  • Surprisingly cheap cars to run? 18 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Just wondering, as I wouldn't want to dismiss any cars because I assume they are too expensive to run. E.g. nice BMW's, 4x4's etc. Not sure if this makes sense or is a daft question, but thought i'd ask :p Thanks
  • VAG component quality 2 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Of the premium manufacturers, I'm trying to figure out who has the best component quality between BMW, Audi and Mercedes. I'm sure Lexus would be superior but they don't have a car/engine that suits me.
  • Hyundai Getz - car change 19 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I am torn between keeping this car until it dies, buying something sensible such as an i20 or a Fabia or blowing the £5000 I have to spend on something like a ten year old BMW. Your suggestions on something that would be fun but would not lead me to poverty would be much appreciated please.
  • Auto Express driver power 7 May 2014 (Forum)
Perhaps like VW, the halo is starting to slip a bit and I'm not the only one who found their customer service non existent? I'm not sure what manfacturer to try next - I think BMW and Merc are one of the few I haven't tried yet!
  • BMW520 dse Touring - BMW520d - Tyre Noise 10 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I am still on the first set of tyres at the front - but have noticed a "thrumming" noise at speeds over 40 mph which sounds not unlike a wheel bearing on the blink.  BMW have looked at the vehicle twice - but tell me this is an acceptable level of tyre noise as the run-flats wear down. Anyone else noticed this issue?
  • How amusing 16 Jan 2013 (Forum)
We've had some snow where I live, not too much mind, the sensible wheels and Michelin Primacy tyres on the S-Type mean it gets on perfectly fine despite being RWD. However I do enjoy seeing clips on the local news of posh pansies with their low-profile BMW's sliding back down the hill. Serves you right. My pet rabbit could work out that was never going to get up an icy hill.
  • Misfuel prevention in Dragons Den 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
If you have watched Dragons' Den yesterday evening, you must have seen the last guy who came with the invention of a device which can be fitted retrospectively in any diesel cars and will make filling up diesel car with petrol an impossibility. Interesting to know that BMW, Ford & Land Rover have already built in similar feature in their new vehicles. Hopefully, we'll see this on the high street within next few months.
  • Converting l/100km to mpg simply? 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I get there eventually but I tie myself in knots, first converting the litres into gallons, then calculating how many gallons I've used over 62 miles... etc. And is 8.6l/100km a decent figure for a BMW 335D?! TIA.
  • Free Test Drive over the weekend 3 Sep 2009 (Forum)
As you know, roads are usually wider so easier to drive. Here in the uk, I've only had saloons - the biggest was a bmw 5 & now drive a merc c class. So i want to get the feel of the car & ensure it is the right choice- d you think jeep would give me a car for the weekend?
  • Missing number plate 15 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Just back from France and whilst waiting to board the ferry I noticed a German reg BMW with a missing front number plate. Went to speak to the driver and he was mortified, he had not noticed the loss and asked me if it was possible to get a replacement in England. At this point I was struggling a little with language, but managed to point him towards the AA as being most likely to be able to help.
  • WSB Starts this Weekend (March 1st) 4 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hooray! Winter's nearly over... WSB should be very, very good this year with BMW and Aprilia. Good British interests too, and Haga will want so show how good he can be on a Ducati. It will take some time to get used to the new teams and riders, but there are several riders who think they should win this great championship.
  • which car for my new commute? 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I need a car for a new 80 miles per day commute. Looking at a used car but not sure what's best. Was thinking BMW 320D E90. Seems I can one for around £9,000 with about 50k on the clock. I'd trade it in a year later before mils climb too high. Anyone have a view on what's best in terms minimal depreciation, good MPG and a decent ride.
  • Wide boot? 6 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I'm looking for something smallish, or at least not unncessarily huge, but with enough room to take golf clubs width-wise [4.5 feet roughly in old money]. The current Merc Sports Coupe is fine with the back seat down, but then noisy. I'm looking at the BMW 3 series Touring, Volvo S60 or Subaru Forester [I had a Legacy but it's large for mostly town driving]. All are around the same reasonable length. Can anyone suggest others to check?
  • Error codes - why not display directly? 31 May 2007 (Forum)
Instead of pushing consumers to dealers every time a warning light comes up (for fault diagnosys), why can't the cars display error code directly on dashboard?? Is it another way of extracting money from drivers?? I think in BMW X5, dash displayes message like "Check brake light" etc. I think depending on manufacturers, dealers charge from £30 to £100 just to diagnose the error code!!!
  • Do tyres have a maximum life 9 Apr 2007 (Forum)
My 5 series Touring is now nearly six years old, but has done a low mileage. I am following the BMW service plan and obviously the car has been MOT'd and as part of this tyre tread has been checked and signed off. However obviously weathering must impact the life of the tyres. As the car is six years, how much longer should I keep them?
  • Dirty Numberplate scam 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Whilst travelling up to Warrington from Surrey at the weekend, I noticed several cars (mostly BMWs) with very dirty rears, and unreadable numberplates. This is obviously a speed camera scam, but I was amazed that the police didn't stop any of them (the cars must have been in this state for some time) Are cameras able to pick-out the registration number when the plate is in this state, or do the police not care as it's just part of the numbers game?
  • Mazda 6, due for facelift??? 17 Oct 2006 (Forum)
A colleague's company BMW is due for replacement in April, but he has to have decided and ordered by January. He is quite keen on getting a Mazda 6 but he has heard that this model is coming up for a facelift soon and is a little cautious.
