  • Nissan Almera - Nissan Almera 2.2 diesel problems 26 Aug 2010 (Forum)
The temperature had rocketed up too.  Again the only light on the dash is the battery and no odd noises.  The car is in average condition and has done over 117,000miles.  Any suggestions?  Think the AA might be taking me home as I don't fancy driving home in this condition at 2200 tonight!

  • Focus, Transit connect, Mondeo etc - Ford TDci PcM reset 31 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Is there a correct way to reset the PcM on the Ford TDci? I've heard various ideas (after disconnecting the battery for a time to "clear the memory") including "warm the engine on tickover then drive for 10 miles", "drive slowly"  "drive fast" "drive normally" etc etc. So after the battery has been disconnected for a few hours is there a "right" way to do it, or do you just drive the vehicle?
  • Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 01 1.6 Car Alarm 11 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Locking and unlocking the doors on both sides did nothing and neither did starting the engine, which is strange considering the key has the red bit (immobiliser I believe). Eventually I had to remove the battery as i could not get into the car without the alarm going off. Every time i reconnect the battery the alarm sounds for a short while and goes off, that is until I try to open the door again! Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated, Carl
  • Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 98 2.0 Cold Start Issues - diesel 4 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi There, hoping for a little assistance if possible! I have changed the battery on my rover 420 diesel and in the cold leave the ignition in position three for about a minute to try and get some heat into the glowplugs, however, it is taking longer and longer to start, so much so that I killed the battery this morning...!
  • Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.8 ignition switch? 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
When I turn it off and remove the key the ignition lights are still on, cannot get access to the starter motor terminals to short them out to see if the car will start. I have disconnected the battery so not to flatten the battery. I think I may need a new ignition swicth if so how do I change it. Many thanks Boxxy
  • Consumption improved 15%... 22 Sep 2009 (Forum)
?just by getting a flat battery. If you can believe the onboard computer on my Hyundai i30, that is. Using whole numbers, before the flat battery the ?Average fuel consumption? read 40 mpg from new (15,300 miles). Immediately after attention by the RAC, 46 mpg.
  • Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - 05 1.7CDTi Starting after long period of standing 26 May 2009 (Forum)
The car I have in the UK is a 'new' Astra 1.7CDTi. By the time I get back to it, it will have been standing for 6 months. My querie is, if the battery is TOTALLY flat, ie, no response to remote control door opener/alarm disarmer, how do I get into the car to open the bonnet to charge the battery ? I believe the doors are opened electrically (by solenoid) as a result from either pressing the remote or using the key in the door lock.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 2.0 A Weird Question about Water 24 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I have bought a 2nd hand Ford Mondeo 2003 TDCI Diesel 2.0 car and have been driving for 6 months. I have noticed that people tend to pour in water or battery water into their cars. However mine does not seem to have any compartment to pour battery water. I only pour in engine oil when its at low. Thats it. Does my car even use water, Pls advice as Im not good at all with cars.
  • Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.6 immobiliser problem not disarming with key 6 May 2008 (Forum)
The key fob unlocks the doors, but does not disarm the immobiliser Had this problem with 306's and found if you turned ignition on before connecting battery then immobiliser disarmed and everything worked as it should. Is there any quick fix for this one or is it a trip to the dealers.
  • Peugeot 306 1.6 radiator fan always on 14 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Arrived back at car to find battery flat due to radiator fan running all the time. After recharging battery and starting the engine the fan stops, but when the ignition is switched off the fan still runs fast. The fan stops when the ignition is in the on position.
  • Mondeo - remote locking problem again 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
After changing the batteries in the key about 5 weeks ago, the remote locking facility on my '97 Mondeo started working again. My joy has been shortlived, however, as yesterday, the remote locking packed up again; it can't be the battery because the tiny red light on the key flashes.
  • citroen berlingo dash fault 25 Jan 2005 (Forum)
The rev counter gave up a few month ago but now the dash lights up whenever the ignition is off, and the speedo oscillates between 0 and 10 mph, ultimately this drains the battery. I getting a bit fed up with disconnecting and reconnecting the battery whenever I leave the car for more than a few hours, so does anybody have any ideas on this. The main dealer recommended changing the dash pod to cure the faulty rev counter but didn't know if this would cure the electrical fault and all at a cost of £260+ fitting.
  • Brake lights. Peugeot 406 HDi. 2 Jan 2005 (Forum)
The brake lights have stuck in the on position, the only way to turn them off is to disconect the battery, once the battery is reconected however, the lights come on again. Also with the key out of the ignition when i press the brake pedal the dashboard warning lights come on (with the brake lights still on).
  • Poor starting - Mondeo 1.8 lx 14 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Weird thing however is that as car is trying to start the the windscreen wipers move across the screen (even though not turned on) and the central locking seems to be activating. I've been out tonight and the lights are dimming on cranking the engine, but would a failing battery account for the wipers and central locking activating on their own?? As far as I'm aware the car has the original battery (car now 6 years old). All help appreciated.
  • Faulty starter motor on Vauxhall. 27 Jan 2004 (Forum)
We came to start the car and got this awful buzzing from the fuel relay, we got a new one from a scrap yard and came to start it again it turned over and then cut out (not surprising it had been stood for 4 weeks) any way after charging the battery we then came to start it and it was as though the battery was almost flat, despite having boooster cables on it. Could this be a faulty starter motor? Also what is the best way to get a car going after an engine rebuild will it need an initial \"bosst\" of power to get it going as there is no oil in the tappets
  • Terrano a non starter 24 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Yesterday I had to disconnect the battery on my Terrano 2.7TDi (had to remove the battery because I was topping it up and dropped one of the filler caps in an obscure corner). Fired up the engine fairly briefly to make sure all was well.
  • Vectra Alarm 19 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I have checked all the switches and they appear to be okay. Curiously, this only seems to have happened since I took the battery off to charge (See the thread on the Philips CCR600). Then after the battery was put back in, the car started the first time but the next morning it refused to start. Questions: Is the alarm linked to the immobiliser?
