shot of easy start, but I haven't cured the fault. Any ideas ? Gratefully received . -
Rover having a laugh! 25 Feb 2002 (Forum)
One of my remote plips has died on me - tried changing the batteries and using the reprogramming sequence, but the light doesn't come on when its pressed and it seems dead. Those dandy highwaymen at Rover want to charge me 50 quid (50 quid for a tiny circuit board and piece of plastic!) -
The dreaded 1.1 Fiesta 19 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Our 1995N 1.1 Fiesta (73,000 miles) has developed a habit of starting OK, running for 2-300 yards, stopping, then refusing to start. This tends to happen when slowing down to negotiate a junction. There's plenty of life in the battery, but it won't fire. If you then tow it, it will start and run perfectly well. The breathers have been cleaned, it does some decent runs, and the oil is the correct grade. I suspect something is going awry with the engine management system. -
Security Codes 10 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Hi, My son has removed the battery from his Nova , and when replaced has found that the radio requires a security code.(which he hasn`t got) He has tried to obtain this code from the previous owner and the local Vauxhall dealer , to no avail. -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 02 1.8 Various electrical problems 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I tried to start it again but starter did not turn engine. Only warning lights were on. I then jumped out and removed the ground cable from the battery in case there was some big short circuit. I put a charger on the battery and charged it for some hours and then made a new try. The starter was now turning the engine but it did not ?promise? anything tied for about 15s (sounded like it was not igniting). -
Selling a car with the least amount of hassle . 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I have tried online valuation sites which give an estimate of its £4k, but it has been sitting for three months, needs a thorough clean, has some damage to the front wheel arch where it hit a fence. and the battery is dead so not expecting the full amount... i I took some photos today, thinking I could upload them to the Motorway website when I got home , but later realised their process requires using the app in real-time. -
Vauxhall Tigra 2009 - Hydraulic pump replaced now boot/roof won't open 19 Aug 2024 (Forum)
Motor is whirring like it's trying to open the boot but only moves slightly up a cm or 2, but it will lock fine. I haven't dared try the roof so far. I have disconnected the battery for a bit, and cheked battery voltage which is alright . Is it the motor or has the wd40 damaged anything? Not sure what I may have done wrong or what the issue is now. Bit of a long one apologies. -
BMW 1 Series 2019 - Why doesn't my subwoofer have much woof?!! 6 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I know the wires are messy - I was planning to solder them once I had it working properly. The battery and fuse box are in the boot of my car. - The power cable goes directly to the positive terminal of the battery. - Ground wire to a bolt on the chassis. - I used a fuse piggyback thingy to connect the remote wire to the fuse for the 12v sockets. -
Audi A3 - Spontaneous combustion 1 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Fortuantely our neighbour came round and decided the best course of action would be to disconnect the battery. They managed to open the door and pull the bonnet release. The car was full of smoke with the source of the fire being under the dash on the passenger side. They got the battery out and the fire died. -
Jaguar XF - P052F Glow Plug Module Fault Code (No symptoms) 28 Dec 2022 (Forum)
I've just had a new battery fitted to my 2015 X250 XF 3.0 S and before and after fitting the battery, the mechanic plugged in an Autel scanner and the only fault code that came up was PO52F, a permanent fault with the Glow Plug Module System. -
Any - Recovery Services - Not Even Same Day! 10 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Possibly a predictable event but a family member had a low battery warning and decided the car, which started, needed a run out. It ran for five miles and died with no power whatsover in a dark country lane. The car, nearly new, automatically phoned JLR who said I believe you have broken down. -
Tesla still out front 6 Oct 2021 (Forum)
So while the big manufacturers are starting to get their acts together, it seems they still have work to do regarding battery management, a lot in the case of Polestar. -
Renault Grand Scenic - Renault Scenic no parking brake and "no faults"! 17 Mar 2019 (Forum)
There are no sounds from the motors and no response from the switch (the light just flashes red all the time). I have tried re-using the yellow pull lever and testing again to no avail. I have had the battery off for 30 min and no difference. -
Vauxhall Corsa - Corsa won't start after months without use 12 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I've been trying to get it to start since April, wanting to MOT the car and sell it. -First, the battery was dead. So I went and bought a new battery and replaced it. -Car still wouldn't start, and figured it would need new petrol, so I added some (not a full tank, but about a can-full). -
Nissan Micra se 2003 - Can I use a 2nd starter button with original one? 7 Dec 2017 (Forum)
I've read that this could be down to interference. But I have found that disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery seems to sort it out. Also If I leave it for a while and try again it will start OK (must pick up the key fob signal). What I want to know is if I wire up a new momentary start switch, with it's own separate wiring, with one going to the battery (with an in line fuse) and the other one to the small wire on the starter. would this work OK or could it cause problems. -
Renault grand scenic 1.9 DCI 2004 - Steering fault advice 20 Oct 2017 (Forum)
So....last week I had a steering fault show on the dash and the steering went super heavy, then the car died, we had the car recovered to Renault who charged us £200 for a diagnosis and put the fault as the battery so £120 for a new battery and Renault confirmed this solved the issue. Skip to 48 hours later I jump in the car and what comes up on the dash?? You got it 'steering fault' So we got the AA out who plugged in their machine and confirmed it's the steering motor so needs a new column. -
Nissan Juke 2015 - Heads up for Nissan Juke owners 2 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Only last week, the car was back at the dealer to rectify a stop/start fault, which I was informed was a 'faulty battery'. Shocking that a new battery has not lasted 2 years/40,000 miles and I'm not a prolific user of stop/start. Will update when the air con parts are fitted. -
Nissan Almera Tino - Car stalling out 1 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Nothing looked rusted, loose, or worn enough to cause it to stall, nothing came up on diagnostics. The battery is fine, the fuel line pressure was fine, nothing seemed clogged. I had the heating running on the 15th and 18th, not on the 17th. Today when I was driving it there was a lot of hot air coming from the windscreen vents but I left the fan and heating off. -

Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 Instrument cluster fault symptoms 10 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Ford dealer failed to identify a fault a few months ago (when in warranty) and now wants to charge me to fix an as yet undiagnosed problem - open cheque. The dealer is saying their diagnostics now suggest the alternator is overcharging but the battery isn't "cooked", no bulbs have gone and an independent garage tested it at 16V which sounds OK to me. The dealer is suggesting it could also be the instrument cluster but they cannot check this because the test stops at the alternator check!
