Need to change the oil in my VW PAssat TDI. Can i jack up the car, undo the sump, lower the car and let it drain. Jack-up again, re-fit the sump, lower and then re-fill. My way around not having axel stands or ramp! Practical? Also, what about Shell Optimax vs Gastrol. What do B-roomers put

service intervals modern cars are subjected to. They suggested a long engine flush, oil change and a dose of Top End Treatment (TET). This TET is formulated to quieten noisy (gummed up) hydraulic lifters and I have found it to be very effective. The flush and oil change helped but the problem was still

  • Scenic II Oil change 30 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I have a Scenic II, 1.9dci engine with 18,000 mile services. Now my technical knowledge could be written on the back of a grain
  • VW Golf oil question & coolant question 17 Oct 2001 (Forum)
You may remember that I had the oil cooler break on my MkII Golf GTI recently. As far as I could tell all previous oil in the car had

the dealer who services it uses 10w-40 (no idea why, he's also a Ford dealer so you'd think he'd have supplies of the thinner oil!). Do other BR's think that I'd improve things if I changed to the thinner oil or would the difference be negligible? Thanks & Regards
