Preparing bike for French Trip 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
(daren't leave the one on there, which is well legal, cos last time i did that i came back with a Dunlop Kojak, praying it wouldn't rain on the journey) then there was the kit check.......took over half an hour to find the insurance as it was filed elsewhere than somewhere i would have filed it, rang them only to find i didn't need to, was already automatically covered.....AA cost 24 quid for 3 days, which seemed a bit steep, but maybe i'm not keeping up with the times. which just left the leathers...and therein lay the big problem.........increasing girth versus bike leathers bought over 3 years ago......my opinion is they'll do.....when SWMBO stopped laughing, she reluctantly agreed they'd do......but i suspect the prosepct of me splashing out 200 readies for a new set is part of her thought process stressed is not the word........hope i calm down enough to enjoy the trip -
Zafira and faulty petrol 31 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Incidentally, once the car is running warm it does seem to be running not too badly apart from the drinking of petrol and the emissions light on. My car is a 2001 1.8 automatic Zafira with 69k on the clock. Oh, and should anyone have changed the petrol, diluted though it is now. Thanks!!! Julie :-) -
Parking tickets bring a smile... 6 Dec 2006 (Forum)
It really did, because attached to the ticket was a second piece of paper saying you could pay your parking offence by a donation of toys. And automatically that kind of made me feel good," Ramsden said. "I think all of us want to do something good, but we just need a little nudge and for me it was the nudge," he said, adding he immediately went out and bought $55 worth of toys and dropped them off at town hall. -
New golf has arrived - first questions! 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
They don't seem to - do I have to switch them on at the first sign of rain and then leave them to sense how much wiping should be done? Automatic lights - They come on fine when there's a patch of shade or I drive into a carpark, but they seem to take ages to go off again. Is that normal? Haven't driven him in the dark yet so this is the only experience of the lights I have so far. -
Help me choose my dad?s next car... 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
An auto box is not a must-have, but it would certainly be a nice luxury, however many of the cars below are not available with automatic gearboxes. My Dad has been happily driving my sister's manual Punto on many occasions over the last months, after many auto-only years. (My mother's car is a 1995 Xantia auto). His budget is between £6000 and £7000. -

Insurance saga drags on - please help. 1 Feb 2006 (Forum)
4)Finally, is it absolutely water-tight that I am in no way to blame? Is the "pulling onto a main road" rule like the "rear end shunt" rule? ie, automatically to blame and no excuses? I'm sorry this is such a long post. It's a long, shambolic saga! This is all causing so much distress, I feel sick every time a letter comes from my ins.co. I am drowning in it all, and would be very grateful if anyone could offer constructive suggestions. -
Local Dealer vs Internet Shop 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I tried Ford fiesta zetec, Nissan Micra SV, Renault Expression, Skoda Fabia classic. (all 1.4litre automatic) I\'ve ruled out Vauxhall Corsa ( very dull to drive), Daewoo Matiz ( just didn\'t like the look), Hyunadai Getz ( intereror and overall feel is too tinny). I?m 5?3?? female and my bf is 6?2??, and we agreed on most of its contents. lol 1. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 01 1.6 headgasket changed, but still have problems 29 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I'll try and keep this short, but please bear with me, it's a longish story! :) I bought the above car (automatic) in May after my beloved Yaris died. I paid about £1700 for it as it was all I could afford. I think I made a hasty purchase, but small, cheap automatics are like hens teeth, I'm self employed and my daughter is autistic and needs running around to a lot of appointments (plus I live in the sticks) so being without a car was a nightmare. -

I am looking to buy a cheap automatic and have put a small deposit on a Mazda 3. I'm begining to get cold feet though. self-driving cars on motorways - Insurers don't like 23 Oct 2020 (Forum)
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/oct/23/uk-insurers-warn-against-go-ahead-for-self-driving-cars-on-motorways Plans for cars to drive themselves on UK motorways as soon as 2021 are unlikely to go ahead after insurers warned government proposals were risking lives and “hugely wrong”. Cars with the technology to keep in lane, accelerate and brake automatically will be on the road next year, and ministers had proposed that drivers could relinquish control to their vehicles at speeds of up to 70mph on motorways. However, the Association of British Insurers and the independent Thatcham Research institute have warned the use of automated lane keeping systems (ALKS) would be a severe threat to road safety if the systems were legally classed as “automated”, meaning drivers could take their hands off the steering wheel. -
2008 Ford Focus Mk2.5 Titanium 1.8 Duratec Petrol - 08 Ford Focus 1.8 Weird Revs/Idle No Codes But S 4 Sep 2020 (Forum)
If I coast with the car in neutral / clutch down, the revs drop to around 1.2K but hunt between 1.2 and 2K as if someone is blipping the accelerator The car will sometimes automatically rev up to 3K when at a standstill and the only way to stop it is to engage a gear. I like like a right knobhead at traffic lights sometimes! I've noticed the current MPG counter shows 99.9mpg when I have it in say 4th or 5th but aren't giving it any gas. -
Help choosing suv, budget £16k or £300/month 16 May 2018 (Forum)
My dad is currently in the market for a new car, specification as follows: Mid sized suv/estate, his preference being an SUV though. Automatic 4wd, or pseudo 4wd He is considering contract hire and a used purchase. £300/month contract hire with 10k miles/month, 3 year contract and up to 6 months upfront, or £16k used. -
Citroen DS3 - DS3 Xenon Full LED H/L, a Dazzling Fashion Icon ! 19 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Indeed, when driving along country lanes at night it should be possible to build in a sensor that detects the lights from any oncoming car and then automatically switches your head lights from 'full power on main beam' to 'a lower power on dipped beam', as per traditional Halogen headlamp bulbs rated at 60/55 watts. 5) However to actually be proud that your latest DS3 cars will dazzle everybody is HIGHLY IRRESONSIBLE. -
NEVS 9-3 is up for testing! - Saab 27 Feb 2014 (Forum)
First out was the magazine “Vi Bilägare“, one of Sweden’s biggest car-magazine. Their tester Calle Carlquist drove a car with the automatic transmission, and he thinks the driving experience is completely modern and he also think NEVS has succeed with their idea that the car should feel sporty but still be comfortable. So he has a positive first impression and think it’s a good car that don’t feel ready for retirement, but the drawback is that it’s missing some of the latest techology. -
Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Three weeks with a 2.0 TDCi auto 15 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I could adjust volume, but changing channels or the radio band/cd proved impossible. Bluetooth didn't automatically pair the phone every time it found it. Not everything has been moved for RHD - in particular the heated screen and rear window buttons are a long way from the driver. In LHD they would be perfect. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - Diesel versus Mazda 6 Petrol 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I do mostly short urban runs, and I've decided it's going to have to be a diesel. It also has to be an automatic, and most crucially of all, must not cost any more to buy than I can get for my 6, which is in the region of £4.5-5K. It also needs to be at least a Golf sized car, and it has to have ISOFIX and a minimum 4-star NCAP rating. -
Suggestions for a car please 14 Nov 2007 (Forum)
this is why I loved it: great looks, stealthy, and in dark perlescant blue, a real head turner (yes I know this is subjective) gorgeous leather interior well kitted out, CD Changer, AIRCON, electric sunroof (after market fit), Good value, I found an immaculate example with 80K miles on it, R Reg, for under £4K.. lovely responsive automatic Smooth power delivery Fast cruiser as opposed to hard core sports appeal Exclusive, you simply do not see many around - I like that. Friends were stopping and asking me what it was. In original (un modded form) avoids boy racer image But, i wrote it off after 2 weeks, first road accident in 18 years of driving. -
Towing Trailers..... 18 Apr 2002 (Forum)
There was a change on 1 January 1997 to the category of licence issued to a driver on passing the car driving test. Previously, categories B, B+E and C1+E were granted automatically, but Since that date it has become necessary for further tests to be passed. This does not apply to holders of licences issued before 1 January 1997, where "grandfather rights" apply. In other words, the additional categories are not removed. -
Car for a vicar and his family! 5 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Great thinks I, let's have a look at the newer model Picasso, stick to petrol (due to their mileage and short runs) and see what's available. Then my BiL casually mentions that he has heard some cars now have an "automatic handbrake". I spent some time explaining the joys (and perils) of the electric handbrake and he announced he couldn't possibly have a car with one of those. TBH, given his lack of mechanical sympathy and the way he drives, I'm inclined to agree that he just wouldn't get used to it!
