  • driving lesson ? 3 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I asked my wife had she observed the event, but her attention had been distracted by a hub cap bowling by us and down the road. Perhaps an unscheduled and expensive first driving lesson ?
  • Petrol or Diesel? 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Most days i have a 22 mile round trip to work on a mix of roads (dual carriage way then 30mph through a village followed by 60mph single carriageway roads before a short spell in 30mph to the town centre and reverse on way home) and traffic jams not usually much of an issue but would this drive be enough to prevent a clogged dpf?   Every second sunday we have a 35 mile drive to the wife's family, bit of shopping and 35 miles back home. The trips to and from family involves a good 25 mins of motorway driving.
  • Icy crash insurance question 9 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Well, its finally happened. After 13 and a half years of collision free bus driving, I was driving my bus this morning and came across a minor accident that was blocking the road. I pulled into the side of the road a short distance away whilst the two drivers exchanged details, and sat there with my hazard lights on to warn traffic approaching behind me.
  • 08 PLATE VW GOLF - Test drive...Golf problems...HELP! 29 Feb 2012 (Forum)
When i started the engine i felt a juddering from underneath, which i put down to the car being cold and having been sat on the garage forecort. As i was driving it, i noticed the exhaust was noisy so pulled over an revved the car, it sounded like it was mis firing so assumed it was the coil pack which didn't bother me too much. Took it back to the garage and then a light came on on the dash, the exhaust light... but it was flashing, anyone know what that means?

    * Pull over to the side of the road and settle any arguments and disputes that may erupt in the car. * Never, never, never apply makeup or eat or even read anything when driving!

I also hold comprehensive insurance for my own vehicle. both of us were under the impression that we were covered by our comprehensive insurance to drive any car. After dropping my wife to the airport i returned home and parked my wife's car on the drive and went to work in my own vehicle. When i returned home later that evening my wife's car was gone and the lights to the house were on.
  • What car should I buy? 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi all, We're looking to buy a new car. Currently driving a 1.4 Petrol Peugeot 206, but looking to upgrade. I recently had a BMW 1 Series 2.0 diesel for a month, and loved the drive & power - so ideally looking for something with similar power but that looks a bit nicer than the BMW.
  • suzuki swift 1.5 auto - Problems with the auto gearbox of suzuki swift 1.5 18 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Now it is out of warranty (by 6 weeks) and has completely stuck and will never go into Drive, 1st or 2nd gear.  I therefore have had to drive it in 3rd for a week before a new part could be found.  I was without a vehicle for a whole week while a part (a lever for the gearbox) was in transit from Germany and only drove it 3 times before the same problem arose.
  • ford focus 1.5 automtic diesel - transmission faliure 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I have a Ford Focus  1.5 auto diesel and today  a message came up which said transmission faliure and then after about 15 min when I was trying to go over a speed bump the car stopped and would not move forward, (luckily no traffic) I turned the car off and then turned it back on after about 2 mins and it was fine. Driven it  this evening and it seems fine. The car is driving well and the message has not come up. There were two things I wanted to ask really, the first is what could have caused it? and the second is i'm driving to SWales on Saturday (approx 4 hour drive) will the car be safe?
  • None ... that's the problem - Driving Exam Question 22 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Can anyone advise if you had a faulty fuse on an old Punto which was causing the window wipers to stay on would a driving examiner have the right to refuse to let you sit your test? Problem for me is that tomorrow morning I'm supposed to be sitting mine, in my Mum's old banger and today it has started acting up.
  • 2002 Audi A3 1800 T sport auto - Traction control fault 11 Sep 2010 (Forum)
If the fault occurs in heavy traffic it is difficult and dangerous for her to drive and it is not easy to pullover, switch off and restart the engine.  I would appreciate any suggestions for a cure. Thanks.
  • Morris - Seeking advice for the vertically challenged. 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
It may seem folly to want a car that I've never driven but that's not really the issue I'm trying to address here. Will I be tall enough to drive a Morris Minor? Am I likely to need pedal extenders? If so would they be suitable for a Morris? Most of my fellow short-stacks seem to drive things like Micras, Corsas, Fiestas or Kas. I've always had enough problems with my height without it limiting my choice of vehicle as well so if anyone has any advice or suggestions I'd be very grateful.
  • Morning Travel Advice -Driving Through Cent.London 2 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The shortest route in miles is straight through central london, up through Victoria, Marble Arch and St Johns Wood to join the A1 (North) past Brent Cross. The only other option is to drive west out of london and join the M25 (and take this up to the North Circular then A1 North)which seems like a long way to go to take a road which is usually very busy and prone to delays... Does anyone know at what time rush hour gets really bad in central London.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 01 3.0 Possible auto box fault 16 Oct 2009 (Forum)
There's something wrong and I think it's probably the gearbox or t.c. Under load it's ok, but when I'm cruising or driving at a constant speed there's a slight judder\hiccup. Just as I come to a stop it judders or slams as it disengages from drive. A bit like a manual car that's stalling when you don't press the clutch.
  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Which automatic, petrol or diesel ? 3 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy a new, or nearly new Ford Mondeo Automatic in the near future and was wondering if any backroomers have experienced driving the 2.3 petrol and the 2.0 diesel automatics and could advise which was the best drive. I only do around 6k miles per annum, so I understand the cost differentials would probably favour a petrol.
  • Suzuki Swift (1985 - 1993) - 91 1.0 - Too much oil...consequences of driving? 29 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Tomorrow I'll drain all the oil and put back some new one. Do you reckon that's enough? I mean, after I change the oil, can I just drive it (if it starts)? Thank you very much guys, I'm pretty freaked out, for I have no money to repair it or buy another one !
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1992 1800 Questions timing belt change Golf AAM 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
On my engine the belt loops round the crankshaft, camshaft, passes the circular tensioner and also drives the auxilliary shaft. I think the auxilliary shaft drives the distributor so its timing is important. Off the cranksaft are some vee belts which drive the power steering pump, alternator and water pump.
  • Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 2003 2.0 Radiator fan 14 Oct 2008 (Forum)
On my Rover 75 diesel CDT the radiator fan seems to operate all the time - even if I just turn on the ignition without starting the engine. I can't hear if it's on all the time when I'm driving but whenever I come to a halt and turn off the ignition the fan is always on and continues for a few seconds. This is irrespective of the ambient temperature and the type/speed of driving I have been doing.
