help in choosing next car 3 May 2005 (Forum)
The Lexus always seem to do very well in surveys, but will the ride be too harsh? (Another disadvantage of the Nissan is that I feel every bump in the road!) Also, not too keen on 20,000 mile service intervals - should the oil be changed more often than this? Plus I am concerned the Lexus will be dearer to run. -
Hmmmm 26 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I’ve seen a 66 plate 30kw Mk I Nissan Leaf for sale locally(ish) for £8,200 - before I kick him with my size 9’s. Say I get it for £8,000 tops (I’d be aiming for £7,700) that works out at around £150 a month for a bank loan. Now, currently I spend around £160 a month on fuel for old Terrance the Toyota plus £250 a year to tax him and he’s getting old and probably will need some money spending over the next 4/5yrs. -
Upgrading from a Honda Jazz (new used car advice) 19 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Although it’s possible I may use it for commuting I perfectly happy to stay with Honda, but can adventure to other brands. Cars I looked at are the Nissan Qashqai Peugeot 3000, Hr-v’ cr-v Kia Soul so I’m looking for something with more power, bigger boot, Auto transmission and uses petrol Most models in the Uk can be found in France, there can be some different engine choices though. -
Worst car you’ve ever driven? 16 May 2020 (Forum)
Some cars that were unpleasant did redeem themselves by being cheap or robust or useful off road, Lada Niva springs to mind or they were long lived and reliable - Nissan Bluebird/Volvo 240. 10 Seat Ibiza Mk I (all versions) 9 Fiat Uno Selecta CVT 8 Ford Fiesta Mk II CVT 7 Lada Riva 6 FSO Polonez 5 1990 Ford Escort Mk V 1.4/1.8D/CVT 4 Suzuki Vitara 1.6 JLX 3 Volvo 340 CVT 2 Daihatsu Fourtrak 2.8 DL 1 Suzuki SJ410 What cars have you driven that made you want to get out at the first bus stop and leave the thing behind? -
Always ask 4 May 2020 (Forum)
Just found out that a lass I sold a lovely 55 plated Nissan Micra 1.2 SE to a few years back has scrapped it and is in need of a replacement. I asked why the car was binned and was told that it refused to turnover so they replaced the battery and it still refused to turn, her “mechanic“ took a quick look and condemned the wee car. -
SUV or MPV - Cheap car/van, SUV or MPV 17 May 2019 (Forum)
So do I keep looking at MPVs, or should I also look at SUVs? And if so what of each category?? A mate advised me on old Honda HRV 3 door, or Nissan X-trail for SUV. And Ford Galaxy or S-Max for MPV. Any others I should look at? What’s reliable etc? My budget is small at £2k - £3k Many thanks Matt -
Worst car you have ever owned or driven? 3 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Whats the worst car you've ever had the misfortune to drive? For me it was a then brand new '12 plate Nissan Qashqai 1.6 manual. I had to drive it up and down the country for a few weeks. I found it utterly gutless, steering far too sensitive (maybe i'm too used to Land Rovers but a quick look at the sat nav and i'm approaching the hard shoulder!). -
Ford Mondeo - Head or heart!? Help choose the car! 6 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Backroomers! Help as always much appreciated ... I'm wanting to get rid of my Nissan Almere Tino on 90,000+ miles now 54 plate, want something a bit newer and some bells and whistles... I've seen a mondeo 09 plate 2.3 titanium X with all the toys and only 25k on the clock from a ford dealer near brum. -
New car for Mrs Happy Blue? 24 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Mrs Happy Blue drives a Nissan Juke 1.6CVT Tekna. It has done its job perfectly since it arrived in March 2013, but the lease comes to an end in February 2016. She does no more than 7,000 miles pa. Our only gripe with the car is the boot, which has a high loading lip and is really quite small unless you remove the boot floor, revealing a cavernous well beneath, but which is no good for the dog. -
Sad Day - RTI 16 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Until the second police car arrived I directed traffic, so it didn't go beyond the crossroads, just before the bend that hid the accident. All apart from two cars took notice of me. One woman in a Nissan 350Z carried on until she reached the accident. The male passenger in a Fabia estate seemed agitated I'd stopped people to enable them to take a very small detour to get round the accident. I told him they should continue straight on if they wanted to be obstructed by an accident blocking the road. -
Honda FR-V 1.8 iVTEC Auto - Winter Tyres - User report 19 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hugely impressed. As was the wife, who up until now felt that we would miss the ability of our old Nissan X-Trail in adverse weather. However, these tyres have proved that not to be the case. -

I have an idea 12 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Better than that, why not combine with electronic throttle mapping so i can have a nice fast sports car, with say 300+ BHP, but when may daughter gets in, touches the keypad, BHP is limited to 90 or so, and the throttle response matched to a Nissan Micra. What a cool idea? So much can be done with ECUs, "sports" mode can liven up throttle response, can tighten up springs/dampers, can alter gear change profile on auto boxes, so why not "17 year old daughter mode". -

FIAT Coupe (1995 - 2000) - Sensible or stupid???? 11 May 2009 (Forum)
Can't think of any other car which is cheapish and which is actually fun to drive. Not that keen on fwd, would prefer rwd but cheap rwd fun isn't cheap! Wouldn't have a bmw and nissan 200sxs are too expensive. If anyone else can think of something fun under a grand that won't cost the earth to look after then feel free! Looked at 2cvs but they're too pricey. Generally not keen on french cars. -
Crack in the gearbox. 23 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Our man got 9 years and was told to pay £320.000 or do another 3....result. Some years ago I was well turned over by the customs at Poole, Me, wife, 3 kids, 8,15 and 17, Nissan Patrol and Caravan. They took the kids to a private room to search them, I told them not without a Justice's order and they didn't. I had nothing naughty, they even took the air filter cover off. -
What Used Car for £16k? 27 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Key criteria are (a) reliable (b) good performance and handling (c) a bit 'special' (d) small enough to go in my small garage (d) not a convertible (e) a good local dealer ( I live in Sheffield). I currently have a 1999 Mazda 323. The shortlist so far: Nissan 350z - though hard to find one for this price, and likely to be too big for garage. Mazda RX8 - seem to be a lot around, but would need to find one that has had the required tlc (ie, not used for short journeys). -
Reading news or likely to make it. 11 Jan 2008 (Forum)
There you were, pitch black sky, light mist doing about 80mph in the outside lane, nothing wrong with that except for all the interior lights on and your newspaper fully spread over the steering wheel, whilst you caught up with current events. Printable words fail me, and i would imagine the driver of the nissan navara (i think) behind you waiting for you to pull over having nothing in the middle lane was amused and possibly in awe of your expertise in being able to control this vehicle and possibly do the crossword and maybe on a good day bake a cake simultaneously. -

And feel free to suggest alternatives, although SWMBO, who will be driving it most, does have some irrational absolute no-nos including Skodas and Nissans; sorry. s John
